Subtle yet still powerful, this is how the tea should taste. faint spice with a honey coating, really coats your tongue.

Not the best, but good enough that I am happy for once. :)

I’m not a big white tea fan. It can be a little too shy for my taste. This one though is fresh enough to deliver a good texture and taste.

Think I’m just starting to have one of those days. I want to like this tea, because I really need that salty chestnut taste. Its just not there. I can smell some complexity, but when I try and taste it, its not there. Which leads me to think that I am not brewing it right. I’ve got another packet so hopefully that is the case, and I will be writing a new review a couple days from now.

What I do taste is buttered spinach/bok choy. Thats it. I get some salty astringency…but so far this tea is not on my re-order list.

I have a feeling that I am being unfairly critical of this Dragonwell because I just had an amazing one earlier this month. I also found a rather large twig/stem in this (1 inch long). So what if I am being critical though, I’ve tasted a good Dragonwell, and now my taste buds are the wiser.

Okay Teavivre, I’ll admit, I was a skeptic at how much raving there was. But this deserves the hype. Its not a perfect tea, but it is darn good. Would I order again….I’m on the fence post. I love trying new teas. But this would be a good safety to keep in the cupboard.

As my tea brews I smell the notes of sweet potatoes that everyone comments on. To me they remind me of the sweet potato fries that are sometime coated with cinnamon. I also get some fermenting/oxidized apples. Like a red delicious that you ate half of in the morning, and then finished later that day. (after it had turned brown).

Taste is a little soft. I get a nice full bodied mouth feel, with a nice sweetness. But its subtle. Not as prevalent as I am expecting. This is a good afternoon tea.

I guess what I was a little disappointed in was the color. The tea immediately started brewing and turned such a dark color that I pulled out the leaves after 45 seconds. I’m not used to that in this type of tea. Another worrying sign was that the tea actually frothed. I’m not tasting any impurities in this brew, but I never equate a tea “frothing” just from the act of being placed in the water. The last comment about the brew is that there is a faint oil floating on the top. I’ve got another packet to go through, so maybe I will revise my ranking. I would also revise the price to be a little lower…but I can understand the enjoyment of this tea.

**edit 1 hour later…
Well, subsequent brewing have been more than lack luster. The oil flavor has increased and I am now having to soak my tea cup to try and get it off. I have one more packet of this tea to use…so hopefully next time I will brew it better? Dunno. I was so enthusiastic reading what other people thought of this tea, and now that I think about it, I’m not getting it. Maybe I’m just going off Yunnan black teas.

Beautiful aroma to this tea. Fresh sea breeze and seaweed. Produces an infusion that is almost iridescent.

Zest is also a good description, however the taste has not really been as complex as the aroma suggests. I am going to do several more infusions, and also a cold infusion and see what I get…

This is a good Sencha. Not really worth the price though.

A decent Earl Grey, not the best I have ever had, but good. There is a faint lemon taste, and an oil residue left on my tea cup…which does suggest a lower quality and grade.

A unique tea…that is interesting…not really as great as it should be though.

buttered pecans, bok choy, maybe some peach. I really don’t get the rocket/arugula at all. Its a good tea, not quite what I was expecting or hoping. Leaves are quite pale yellow, in some cases white.

Price needs to come down considerably. If this tea was priced appropriately I would rank it around an 85/87

This is a great tea. I was a bit hesitant about the long brewing time, but it does take a while for the leaves to fully unfurl, so it is justified.

Lovely spring asparagus with a soft butter taste. Faint green pepper/floral note…maybe magnolia?, and a great umami flavor. This is a great tea…just probably not worth the price…25.00 bucks for less than 2 ounces….

If the price was matched more appropriately, I would bump my ranking up even higher.

drank Lipton Black Tea by Lipton

I’m forcing myself to finish off a box of this stuff that got bought during Christmas. It is alright in small doses, but if I had to drink this tea everyday…I would probably stop drinking tea.

No complex taste or aroma. Not much flavor at all.

:( I’ve just overbrewed this one and now my mouth tastes like I have cotton/wool for a tongue.

sherapop

I’d recommend holding it for summertime, brewing up one big final pitcher, and masking it with a huge dose of lemon juice! ;-)

SFTGFOP

haha good idea. I gave myself an ultimatum though that I wouldn’t drink any more exciting teas until it is gone. Luckily it was only a box of 48, and think i’m half way through…

gmathis

Plain old Lipton loose leaf isn’t bad…better than their bags.

SFTGFOP

Don’t think I’ve tried the regular loose leaf. Is it orthodox or still CTC?

gmathis

Not sure…I’d suspect CTC. It’s been a while since I’ve had it, but I do remember thinking what a noticeable difference there was.

Describing it as a first flush darjeeling is a very accurate way to go. I got that green bell pepper taste, but lacking in the muscatel aroma that I have come to enjoy from Darjeelings.

I liked their description of walnuts…which maybe I can taste…or maybe not. I wouldn’t have thought of it until I read over their tasting notes.

Not their best tea, but certainly a tea worth trying.

blah blah blah, come on people, not every tea can be ranked 80+. Rant, rave; but honestly not every tea you drink can be ranked the same, otherwise you defeat the point of giving the grade!

So as other people have broken down their ranking systems, I am doing the same.

I’ve also decided to update my reviewing system. I’m going to be ranking across a 3 system scale on: taste, accurate representation, and price.

Taste = 0-100 (see old ranking)
Accurate Representation = 75 being average (how true it is to its style of production. So a Darjeeling that tastes like an Assam would rank lower)
Price = Percent difference of what I think the tea is worth

-————————————————————————

Old Ranking
90-100 = I’m quite happy to buy again
70-89 = Acceptable representation
50-69 = Wouldn’t order again
20-49 = Meh
10-19 = Average tea bag ranking
0-9 = Needed to brush my teeth immediately
