drank Cinnamon Somersault by T2

Ok. It breaks my heart to do this, but I have to adjust my rating for (and my obsession with) Cinnamon Somersault based on the rejigged formula for 2014.

It’s just… not what it used to be.

It’s not worse (well—I guess based on my ratings I think it is, but still, it’s not BAD) but it’s different. The orange is gone from the mention, and replaced by nondescript “flavours” and what I’d even call a bit of a spicy kick to the palate.

It’s still interesting but it’s not the tisane I fell in love with. But that’s good, because it means I’m able to continue weaning off T2.

One blend at a time.

That’s how I got off Teavana, one tea at a time. If they ever brought back two of my discontinued favorites, I might have to consider a momentary relapse tho. Always a bummer to have a favorite changed or taken away.

I didn’t mind being addicted to T2 when it was a lovely grassroots independent Aussie company! Now it’s owned by a Big Bad, I’m far less inclined.

Dustin

Did they sell/get bought out? Are there many options for Aussie grown teas?

Memily

Yes, they’re now a part of Unilever :( there are a whole bunch of lovely local Aussie options but my task is uncovering them at the moment! T2’s definitely the most prolific. I’m having fun with Monstrositea’s tea subscription as it’s doing a lot of the uncovering for me, which is nice :)

Drinking the last of this Monstrositea sample from the July box. It’s a nice light and twiggy black.

Dustin

If I ever started a tea company, I think that is what I’d call it… Monstrositea!

Memily

Isn’t it just the best name?

Took an overnight cold brew of this to work today and went slightly crazy for it. Dang. This is a keeper. I hate it when limited editions are keepers.

Busted out my first tea from my swap with VariaTEA tonight, hooray! She’s been hard at work; I’m seeing a lot of mentions of her on my feed lately :D

I needed something cosy, cheery and caffeine-free tonight, after a terrible night’s sleep last night. I’m a little anxious about tonight! I ended up calling in sick this morning, my sleep was so shot. Anyways, I threw my whole sample of this into a mug and I’ve also eaten a whole block of chocolate. Now I’m gonna take some sleeping tablets and make it to work tomorrow just fine!

VariaTEA

I hope you feel better soon!

I just drank my last mug of this delicious jerk and it’s going straight back out of the cupboard and onto the wishlist again.

Sigh.

Grounded let me know that they’d recently emboldened their Bold Breakfast, so I had to give it another try…

And it’s definitely a much Bolder breakfast these days! Yum. This is full of guts, even with a heaped tsp of leaves in a mug around 12oz big. Both black and with a splash of milk, I’m a fan, and a couple of cups of this really helped with the wake-up process this morning.

Great job, Grounded!

Translating my ratings, at a glance:

100 — CRITICAL OBSESSION LEVEL REACHED; CAN YOU MARRY TEA!?
95 — this must always be in my pantry. forever.
90 — excellent! you need to try this tea!
85 — very good! you should try this tea!
80-70 — I enjoyed this and will happily drink it again.
65-50 — Fine. Unremarkable.
45-35 — this wasn’t the worst drink ever but I was disappointed; it didn’t live up to my expectations at all.
30-0 — I didn’t enjoy this tea and that makes me sad.

MY TEASTORY:

Grandad got me started young, white (a LOT of white) Irish breakfast with two.

I never strayed far from that until the world of T2 Tea came to Brisbane some years ago, and now I don’t know what I’d do without a pantry full of tea options.

These days I prefer to drink my teas straight without sweetener (though I appreciate some black variations shine better with milk and/or a dash of honey/sugar). I also love a speedy iced tea (hot brewed then poured over ice), and my latest obsession is cold brewing (which doesn’t make a lot of sense, as Australia is headed into winter and I live in the coldest corner of the country, but oh well).

I’d love to make a bunch of tea friends on here, especially those who can talk Aussie teas with me. I’ve recently come back from a jaunt to North America and it was a real hoot to hit up DAVIDsTEA after reading so many reviews! I wish I’d had the chance to get to more stores… but I’m happy with what I got back past customs. See those teas and my local jams in my reviews.

I LOVE:
+ black teas
+ white teas
+ oolongs
+ flavoured versions of all three of the above
+ herbal infusions and fruit tisanes

NOT A FAN:
+ most green teas
+ LICORICE ROOT (my sworn enemy) and aniseed flavours
