180 Tasting Notes
Dry, this smells wonderful. Like loads of fresh blueberries sprinkled with sugar.
Steeped, the color of this tea is admittedly terrible looking; it’s a greenish black liquor. That said, it’s very similar to color of a freshly squeezed blueberry – not that pretty purpley-blue color that you get when you blend them into a smoothie with white yogurt, but that greenish-blue shade you’ll get if you’ve ever tried to blend blueberries with water. It’s not pretty. But I digress.
Back to the tea, the strong blueberry aroma is still present after steeping. While it tastes a bit more mild than it smells, you can still detect blueberry flavors. I think the name of this tea is perfect – it tastes more like blueberry preserves than it does fresh blueberries. It’s sweet and fruity and the black tea adds quite a bit of depth to it. The perfect cup for breakfast.
This is amazing. Tastes like cake batter and frosting. Not “real” frosting, though, more like grocery store frosting. Funfetti, specifically, and it’s just as comforting.
The cakey flavor is very similar to DavidsTea Red Velvet Cake – more like batter than the final, baked product.
Preparation
Received a little sample packet of this with my last order. And I’m glad I did! The dry leaf smell is amazing: toasted coconut and… butter? Yes, definitely picking up on a buttery scent – a little bit like popcorn.
Steeped, the smell is just as heavenly, only now that toasted coconut seems to just be fresh coconut. Mmmm, this reminds me of suntan lotion and the beach and warm sunny days; so good!
Taste is wonderfully smooth and buttery with a little sweet, tropical note from the coconut. The oolong presents as mildly vegetal, but in a way that works surprisingly well with the coconut. More of buttery, toasty vegetal than a “I just steamed up some spinach in this water” taste. Very well done.
This just may go on the shopping list!
ETA: Everyone was right; the second steep is amazing.
Preparation
I really enjoy this blend and the fun illustration on the packaging! It’s light, yet substantial at the same time and the lemon adds a little bit of a tart punch to the smooth cream background. It is like River Song, after all!
Steeping & serving notes: When I tried this one plain, I wasn’t super impressed – it just screamed “lemon & bergamot!” at my taste buds. But it smelled so wonderfully, I knew it had promise. I played around a bit with steeping (I only leave it in there for a couple minutes, now) and added a splash of almond milk and one piece of rock sugar… and it’s great! It enhances the creaminess and cuts down on that super strong bergamot taste (to which I tend to be sensitive).
Preparation
This is very similar to Lemon Chiffon, but just a tiny bit more tart (from the lime, I assume.) The blend is pretty much exactly as described: you can taste the lemon, the lime, and the cream. It’s very, very good, but I think I like the Chiffon just a little bit more, as it tasted sweeter to me.
Preparation
Was out of the office yesterday and have spent all morning trying to catch-up on all the work I missed. So, it’s been a little crazy. In my craziness, I overleafed the first cup of this. So I tried a second infusion using more water than the first, and now I think I underleafed. It’s still pretty tasty, but the black tea flavor was a bit too overpowering. I’ll try it again later and see if I can get it right!
I ordered this mostly so I could try mixing it with other teas. But I wanted to try a cup of it straight up first in order to get a feel for the flavor.
Appearance: Thick red liquor that smells like sour cherries.
Taste: What else can I say about this other than… it tastes like dried cherries. I mean, I know that’s exactly what it is, but it really, really tastes like it. It’s sweet and a little tart. A bit too potent for me as is, but I think it’ll be wonderful with both rich black teas and green oolongs. Excited to go all ‘mad scientist’ with this one!
Preparation
Okay, I’m not going to lie… I just bought this one purely because I’m a huge Doctor Who fan. And the artwork is great.
This smells divine! I know it’s supposed to be blackberry, but it smells like blueberry! Like blueberries and vanilla and black tea. I just opened the package, took a big sniff and told my coworker (I have all my tea packages sent to the office) that I wish I could have a shampoo that smelled this good. She, who hates tea, agreed that it would make an awesome potpourri.
But it’s not for smelling, it’s for drinking, gosh darn it! So I steeped up a cup. I wish the berry taste was as strong as the smell. Honestly, all I can really taste is Earl Grey. I was able to tease the berry out a bit by adding some rock sugar, but the strongest flavor is still Earl Grey. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I wish the other flavors would stand out more.
I’ll have to experiment more with doctoring it up at home.
Preparation
I had a similar problem with this blend – overpoweringly Earl Grey-ish when drinking in comparison to the yummy berry-vanilla scent in the dry blend.
And it looks as pretty as it smells, it should be potpourri!
As horrible as it sounds to put milk in this, I plan to try a London Fog using TARDIS instead of plain Earl Grey. That might help.
