292 Tasting Notes
So, I have a bizarre smell association with this tea. It reminds me of a My Little Pony I had as a kid. I had over 300 ponies, and some of them were scented. Weird, yes. But that’s what this tea smells like – a delicious My Little Pony.
Anyway, it tastes like a creamy apple cider. No medicinal rooibos flavor, just delicious cinnamon-y apple. I really enjoyed this, but it just tastes like it would be better in the fall.
Thanks for sharing, Courtney!
Preparation
I’ve been watching Harry Potter tonight and I had just enough left for one more cup of this… so I thought some pumpkin juice with Philopher’s Stone would be an excellent combination.
Sadly, I was wrong.
This tea just really doesn’t do it for me. I think I was spoiled by my first pumpkin tea ever being Butiki’s Pumpkin Creme Brulee, because I was let down by both this one and DavidsTea’s Pumpkin Chai.
I can see why this is so popular, though. It’s got a great pumpkin pie flavor, and the spice is perfect. It’s just not for me.
Preparation
This smelled so fruity and delicious that of all the sample packets that came from Harney & Sons, this is the one I wanted to try first. (Other than Boston, but I couldn’t NOT drink that one yesterday.)
Steeped, it still has that very tart, juicy smell, but underneath it you can smell a nutty kind of oolong scent. It tastes just like it smells – mostly like delicious pomegranate, but supported very well by a tasty base oolong.
The leaves expanded like crazy, too. With only 1 tsp of tea in my infuser, after three steeps it was exploding out all over the place. Fun!
EDIT: I should probably specify that I had the loose leaf version of this tea. So. I did.
Preparation
Guayusa this morning! I mixed it with spearmint and peppermint because I was in the mood for something earthy yet refreshing. It was quite perfect, and I enjoyed two delicious steeps before I headed in to the office for a bit. No tea at work today, since I had no idea how long I would be there and I knew I’d have to get groceries on my way home. Ugh.
Anyway, this is a lovely combination, and guayusa is just always absolutely delicious.
Preparation
How could I not drink Boston today? It’s the first new tea I’m trying from the Harney & Sons order, and even though it’s a black, I’m drinking it at 8pm. Oh well. Respect.
Dry, it smells exactly like cranberry juice. Yum. Cranberry juice is my favorite.
It also tastes very cranberry-y, but a little less tart and in your face. I suppose the almond comes through a bit more, with a light nuttiness to balance out the tart berry. It’s a very cozy blend, I can imagine it would be fantastic for when the weather just starts to get cool and you have to pull the sweaters out of the closet. Of course, it’s still delicious no matter what time of year, I am certainly enjoying my cup (and now, my second steep).
I’m excited to try the rest of my Harney & Sons samples, but kind of hoping that they all let me down. I love these teas so far, but dang, they are a pain to order from.
Preparation
I think I pretty much made the exact same order you did from Harney. I also lament their shipping fees and times. But what to do…I’m addicted.
Finally, our order from Harney & Sons got here. After three weeks of waiting. Seems like a long time when they charge so much for shipping, but they apparently don’t even ship out international orders until a week or so after the order is placed. Whatever. Lame.
Luckily, I ordered a 4oz tin of this tea. It’s delicious. I had a small sample with only one cup, and based on that one cup (and multiple infusions) I decided to order a lot more. It’s a really nice blend of grassy, vegetal green tea, toasty sesame seeds, and a hint of caramel-like sweetness. It’s lovely, but makes me a little bit sleepy… so it wasn’t the best choice to drink while trying to get some work done this afternoon, but it was awfully good.
Preparation
Sounds like a plan…we can make a mini swap, though maybe in a couple of weeks so I can sip down some of the teas Terri just sent me. I’d love that :)
Yum, this is so what I needed tonight.
I’ve been looking forward to drinking genmaicha all day. I like it best as an evening tea, it’s so warm and cozy and relaxing. I debated just having regular genmaicha, but I have very little of it left, and… I quite enjoy this blend. So it won.
I dumped my leaves into a jar to cold-brew them, as I only had time for two infusions and it seems a shame to waste them. I’m curious about how that will turn out.
Good night. I need to sleep off this sore throat.
Preparation
I’m pretty sure this one is my favorite of the Della Terra citrus rooibos selection. Tart and creamy and so, so good. How they manage to hide that awful medicinal flavor, I can’t imagine, but they do it well.
I read that rooibos teas are good for seasonal allergies, and since it feels like someone sandpapered my throat, I thought I’d up my rooibos consumption. Going to take this one out with me to an improv show in a few minutes.
I hope to be home soon after to drink more tea. It’s the only thing that feels good right now.
Preparation
I am convinced that there is “bad rooibos” and “good rooibos”, because there’s no way that the medicinal flavour can be hidden in some of these teas.
You might be right. It’s so weird how certain teas don’t have it at all, and others are practically undrinkable.
I like this one quite a lot.
So many teas that have chocolate in them are too sweet, like milk-chocolate creamy sweet. This one tastes more like dark chocolate, and while it’s a lovely sweet dessert-y tea, it’s much more palatable for me.
Also, I just really love coconut. I think I’d drink any coconut tea, ever.
Preparation
I haven’t had this tea in a while, so I had a few cups this afternoon. Yum. It’s very good, I should drink it more often. SO MANY TEAS.
Anyway, I love the maple-y taste combined with the berries. It gives this tea a little more depth than lots of other fruity teas. Delightful.
I’ve found that some teas also smell like scented plastic toys I had when I was younger! Glad I’m not the only one!
Hah, thank you! I was feeling like a weirdo.
