Finished a sample of this last weekend. Excellent sheng! The intense honey-florals that gave me a headache previously have faded. The taste is still very rich though less so than when I first tried it 5 years ago. It’s like vanilla pudding with cardamom and apricot preserves. Viscous-colloidal and sweet, light bitterness, butterscotch, mineral depth, a hint earthy with tobacco, a little astringent after swallow but mouth is coated with tea oil and flavor. Cool aftertaste morphs between pine, vanilla pudding, tobacco, beeswax, pollen. The hot leaf is a treat with baked peaches, cinnamon and cardamom. Relaxing.
Edit: This cake is almost twice the $/g than what it was 5 years ago. Now it’s $0.93/g. I’ve paid that much for other sheng but it’s still a shock.
Flavors: Apricot, Astringent, Beeswax, Bubblegum, Butterscotch, Cardamom, Chicory, Cinnamon, Cooling, Custard, Dark Chocolate, Earthy, Grain, Hay, Honey, Incense, Jam, Marzipan, Mineral, Peach, Pine, Pollen, Rich, Stewed Fruits, Sweet, Tobacco, Vanilla, Viscous, White Chocolate
I just want to eat the vanilla pudding of which you speak ;)
