The Republic of Tea

This is my go to Jasmine tea. Nothing too special about it. It tastes like Jasmine but nothing extravagant. It’s my cheap-and-want-to-chug-jasmine-tea-now kind of tea. I double steep my tea BUT I mix it. I put it all in a 20 oz insulated water bottle so I can sip it hot/warm within an hour or two. I always double steep my tea but mix it all together and that is what I did here.

Your standard milk oolong. There is definitely a creamy, buttery flavor to this one. Solid steeps. I used quite a number of leaves that filled the infuser basket but the flavor was never astringent or bitter. Oolong fans… don’t miss this one in the teabox!

Here’s Hoping Teabox – Round Six – Tea #13
I used two of these teabags, but somehow the flavors that were supposed to be here were still pretty weak. I would have no idea what the flavor even was. The green tea wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t the best. I don’t think any spices could really shine in a green tea anyway. I love how the description says “rich plum”… I don’t think there was any plum here. I was going to try some of the Perennial Plum but upon looking at the blend, it looks like the Della Terra plum blend, which I have a ton of… so I’ll leave that one for others to try!

Love this tea. The coconut takes a back seat to the bright hibiscus, but thanks to the coconut this tea is creamy rather than astringent (as is a common issue I find with tropical teas). Great hot or iced—it’s refreshing and a treat for any occasion. I usually brew a cup when I’m missing the sand between my toes and the calming sound of the ocean waves. I’d go as far as to say that this is like Hawaii in a cup.

I had such high hopes for this tea, but sadly I was disappointed. The description caught my attention—maybe it was the delectable description or it was the fact that I had just stopped eating sugar, but I had to buy it.
Followed the instructions for steeping and was rewarded with a delicious aroma. Upon first sip discovered that the tea tasted nothing like the rich, chocolate aroma. It made for a rather weak cup of tea. Try the Double Chocolate Rooibos if you’re looking for a rich chocolate taste.

Here’s Hoping Teabox – Round Six – Tea #3
I love the name for this one! This one is a Republic of Tea I am a fan of. It is what it is! Roasted yerba mate with hints of chocolate and nuttiness. I wouldn’t mind more cocoa and nuttiness. I was still a bit tired though, so maybe there isn’t much caffeine here. Just a solid cup of yerba mate!

Oh, look, one more person who got this as a sample! I can definitely taste cinnamon and vanilla, along with that woody background of red rooibos. It’s nice enough, I’m just not really a red rooibos fan. But the balance of the cinnamon and vanilla was nice, so if you like red rooibos, this one is nice.

I bought this as an inexpensive way to have tea at school. I also love blackberries, and particularly love them combined with herbals. I wish I had a candle of this. I had a blackberry basil one once upon a time and it was amazing. I am surprised at how fragrant this is. While it might not be the best in the world, it is very tasty, and I will likely repurchase.

There didn’t seem to be too much tea in each teabag so I used three for a 16oz mug. I am drinking this now solely because of my insomnia. I try to stop real tea by about noon if possible. This one is not bad and not great, somewhere in the middle. I can taste the peach and the ginger seems to be in the background.

I brewed three teabags in 16oz of 200 degree water for 3 minutes.

Ok ok, I gave this another shot and it turns out I was doing it completely wrong the first time. The first few times, I had it with just sugar and it as giving me a bitter taste.

I gave a few tea bags t my friend who said she looooved it with milk and sugar. SO. I gave it another shot, this time with milk and sugar. Game changer. Now it tastes much creamier and sweeter. I just needed the milk to cancel out the bitterness I was tasting. I only wonder why I didn’t think of that myself.

I feel like my experience with this tea is way different that everyone else’s here. I don’t taste any cherry and it leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I wanted a Downton tea for so long because I love the show! But this one disappointed me. All I taste is bitter. :’(

I don’t drink many bagged teas anymore but The Republic of Tea’s products were among my favorites when I did. Two aspects of this tea enticed me to try it:

1. It was a free sample that came in the mail
2. I enjoy drinking Christmas teas during the festive season

When I opened the sturdy envelope to expose The Republic of Tea’s signature tea “disc,” an inviting spicy cinnamon aroma spewed out. I steeped the disc for five minutes at 212 degrees. The color was a light gold/orange. The aroma was…like…Christmas!

The brewed liquor had a sweet and spicy flavor that was reminiscent of hot apple cider at Christmas time. I could taste the cloves underneath the dominant flavors but this taste was positioned perfectly without bullying the other great attributes. The overall flavors of this bagged blend were surprisingly robust and quite smooth. The after taste was gentle and delicate. I didn’t detect even a trace of astringency.

This delicious tea really did spread Christmas cheer on my morning. If you find yourself without your loose leaf infuser during the holiday season, this bagged selection just might bring you some comfort and joy.

Visually tasty, with large, jade green sencha leaves with a good amount of toasted rice.

Yummy, well-balanced genmaicha flavor, lots of rice. Hits the spot.

Bought this based on ratings on several sites. Extremely week bergamont flavor. Black tea is weak as well. I don’t recommend.

Another disappointing catalog sample from Republic of Tea. This one smells lovely, like mulled apple cider! But the flavor is weak and watery licorice with the barest hint of cinnamon.

A free sample! Oooh, but its been a while since I had one of those. Its exciting, in a way.
Or, it would be, if I wasn’t so disappointed.
I don’t see anything theoretically wrong with this tea or its flavors, but its just so weak in my cup. It reminds me very strongly of their apple cider tea, which is also weak sauce.
Ah well, at least it was just a sample. Sipdown!

Wonderful scent of honey with a light green tea flavor. There’s another flavor in there I’m assuming is the ginseng but I don’t know it as well. Relaxing tea; great for a cold day!

As other reviewers have noted, very weak. I feel like I brewed it correctly because the color was dark brown. But lacked any kind of depth.

Cinnamon is very dominant in the blend. It smells a lot like the bags of cinnamon pinecones that grocery stores start putting outside the door this time of year. I do get some cardamom and peppercorn as well, but it’s mostly cinnamon. Reminds me strongly of mulling spices. Maybe mix this one with 1 part tea to 8 parts brandy.

Yay, the seasonal Republic of Tea freebie! And this is a controversial one here on Steepster, I see.

Dry, this tea is very aromatic. The cinnamon and clove are very powerful. While these translate well into the steeped tea, they sort of blend with the apple flavor. The licorice isn’t so much in the taste as it’s there leaving that tingling feeling. The black tea base isn’t very distinct. I guess it’s a little bitter.

I don’t get why some people dislike this so much. Sure, I could do without the licorice, but otherwise this is just like Constant Comment, but with apple instead of orange.
