drank Kashmir Chai by Pekoe Tea Lounge

Still one of my favorite chai teas, likely because of the green tea base, and well, the spices kinda rock. It’s not as good as say, the Kashmire Chai in Edmonton (that you can only buy there), or even Chandernagor (MF), but it’s still my go-to. I’m a touch surprised I have any left.

Flavors: Cardamom

Preparation
185 °F / 85 °C 4 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Where in Edmonton do you get the exclusive Chai that you mention?

Oh, yes…. as a lover of all things puerh and ginger, this tea hits the spot. Nothing life-changing, just a solid tea that makes my tummy happy and my soul soar.

Flavors: Earth, Ginger

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Really pushing it with this tea, having it twice within a few days of one another. I’m on a massive purge – mostly energetic, a good part physical, and definitely emotional as well – and this tea helps. Plus, it doesn’t make me sick. Or, if it does, I’m embracing it now, and allowing my body to let go of whatever it needs to, using this tea as a method to do so.

As with last time, I notice the mouthfeel of this tea – it’s buttery, almost (not quite) oily. Really odd, really fun, really interesting.

Flavors: Butter

Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

drank Toasty Almond by Tealish

I have it on good authority that this is the source for, um, another tea with the exact same ingredients over at DAVIDs. Shh. It’s still yummy, and I still love it.

Found this at Chapters of all places, and immediately grabbed it. Tealish has been hit or miss for me – I loved Lemon Meringue so much, I grabbed almost a pound of it, but their macaron fell flat – so this was a risky choice. Well, for a few bucks.

I saw the ingredient list and say – hey, wait a minute. I know another tea with exactly the same stuffola. So I ask… and yes… same tea. Shh. Really.

What about the tea? It’s amazing oversteeped/overnight/cold brewed, and reminds me of a cinnamon bun every time I have it hot. Ultimate indulgence.

Flavors: Almond, Cinnamon, Sweet, Toasty

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

drank Eugene Breakfast by J-TEA

Uh, so… oversteeped, this is still drinkable. (For 20 minutes…) It’ll never be my all-time favorite due to the smoky notes, but it’s a decent pick-me-up and really robust, flavorful, almost coffee-like (zero coffee, I assure you) and thick.

Buh-bye Eugene, it was nice to have you around a wee bit.

So, my body and I (up until now!) have had a love-hate relationship with oolong tea. I don’t know why, no one has really ever explained it to me, I just know that if I drink oolong – even without knowing it – I get sick within a minute. Violently nauseous, usually.

Someone along my path suggested I drink more oolong, because the reaction was flushing impurities out of my body. Bah. I resisted. Screw that.

Well, now in my new being, I’m saying yes. I’m trying everything. If it hurts, it’s painful, it feels weird or just “new”, I’m leaning into it. Sitting with it. Seeing how it feels. Playing with it even! So far, I’ve had massive breakthroughs because of it, albelt… well let’s just say I’ve had more change, and dramatically so, in the past few months than my entire life combined. And it’s mine. I own it. I’m also proud of it, and of me, for my courage.

So, this tea. I knew I had to try it, so I grabbed a cup. Just a cup. I knew i’d have to give it a few go-rounds before I could move on to other teas… but I had to really sit with this one. “Crap, there’s senna in it?” said my resistant brain. My mouth however said, “Cool, I’ll try it”.

I really enjoyed this (novel-worthy) tea, although I can’t remember why exactly. I just know that when I finished it, as I returned home from the library, I still hadn’t gotten sick.

drank Exotic Escape by Look Organic Tea

Delicate, very fruity (even unsweetened), with only a touch of floral – just the way I like these kinds of “tropical” greens. Definitely one i’ll enjoy again, although nothing I’d go bonkers over to have in my cupboard. Just, solid.

Grabbed a mini-package of this in-store, as I try to stop in every time I hit the downtown public library. Fitting for my first review in what feels like ages…

Flavors: Flowers, Fruity, Green

drank Just Peachy by DAVIDsTEA

Really had to search for this one through the entire DAVIDs catalog on here because it wouldn’t show up in search. Sigh. It’s just… okay. I can drink it easily, but it’s far from a favorite like, say, Hot Tropic.

Flavors: Peach

Preparation
Iced 4 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 18 OZ / 532 ML

the way davids teas don’t really sort of kinda show up but not really in the search drives me nuts. not surprising there are a bunch of duplicates in the non capitalised versions.

drank Shirley Temple by DAVIDsTEA
1501 tasting notes

I used to drink Shirley Temples when I was a kid like little else – it was my “treat” whenever I visited my mom at work. So, even though it’s been a while since I’ve had one (I occasionally still order one), this isn’t at all what I love about a Shirley Temple. Nope, nope, nope. There’s waaaaayy too much hibiscus, not enough cherry realness, and just… nope. Fizzy tis might work better for me (as a tea pop), but… nope. Did it iced, and, nope.

Flavors: Artificial, Cherry, Hibiscus, Tart

Preparation
Iced 4 min, 30 sec 3 tsp 18 OZ / 532 ML

drank Cashew Turtle by 52teas

Iced, and, well, old.. this is nowhere near as amazing as when it was in it’s heyday, but it’s the first 52 Teas from the former company that still tastes palatable. Creamy and chocolaty even, although not a lot of nut going on other than some dryness. Still, a lovely iced tea treat!

Flavors: Chocolate, Creamy, Drying

Preparation
Iced 4 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 18 OZ / 532 ML
Dustin

Have you been going through your older bags of 52 and finding them stale? I just dumped the rest of my tiramisu oolong because it had gone stale and flavorless. Guess I better check the others. :(

Profile

Bio

A few years ago, the obsession with tea started. The cupboard got bigger and bigger, more swaps occurred, group buys, secret rendezvous with local teapassionistas… and that’s how you end up with 500+ different kinds of tea in your home. At one time.

Almost all of the tea was given away, sold, or otherwise shared. A few relics still remain. I now travel full time with only two carryon bags to my name. One quarter of those bags are tea.

It’s still a challenge to avoid the chipmunk-like hoarding of The Teas, yet, the lightness of being from having so little compels me more.

If I have enough, I’m happy to share. If I’m in your area, I’d love to swap, meet for tea, and explore together.

As for the day-to-day stuff, I’m focused almost entirely on Love, (yes, with a capital L), Spirit/Self, transformation, travel and my writing and speaking work.

What kinds of teas do I normally like?

YES: flavored teas, fruity, dessert, chai, and spicy (REALLY spicy).

A FONDNESS FOR: all white teas, malty black teas, any herbal or medicinal teas, strange/weird teas you can only get in one place.

ALLERGIC TO: strawberries, lavender

DISLIKES: any added sugars, grains, lapsang souchong, and overly floral teas – I might enjoy a Jasmine Green every once in a while, but unless it’s a creamy floral tea (think roses in a chai, or the smoothness of a floral note in a French tea), I’ll likely pass. Earl Greys are a hit or miss with me; heavy on the cream or fruit notes and I might like it, heavy on the blergamot and I definitely won’t.
