2059 Tasting Notes

I had some stuff to do in downtown today, and when I checked the thermometer, I thought that “Winter is coming” is truth. Outside only 7°C (44.6 °F)!

But I managed to do everything. And faster than I thought.

Now I am back home, enjoying a cuppa. And then? A big cleaning up comes.
Prepared grandpa again, one heaped teaspoon. 300 ml glass mug

Colour is copper, opaque, with floating cornflowers. Looks cool!

Taste? Little spicy, but it is not overwhelming. Mint is cooling it immidiately. Bit smoky taste. Warming up blend. Tasty!

Boiling 3 g 10 OZ / 300 ML

September 2019 Subscription.
2 teaspoons, boiling water, grandpa.

Smells amazing when dry, so fresh, so little spicy!
I had quite a lot of carrot in those teaspoons, maybe way too much. And only one or two cloves. Base tea? Mild, but present in taste.

Overall enjoyable tea, without bad notes, not extra spicy. PIEce of tea.

Flavors: Carrot, Cinnamon, Clove

I slept quite well. And long. Today inventory check was cancelled. Sad because I won’t get money, but rather happy that I can rest.

3 teaspoons + 300 ml water, not boiling. Grandpa.
Whoa, maybe I used too much of mix. Light pink colour, quite clear. When stirred, turned out bit darker.

Aroma is quite weak, mostly cherries and creamy.
Taste is certainly more present than it was last time. But still, I expected stronger taste of cherries. And orange peels are quite strong there too. Is is not much creamy. Rather sour cherry + orange blend. I will keep the rating on 74.

Recommended? Not sure. I think it can be hit or miss.

Flavors: Cherry, Orange Zest

195 °F / 90 °C 8 min or more 3 tsp 10 OZ / 300 ML

Got this tea from Izzy. Thank you!
I would not rate “health” benefits, but just taste. It is tasting note afterall.

Brews quite light, yellow-green colour.
Actually, it is not bad. Ginger is not overpowering the citrus elements, so it is there, there is as well some sour notes from lemon, but certaainly orange peels is making it palatable.

This tasting note is super short, as I am awake for 32 hours with only small sleep breaks. I slept maybe two hours all at once. Need sleep, but can not feel asleep with daylight. D’oh

Ordered at Dobrá čajovna tearoom in Pardubice, as I am waiting for bus. Yep, another inventory check. This time groceries in Prague. I don’t feel great – last one was poorly made (my part) and I will got less money because of mistakes

Ordered this one, as I never had tea from Georgia. Received a teapot of volume I guess around 250-300 ml, a tea cup and thermos of hot water to add it to the pot.

Tea itself is quite sweet. But delighful sweetness. Bit like oolong sweetness. Roasted sweetness. I don’t know how to describe it better.

It tastes bit like jam. Malty jam. There are no citrus/lemon notes. Full of malt. But in no way drying.

Wonderful tea.

Leafhopper

I had a Georgian tea from What-Cha and “malty jam” describes it perfectly. :)

Haha :)
I could not resist and bought 50 grams of it. Lots of to find all the secrets of this tea.

Finding any relateable information about this tea is almost inpossible. And, as I have received it from postcrossing – I have no information myself. But I have found out it is probably from Aldi store, even I have found some ingredients somewhere, but not a full list of them.

Anyway, I am in kind of rush, but I will try my best. I prepared it plain, no milk, no cream – in 400 ml mug.

Eww. 3 minutes and something steep. Vanilla is overpowering everything. Tea base tastes like… if you detect it, dirty water. Bad base tea, or just chep one. There is little spices, rather “visible” in aromas, than in taste and from those are mostly cinnamon.

Vanilla and Cinnamon.
Okay. But tea in whole? Cheap bad chai. I had much better ones, this is really below average. This is not even good as daily tea.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Vanilla

Boiling 3 min, 30 sec 14 OZ / 400 ML

I am terrible. I do not use strainers. So a bit lazy too.

I took this one, as I was crawing for fruit tea. Raspberry with roasted rice? Fruit tea with roasted rice (a genmaicha ingredient)?

Okay, it smelled like salty popcorn when brewed. But as I keep it in hot water, bit of fruits (raspberries) appear there.
But when sipped, it is nice fruity. Yep because steeping time was longer. I notice raspberry with salty aftertaste. It is kind of tart too.

Not my favourite, but few I guess can like it.

I have got a bit (about 20 grams) from Donatzsky from IRC r/tea. Thanks!

And why I picked this one today? Honestly, I just looked to my Steepster cupboard and this was first one without tasting note. So, I took it and smelled it. It is interesting smell of dry leaf, it is bit metallic, but with some other notes I could not describe much. Maybe honey and herbs (thanks to Char (Oolong owl) with descriptions)? Certainly nice aroma.

Well I rinsed it for quite long and first steep quite short (15 seconds)
It is indeed like honey in aroma, as well some citrus peels. Taste is okay, I expected maybe bit darker (as a shu pu-erh). I don’t know why, when this is another sheng. Otherwise it is same as aroma, bit honey like with citrus notes.

2nd, 20 seconds.
Turns to more bitter, herbal notes appear while honey is disappearing. Citrus notes still somehow same. Not bad steep.

3rd, 30 seconds.
Turns even more bitter. Honey is gone. Citrus are disappearing. Moves to shu pu-erh.

4th, 30 seconds
Okay… similar to 3rd.

5th, 45 seconds
Not so bitter, but it is only note I am able to taste. I am steeping it wrong? Bit like dirty water. But not so disgusting.

6th, 45 seconds
Last one; tea is gone and I have to do something else as well. It is really similar to 5th. Maybe just this tea does not have that longevity as I am used to. It is not bad tea, but overall I am bit dissapointed. Expected maybe bit more of nice notes, less bitterness? I do not know. But it is not such bad. Just not my style.

Before trying this, I wanted to try tea I bought two years ago on Aliexpress. I never found out what is it, now I have tried Google translate and it seems it was leaves of Morus plant. I opened the bag, carefuly, because of collection. And I smelled it. It was disgusting. I throw it away. Maybe it was old, maybe it was because morus, I do not know, I did not wanted to drink it.

Food pairing: open sandwiches from my granny, we call them chlebíčky here.
No song pairing.

Flavors: Bitter, Citrus Zest, Honey, Metallic

A tea bag from Izzy I drank in the afternoon. Thank you Izzy!

I made same steeping parameters as in the morning. So, boiling water, 300 ml, 3 and half minutes. Worked as a charm again.

When I took the tea bag out of its foil prison, strong (too strong IMO) aroma of lemons, bergamot and limes hit my nose. Moreover, it smelled like some cleaning agent, not really enjoyable.

But when steeped, and sipped, it is completely different world. It is like earl grey, but something more is there! Tea base is light, but noticable. I think the more is jasmine and/or rose petals in. On tongue it is mellow, as well when drinking it. It is really nice to drink something hot when there is 15°C outside, foggy and rainy – typical autumn weather, or typical English (never been there) weather. It seems that summer is all gone.

This tea, well it is far from best teas I had (loose leaf is loose leaf), but from bag – I have to rate it really high. Mostly for great drinkability, no funky notes and tastes, just do not avoid it because it is over perfumed. It was punch into face, which turned out as great tea. Another example how dry and wet aroma can be different!

Rating 83 – as for tea bag. Maybe loose leaf will cause drop my rating a bit. But for tea bag?

Flavors: Bergamot, Lemon, Lime

Glad you enjoyed it! Whittard do a loose leaf version but the ingredients are different (no jasmine) so I’ve been hesitant to try it. The tea bags are good for what they are :)

Martin Bednář

Indeed I have enjoyed it. I was amazed it was so nice, even it was just a tea bag. That makes me bit curious – why they have different blend for loose leaf?

Another tea bag I have received through postcrossing.
And more over, steepster entry is wrong, but I could not access Harris Teeter website to download a new picture and/or add some information about this tea.

Received just only foil wrapping without any inforamtion, not even steeping parameters. It is just plain purple wrap saying “Harris Teeter Organics – English Breakfast Black Tea”

So, steeping paramters for blacks. 3 and 1/2 minutes, boiling water, 300 ml.
It seems it is dusty tea, not even trying to be quality, dry bag smells after basic cheap black tea. Maybe a little of bergamot or citruses, but that’s all. Moreover, I cut through the bag when opening the foil wrap with box cutter, so some tea “leaves” went out. Luckily not much of them.

Wet bag aroma – at least it is not somehow bad. Otherwise is is common, bit cocoa like + malty. Brew aroma is strongly malt.

In taste it is indeed very malty. As well it is quite drying. Few drops of lemon juice will make it better, but I do not have lemons at home. And I like my teas straight.

Overall, it is average, but tasty tea. Do not expect anything extra from this one.

You just blew my mind! Harris Teeter brand tea in the Czech Republic? Harris Teeter is where I shop. It is a grocery chain that was started in Charlotte, NC but the Harris family sold it a long time ago. I would not expect this to be a stellar tea, though I do use their store brand family size black tea bags for iced tea sometimes.

Martin Bednář

It is certainly not from Czech Republic. That is said it is from postcrossing. At least I have chance to get different flavours.

So, sorry for confusion.

ashmanra

I do understand it came from postcrossing! I just mean I find it amazing that a store brand tea from a local company made it all the way to Czech Republic! They are a small chain, and my friend’s father-in-law founded the store! I just sent her tea for her birthday, in fact!

Martin Bednář

Ahh. Haha lost in translation I guess. Then – it is even more cool tea bag than I thought.

I am drinking almost everything. Tea bag collector who moved to wonderful world of loose leaf.

Trying to rate differently tea bags and loose leaf as tea bags have usually worse quality.
