Afternoon Blend

I am so excited I found veggies my birds will eat. They’re so stubborn I just wanna shove it in their beaks and be like EAT. In any case, they eat acorn squash (uncooked and cut into chunks) and jalapenos (with all the seeds left in). Gandalf gets super stoked over jalapeno time. It’s pretty comical.

When I first steeped this up today, I had to doublecheck my parameters because all I smelled was bergamot. Holy man. Luckily it was the same cup as before. Mild base, mild bergamot, mild floral. This would work anytime of day, really. It’s just a lovely aromatic mild cup.

Downed a cup and a half before breaking down and actually peeking at the ingredients I couldn’t identify…odd that I’m not overfond of rose, jasmine, or bergamot individually, but together and with a light touch, they combine to make a properly civilized and elegant cuppa.

Anne Perry, one of my new favorite authors (she’s been around a while), writes a Victorian mystery series about detective Thomas Pitt, who married above his station. His wife, Charlotte, relies on her proper society connections and adventurous Aunt Vespasia to assist Thomas in infiltrating the ugly underbelly of the London uppercrust. I would proudly pour up a pot of this for either of the ladies.

I have had these beautiful tins on display in my secretary desk and realized I was letting it get old. Almost three years old now, I think! Time to drink them up.

I completely forgot what was in this tea and decided to make a really nice batch of sweet iced tea with it. I saw Afternoon Blend and immediately thought of Chinese black with Darjeeling. I made two gallons. Yes, two gallons. It will be gone very soon because it is hot as blazes here and in the South we survive that by drinking glass after glass of tea.

Hubby loves it, and prefers it to plain black tea and to the Apricot Black I made last. I was surprised when I tasted it and pulled out the tin and saw the jasmine and bergamot listed. At this point and in this huge amount, they are more subtle but it is seriously great.

This is a nice stand-alone black tea. Medium Strength, Medium flavors of aromatic floral and bergamot – maybe a bit on the lighter side of medium, actually. But regardless this is a really gratifying cup!

Thank you Ellyn! I think this is the tea I received in the swap. Well today has been very interesting and long. This tea is nice. The bergamot is actually quite light. This is a very light tasting tea. I’m getting some floral notes. I enjoyed this! Thank you.

Cold-brewed this overnight in the fridge using 2 heaping teaspoons for 500 ml water.

I’ve been foregoing tea lately in favor of cold-brewed iced coffee (I know, I’m a filthy turncoat) but I’m still trying to chip away at my stash little by little. This was pretty nice; flowery with the bergamot and jasmine, and tasted quite fancy. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling particularly fancy when I drank this and would have preferred something more refreshing. Would probably be good served hot at a tea party with doilies and silly hats – which, mark my words, I will get around to one day.

Ooh, I say! A lovely drink. The subtle mixture of jasmine and bergamot gives a delightful light taste. Considering that I do not usually like Earl Grey, this more subtle addition to the blend is more to my taste.

Made with a teabag, am drinking it with a splash of milk and am very much enjoying this cuppa :-)

On a good day, it tastes like an Earl Grey with a twist – something with Bergamot will always be Earl Grey in my eyes. The jasmine makes it taste quite civilised and regal somehow. I think it’s probably the perfect Afternoon drink with scones or something like that.
On a bad day the flavours seem to be battling each other rather than harmonising. Not sure whether it’s how I brewed it or the mood I was in. So in short, it’s quite a mixed review going on here…

It truly comes to life when brewed in a Yixing clay tea pot and gets treated like a Chinese would treat its tea…
I was rather disappointed when I drank it the very first time.But that was when I touched it with the hands of a European. Big mistake here…
So, as ‘Whittard of Chelsea’ is claiming to use a blend of Chinese teas, I started to re-think those nasty,little leafs. And it paid off…very interesting flavors are pushing through.
The Oolong on the left, Jasmin on the right and those rose pedal notes…well,slightly shy…trying to catch up with everything somewhere in the back.
This Afternoon blend is on the British market since almost 70 years by now…today I found out why!
