53 Tasting Notes
Hmm…I was just taken by surprise by the smell of this cup. It almost felt like I had gone back to the days of kindergarten. Why? Well it smelt almost exactly like Play Doh!!! It’s not that I really remember the smell of Play Doh from almost 20 years ago(there goes my age) but it definitely did seem to have some correlation. The smell might not be so bad for some people, but for me; I just can’t get the idea of drinking clay out of my head! Anyways, the taste of the tea wasn’t as bad, the almond was there although it’s not a strong roasted almond taste. Very subtle. I tried this with some milk the second time and it definitely killed some of the scent, so I will have to experiment with less tea and more milk to entirely kill the scent. What an experience :S
Preparation
Oh dear. I may have ordered a sample of this in my sample ordering frenzy (can’t now recall), but if it is playdoh-smelling… well just ugh. It is one of my least favorite smells, the only one from my childhood that is worse is the smell of comic book ink.
I have a test tomorrow, and I really must study for this thing arghh.
Well to make up for all the stress and pressure I just received my package from SpecialTeas. I’m just going to keep it brief and say that this tea is very very good. I’ll try and describe this tea in more detail later, but oh boy am I glad that I ordered this.
Preparation
This tea is fantastic! I guess I could call this my introduction to black tea since I used to go for only green, although I’ve had black tea sometime before. This tea has a very full-bodied taste, which was not too strong nor too weak. I really couldn’t ask for more when it comes to a good basic cup of black tea. Oh, and I learned that I don’t really like milk in black tea either because it seems to mask some of the tea’s unique flavor and it brings down the temperature a little. Anyways, this cup was enjoyable enough to convert me to a black tea drinker from green!
Add: My initial taste note of this tea was full of praise, but now that I’ve had more experience with black teas, I just don’t think this is strong enough. I can visually see this after I’ve finished the cup and see that it doesn’t leave much of a stain as other strong black teas. It’s still good enough for what you can easily get at the supermarket though.
Preparation
I didn’t really purchase this for myself, but I gave it a try anyways. It was a pretty boring and dull tasting tea which almost tasted like medicine, so I didn’t really like it. It also has some kind of dryness to it since it makes my mouth dry after drinking it. I guess it wouldn’t be that bad if you tried using it primarily to make you sleep.
Second try. I’ve used 2 tsps to bring out the flavor a bit more. I still don’t like the bubblegum smell, but this time I could actually taste the green tea which is much better than last time when it felt like drinking colored hot water.
I think I only took out 5 tsps or so from the 3.5oz tin. Would you be willing to swap it for something you don’t want?
This tea is not so good.
The tea leaves in the tin smelt very strong, but it wasn’t a pleasant one as it reminded me of cough syrup or some kind of medicine. When I steeped it, the scent remained the same but turned out a bit weaker, now reminding me of bubble gum. Well, I thought I could get pass the weird smell and at least enjoy what’s most important, the taste. It turned out that the flavor of the tea was overall very weak and I couldn’t really taste the caramel nor the apple. I might have expected too much, but this tea just didn’t work for me.
The tea in the tin smelt pretty good, it actually did somewhat resemble a carrot cake. So far, I’ve tried this with different amounts of milk and some sugar and I’m not that impressed. I’ve used a tsp of tea for each cup, so I might have to use a little more next time because the taste was subtle and not enough for my liking.
Milk is a gross tea’s best friend. Such a shame this was yucky!
