3294 Tasting Notes
Another busy day!
I was up at 7, showered & practiced for an hour, & then off to the salt room by 9 for my breathing therapy. I already had a student at 10 & another hour of practice. I drank this tea while teaching & practicing, & even with a limited tastebud experience, it’s still wonderful.
What else can I say?
Last night I did my monthly tea count, re-organized my shelves a bit, etc.
I’m starting the month at 362 Teas, which is down from 389 last month, so progress, not perfection, right?
My first cup of the month, although my sense of taste & smell is coming back, it’s still not where I want it to be, and I’ve been avoiding all of my favorite teas (all 277 of them, LOL), because…well because! Although there is a lot to be said for mouth-feel, tea buzz, etc, I hate to miss those subtle flavors. I just remembered that Sheng sometimes seems to help with allergies, so maybe I should quit messing around & bust out a brick!
All I’m getting from this tea today is a nice milky mouth, some baked bread, maybe a little chocolate (Which I’m probably imagining, not actually tasting), & cannibis. Yeah, you heard me. It’s been over 30 years since I toked up, but you never forget that taste.
:)
yay for getting through some of your teas last month! :) i have a SMALL totally unflavoured box here that you’ll get eventually..but i’m trying to give you time to drink more heh
I have a box of awesomeness that I’m still working on for you. It was suppose to be your birthday box, & includes the teas we ordered from YS, but it’s gonna be a late birthday…
it’s ok… it wil give me something to look forward to in september when i’m nowhere and everywhere all at once.
oh..and Nicole wanted to come to st louis if she can arrange it when i’m there so that all three of us can meet…once i get final date confirmation i will let you both know
Trying to keep the caffeine down, so I won’t stay up all night, although I have so many things to catch up on.
While I was visiting my folks, I came across some random tea bags, like the blueberry one I reviewed earlier, & so I brought a few home with me, this Honeybush included.
I much prefer Honeybush over Rooibos, it’s mildly sweet & kind of woody & soothing.
That’s all I’ve got.
:)
Hey Friends!
I haven’t been posting here much, still recuperating, waiting to get my full sense of taste back (I can taste sweet, & bitter, but I’m missing so many flavors), & swamped with life.
I did sample a bag of this tonight, & quite honestly, it’s better than I expected! I added a little sweetening, which set it all off, & not bad for a no-caffeine cup.
I’ve been drinking a lot of Nettles & Elderberry, & spiking the last of the Upton Russian Caravan with powdered Pao D’arco extract, & finally today I’m feeling an improvement in my breathing. My sinuses are starting to clear out & I’m starting to get my taste back, so I treated myself to a cup of this one, & it IS a treat :)
My lungs are still congested & heavy, so tomorrow morning I’ll go back to the Salt Room, & I’ll keep on with the herbs for awhile. But I am grateful to have noticeable improvement.
Things are looking up (& sorry for being a whiner earlier).
I filled a hot steamy bath & added a generous amount of lavender essential oil.
I can smell it, at least a little!
This is the first of 3 cups of tea that I brought to the tub. The only thing I can taste (right now), is an earthy feeling, some wood in the back of my throat, & a sensation I’ll call ‘robust’.
I also have a strong nettles infusion, a potent elderberry brew with a pinch of stevia (Cheryl’s herbs has the best tasting & most potent stevia extract powder I’ve ever had), & a nice cold cup of lemon water. This will be a long soak!
I am home.
I really enjoyed seeing my folks, & for the first few days, it appeared that I was going to get by without mishaps, & maybe I would decide that FL was not so bad a place after all.
Then in the middle of day 3, my allergies returned, in spite of zyrtek, nettles tea, & all my other efforts, & my folks got to watch me decline into darkness, until by the time I went home Tuesday, I was pretty damn sick. I hate that! But it was better than last year, & all of my other visits to them, when I became sick from allergies within an hour of arrival.
Thank you zyrtek, my rare pharmaceutical friend, although you were only a temporary help, at least there was that.
As it stands, I am still recuperating, because for me allergies are a total body experience. I’m drinking my herbs, sipping stock, breathing my essential oils, sucking warm salt water up into my sinuses, sipping cultured brine, resting, eating spicy food, etc. I managed to perk up yesterday when my friend came, & last night Tony took us out for Thai food. I couldn’t taste mine, but the spices were wonderful! In fact, I’m eating Tony’s leftovers for breakfast, & I think I’m starting to maybe taste a little bit of sweet & Umami! That’s a start!
Next up: Hot steamy lavender bath…
Then: A visit to the local Salt Spa, a Russian style salt room with a machine that filled the air with tiny tiny salt particles. You relax in there for 45 minutes, breathing in that air & listening to soft music. It’s wonderful for all kinds of ailments, especially asthma & allergies. I wish I could have gone everyday since I got home, they are only 3 minutes from my house, but they were closed for vacation.

Home from the Salt room. It really is nice. I’ll probably go every other day for awhile, until my lungs clear out.
Zyrtec does make me drowsy, & normally I take it only when things are so bad I can’t function, & then just for a day to give myself a break.
Part of my problem is I don’t want to take allergy medicine every day. I don’t even want to take any medicine at all, so I keep doing things to try to heal my immune system. I eliminated dairy a long time ago, which initially helped a lot. then I eliminated sugar, which also made a significant difference. A few years ago I eliminated gluten & grains, & that also made a huge difference.
I also added things to strengthen my cell walls: drinking stock, eating more protein. I’ve always eaten lots of vegetables, especially greens.
I drink nettles, which is a natural antihistamine, & loaded with minerals so it’s good bone support too. I eat cultured veggies.
AND in St. Louis, although I still have allergies, I feel like all of this is starting to pay off. This hasn’t been as bad of a year, until I left town. Unfortunately, I don’t really travel well unless I’m going somewhere dry like AZ & CO.
So I’m gonna keep doing these things, & next year I’ll fly my parents to St. Louis for their anniversary instead.
I didn’t have any allergies until couple years ago. This year is especially bad for me. If I don’t take medicine I sneeze like crazy 50 times in a row and water runs thru my nose. I even bought expensive vacuum cleaner with water filter. Don’t have carpets or pets. My friend went to Chienese acupuncture spec and she is allergy free for 2 seasons already. I should try him too. Having parents over is a great idea. They need a change too.
My oldest friend, who I’ve known since I was 10, came for a visit yesterday!! The awesome thing is, no matter how long we’re apart & no matter how rare our visits, every time we get together it’s like I just saw her yesterday! We’re always into so many of the same things, & it was a wonderful day. She loves tea, so I served her LB & she loved it, so I gave her some to take home :)
I think she might join steepster…
I’m happy to report that I brought a thermometer with me, because when I pulled this one out of the bag, I realized that the recommended temp is 165! I have 2 samples of this, I think one is from Sil & this one is from Stephanie. So although this is a sip down for the tea I brought with me, it’s not a real sip down, because I have more at home.
I’m sad to report that the zyrtec I’ve been taking only really worked for the first couple of days of my visit, & each day I feel worse, so today I totally feel like crap. However, the silver lining is that last year (& every time I come to visit) I started feeling like that almost immediately after leaving the airport, & so the experiment has basically been a success, because I’m going home to my usual allergens tomorrow & I probably won’t even notice them upon re-entry.
Although you might not want to trust my taste buds, what I’m getting from this is lightly steamed green beans, with a creamy mouth-feel, and a lingering thick tongue sensation.
