I am home.
I really enjoyed seeing my folks, & for the first few days, it appeared that I was going to get by without mishaps, & maybe I would decide that FL was not so bad a place after all.
Then in the middle of day 3, my allergies returned, in spite of zyrtek, nettles tea, & all my other efforts, & my folks got to watch me decline into darkness, until by the time I went home Tuesday, I was pretty damn sick. I hate that! But it was better than last year, & all of my other visits to them, when I became sick from allergies within an hour of arrival.
Thank you zyrtek, my rare pharmaceutical friend, although you were only a temporary help, at least there was that.

As it stands, I am still recuperating, because for me allergies are a total body experience. I’m drinking my herbs, sipping stock, breathing my essential oils, sucking warm salt water up into my sinuses, sipping cultured brine, resting, eating spicy food, etc. I managed to perk up yesterday when my friend came, & last night Tony took us out for Thai food. I couldn’t taste mine, but the spices were wonderful! In fact, I’m eating Tony’s leftovers for breakfast, & I think I’m starting to maybe taste a little bit of sweet & Umami! That’s a start!

Next up: Hot steamy lavender bath…
Then: A visit to the local Salt Spa, a Russian style salt room with a machine that filled the air with tiny tiny salt particles. You relax in there for 45 minutes, breathing in that air & listening to soft music. It’s wonderful for all kinds of ailments, especially asthma & allergies. I wish I could have gone everyday since I got home, they are only 3 minutes from my house, but they were closed for vacation.

I switched to Allegra. I like it more than Zyrtec which would make me very sleepy

Home from the Salt room. It really is nice. I’ll probably go every other day for awhile, until my lungs clear out.
Zyrtec does make me drowsy, & normally I take it only when things are so bad I can’t function, & then just for a day to give myself a break.
Part of my problem is I don’t want to take allergy medicine every day. I don’t even want to take any medicine at all, so I keep doing things to try to heal my immune system. I eliminated dairy a long time ago, which initially helped a lot. then I eliminated sugar, which also made a significant difference. A few years ago I eliminated gluten & grains, & that also made a huge difference.
I also added things to strengthen my cell walls: drinking stock, eating more protein. I’ve always eaten lots of vegetables, especially greens.
I drink nettles, which is a natural antihistamine, & loaded with minerals so it’s good bone support too. I eat cultured veggies.
AND in St. Louis, although I still have allergies, I feel like all of this is starting to pay off. This hasn’t been as bad of a year, until I left town. Unfortunately, I don’t really travel well unless I’m going somewhere dry like AZ & CO.
So I’m gonna keep doing these things, & next year I’ll fly my parents to St. Louis for their anniversary instead.

I didn’t have any allergies until couple years ago. This year is especially bad for me. If I don’t take medicine I sneeze like crazy 50 times in a row and water runs thru my nose. I even bought expensive vacuum cleaner with water filter. Don’t have carpets or pets. My friend went to Chienese acupuncture spec and she is allergy free for 2 seasons already. I should try him too. Having parents over is a great idea. They need a change too.

Bio

I’m so excited to have found this community! I’m a self-employed Harpist (acoustic & electric – Originals, Classical, Rock, Jazz, etc) & Singer/Songwriter. My days & nights revolve around teaching at home, playing gigs, gardening,& fixing awesome food to eat. My schedule is different everyday, but I just go with the flow, & I sip a lot of tea!

My love of Tea began with Herbals back in the 70’s. One of my favorites was a licorice blend from House of Hezekiah, an old tea shop in Kansas City. There was also a tea with mint, rose petals, chamomile, etc called Nuclear Casual Tea.
In the 80’s I gave up caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, (& a few illicit substances…), and brewed medicinal blends & tinctures to support 4 pregnancies (all children born at home). In the 90’s my love affair with green teas began when I discovered ‘The Republic of Tea’. Their beautiful teas & packaging inspired my original song, “TeaMind”, from my CD “Zen Breakfast”. If you’d like to hear the song for free, drop by my website.

In general, I drink my teas straight, but occasionally I add a pinch of Stevia & maybe some coconut or almond milk (I’m allergic to dairy, gluten, & various other things & avoid most sweets.)

I’ve explored a variety of teas:
Whites tend to be a little bland…sorry
Oolongs – wonderfully sensual
Roobios – I’m not a fan in general
Puehr – a fairly new direction for me
I’m not a huge fan of flavored teas, but I do make exceptions, & I’ll try just about anything once.

And Black Tea, Oh how I love thee!!
I am on a quest for the most wonderful breakfast cup! I will find you, my Love!
