At the end of October I was at Epcot in Orlando wandering around the World Showcase and found a Twinings store in England. I bought this one with so many expectations and deep rooted excitement. Not sure if that is what would later ruin the experience for me. I put in my cupboard and forced myself to wait until after Thanksgiving when the Christmas tree and all the decorations were out so I could get the full experience. I brewed a pot and sat in the living room by the tree with my husband (we even put the Yule log thing on the tv that we found on Netflix for the full effect). First sip….. complete disappointment. Bland tea that just seemed to be a weaker version of Chai. That whole month of eyeballing it every time I got a tea out of my cupboard and THAT is what I get? It was a sad day. :(
Fourth tea bag in today’s sipdown. Vastly unimpressed with this one. Dry, the bag smelled of paper. The cup when brewed had some slight scent that was nice but overly mild. First sip I got cloves and orange, but not in large quantities. Now I’m about ten sips in and am getting . . . spiced paper. Also the more I smell the mug, the more I’m getting a pu’erh smell from the tea. This is definitely not a tea I’ll be craving next Christmas. :(
Although it’s got cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in the mix, Twinings Christmas Tea isn’t overly spiced. It’s easy to go overboard with holiday spiced teas…I’ve had some where I’ve seriously wondered if I haven’t accidentally steeped potpourri instead of tea.
This isn’t like that. It’s lovely for an afternoon or evening…I hesitate to recommend it as a morning cuppa, simply because like a lot of Twinings bags, I don’t think it’s strong enough. However, it should be noted that I like my black teas very, very strong, so to each their own.
I won’t lie, drinking Christmas tea on 19th January seems weird. And very off. We took down our Christmas tea yesterday. Everything looks like early spring here.
Anyway, there is nothing I can do, but finish my advent calendar! Thank you Devon!
Okay, this was quite mediocre. Nice, however a bit flat tasting black tea base and spices. Probably the most prominent was clove and cinnamon. Quickly forgettable. I would expect a little more from famous company as Twinings is.

So, I made quite an effort to buy pretty much all of the grocery store holiday teas this season, and since stores around me never seem to carry any of them (grrr…), that meant ordering them online. So I went through the trouble of getting them, but then I didn’t end up actually drinking any of them, because I had so many advent teas to contend with. Oops?
Therefore I’ve decided to try them all this January, and write a note for each one. Hence we have arrived at the first note, welcome! I chose this to try first somewhat randomly, it was the first black tea I saw in the pile of boxes. It’s quite nice actually. Oddly I’m tasting quite a bit of orange, which isn’t even mentioned in the description. It’s a nice sweet orange, and the spices are subdued enough that they don’t completely overpower it. I’m definitely picking up on the clove, and then the cinnamon adds a sweet warmth in the background. The base tea is quite light, but very smooth.
A good one to start with! It’s similar to Constant Comment, though I remember that one having a much stronger clove presence. I prefer the more restrained version in this tea, it lets the orange shine a bit more.

I’m with you…I had trouble finding any holiday tea locally at all. I still have a few bags of this one left, and it’s my favorite Twinings caffeinated holiday variety. I don’t think it will feel out-of-season drinking it all winter long.
yes, I really tried finding Celestial Seasonings Nutcracker Sweet. Everywhere wanted like $20 for shipping :/ It’s weird holiday teas aren’t in stores anymore. Happy new year!

I picked this up as a stocking stuffer for myself and others at Christmas. I thought it wouldn’t be the most fragrant tea ever, but Twinings makes solid black teas, so I shouldn’t be disappointed.
But I was. This tea was so bland. It is so flavourless. It is so forgettable. All of the flavour notes? I could barely taste anything other than some faint orange flavour. It is not worth the price and there are plenty of other orange/spice/cinnamon teas that are far superior and cheaper.

Our buildings & grounds director (a tea guy himself) brought me a little variety box of four different Twinings holiday teas. (I have enough Winter Spice now to get me through three winters ;) Two I have tried previously; this one is new to me and is very pleasant on a chilly morning. The cinnamon and clove are mellow and fresh (vs. bitter, dried-out spice cabinet dregs) and I’m getting some orange rind as well. Another reviewer likened this Christmas tea to Constant Comment, only a bit milder. That hits the nail on the head.
I envy all these holiday teas you guys are posting about! I’ve checked the two grocery stores near me and my Shoppers Drug Mart, and no festive teas are to be found. :( Are there any good options in Canada that don’t have ridiculous shipping charges or huge free shipping thresholds?
Here in SW Missouri, our grocery stores often buy one or two of those seasonal cardboard kiosks to set up at the end of an aisle, and when they are gone, they are gone. Celestial Seasonings most often; sometimes Twinings; very rarely, Bigelow. This bundle was mail order from a vendor called “By the Cup.”
I have seen zero winter/Christmas teas around here.
Gmathis, I haven’t seen that here, though maybe they do it in larger stores like Walmart and Target, which aren’t near me.

None in our grocery stores and we did used to get the cardboard display. Saw some at World Market and that’s it.
Martin, I think everything is slow right now, particularly because it’s the holidays. I’ve been waiting over a month for a package from China.
Ashmanra, it seems that the dearth of festive teas is widespread. I’ll have to plan better next year. I don’t want a whole Advent calendar, just a few small packages of seasonal tea that won’t stay in my tea museum for years.
That sounds very nice. The only Twinings Christmas tea available where I live (yes, I looked, even though I am NOT BUYING ANY MORE TEA) is the Winter Spice, which I didnt’ particularly care for.
Leafhopper, Loblaws, Sobey’s, Metro, and often No Frills usually have Celestial Seasonings’ Holiday flavours. Also, bulk stores such as Bulk Barn often have flavoured teas by weight. Depends on neighbourhood. downtown might have more options. Even Winners might have something worth drinking. And Holt Renfrew for high end teas.
Oh, and that new-ish expensive chef’s market, the name escapes me.
Evol Ving Ness, it’s too bad none of those stores is near me. In a normal year, I’d go downtown and have a look, but I don’t think it’s worth the risk right now.
Understood. I am not budging much either although I have a couple near-ish enough. With potential Christmas crowds, not worth it.
