From Twinings

Fine black tea expertly blended with the citrus fruit flavor of bergamot, to deliver an uplifting tea with a unique floral aroma and refreshing taste.

Twinings has been blending my family tea for years. Today, I am proud to continue this tradition with the tea celebrated throughout the world known as Twinings Earl Grey. Legend has it, that my ancestor, the second Earl Grey, was presented with this exquisite recipe by an envoy on his return from China.

I had to have Earl Grey this morning. I’m thinking its a plus that my favorite EG is also one of the most inexpensive on the market. It’s also one of the easiest to find. My parents drank this and so do I. I’m really used to the taste and its my favorite so far. Many of the EG add too much bergamot and others don’t add enough. I’m still looking for the perfect Earl Grey and until I find it this one will have to do.

I agree that many Earl Grey blends are too bergamot-heavy … it’s like drinking perfume. A well-blended one is very enjoyable!

Mmmm so I’m thinking that bringing a french press to work was one of the best ideas I’ve had in a while. I’ve been able to make large quantities and share with my co-workers. Yesterday I made coffee tea and today The Earl. It was quite a hit not only with my co-workers but myself. They all said it was so good…slowly the whole office will come to the darkside ;)

Ok, this is coming from the guy with the stormtrooper avatar, but I prefer to think of it as helping them stepp out of the darkness into the light. I have only won one convert so far at work and this tea is his favorite.

Hang in there! It took two years but I have finally won over my oldest daughter. Next, my son…who by the way really IS a stormtrooper! Well, with the 501 st Garrison, anyway! He has a full set of sand trooper ANH armor and an ESB clean storm trooper set under way! LOL! This is Christmas parade season, so he is in his armor a lot!

Here is another tea that I have in my cupboard, drink a lot of it and never have done a tasting on.
I got six tins of this off of Amazon for 17 bucks.
I have a two tins left.
I would not go as far as to say that this tea is my favorite Earl Grey out there, but it does have the qualities I like in a Earl Grey.
A bright slightly rough Bergamot and a brisk black tea.
Overall, this is the type of tea I like waking up to.
The smell starts getting me woke up before I have even taken a sip.
At the price I got this at there is no guilt in having it every morning.
A decent EG at a decent price and it does the job of getting me going in the morning.
Can’t ask for more than that.

Just FYI, I looked this up on Amazon and since Spring, the price for a 6 pack has gone up to 25 bucks.

My fiance was running out of Earl Grey and he picked up a tin of this to share with me since he thought I would like a loose leaf Earl and he knows that I like Twinings tea.

The tea was not as astringent in the loose leaf version as it is in the bagged version. It brewed up a lighter amber color as well. It was still a delicious Earl with the bergamot shining through, but not replacing the flavor of the black tea.

I had most of my cup with milk for a smooth drink to have with my bacon and eggs this morning. It was yummy and I think I might be spoiled for my Earl Greys now. I want them all to be loose leaf. He gave me two big tablespoons of dry tea so it will last me a couple of days before I pester him for more.

Logically if you are going to speculate on what Spock would drink you have to follow it with some next generation goodness. Tea, Earl Grey, hot. I don’t have a replicator (darn)
So I ‘borrowed’ this from my coworker’s stash. It has been a long time since I’ve had the Twinings version. My usual Ahmad uses a Ceylon base so it has some bite. This is much smoother whatever Twinings uses. I miss the bite. Both are slightly drying. I find in the bagged version of this the bergamot is brighter. With the loose, I could stand it being turned up a notch or two. Minor personal taste complaints aside, this tea accomplishes its purpose. It is a basic yet solid Earl Grey that is very affordable. If I did not have an equally affordable alternative that I liked a little better, I would undoubtedly drink this several times in a week.

A nice run-of-the-mill EG in a bag. Another Bob’s Tea. It’s strong but not too strong. Pretty good for a bagged EG…glad I finally got to try it!

ScottTeaMan

I think this is a good cold brew EG-if you like bergamot.

I went to our local farmer’s market this morning, and chatted to a few of the regular famers there as I was shopping for fruit and vegetables. They’re all very worried at the moment, as two swarms of locusts have crossed the Sinai desert from Egypt and landed in the Israeli south, with its fields of produce and lush hothouses. The beasts are a menace, destroying whole fields in minutes, and getting rid of them won’t be an easy task. Right now everyone’s watching the wind, to see if it will carry more locusts across the border or not.
I just remembered it now, while sipping this tea – the fragility of crops, the hardship that farmers face, the pride that they take in their produce, and how we miss so much of that aspect of food growing when we buy a shrink wrapped tin in a supermarket. That’s part of why I appreciate sites like Verdant Tea, who highlight and expose some of that hidden aspect of consuming.

I understand. Today as I was driving home I was suddenly haunted by the taste of a Ti Kuan Yin I had last night. I wanted more so badly! And it made me reflect on all the hard working hands that were necessary to bring that experience to me. I am thankful and humbled.

This is a good bagged earl. With a little splash of milk, this isn’t too astringent. There is a good amount of bergamont, but not overpowering. So convenient for travelling.

This is not the fanciest Earl Grey, nor the best, but sometimes it’s just what I am in the mood for. It tastes like… well, home! This was always a staple in my house as a kid so I find it very comforting. And for what it is, it’s delicious! Plus you can leave the bag in for 15 minutes while you wait for your PS3 to update and it doesn’t get bitter.

I was surprised to see this at a local grocery store and I had to try it (I’ve been having serious earl grey cravings lately). For the price, it’s very good. It was only five dollars for a 100 gram tin. It’s very very smooth, the bergamot is light and tastes natural. Very satisfying bargain cup of earl grey.
