VariaTEA was kind enough to send me some – thank you.
I’m having a hard time with this tea. I know this is a tisane, and I’m not sure why I would expect anything different – but why is a chocolate banana tea the color of apple juice. I can’t wrap my head around that – I’m thinking chocolate banana pie, and looking at white wine. You eat with your eyes first – but do you drink with your eyes?
I think it lacks flavor – it’s a bit chocolaty and vaguely fruity – can’t say I’m getting actual banana. This is really sweet.
I’m going to pass on this one….

VariaTEA

I’m sorry you didn’t like it. I was definitely thrown off by the color as well.

Dexter

NO worries, every tea experience is a learning experience. I learned that I don’t need to buy more of this. Thank you!!

Jackie O

I feel like most teas I try to Teavana have the exact same fake sugary dried pineapple flavor to them. I tried Pumpkin Spice Brule Oolong recently hoping it would be better, but it’s the same. Just too much sugariness and not enough FLAVOR.

VariaTEA

Pumpkin spice brûlée was so oily…I get nauseas thinking about it same goes for white chocolate peppermint and spice apple cider and I had such high hopes for them

Jackie O

maybe that’s what it is, like a thick oily coat of artificial sweetness

thank you kallieboo! for this sample as well. HOLY JEEPERS this is SWEEEEEET! it smells divine…chocolate banana but man i can’t drink this because it is a walking talking cup of sugar. Maybe i’ll try the rest of my sample as a latte to see if that helps with the sweet fact because this could be a pretty darn delicious tea….if it weren’t so sweet. omg. seriously. wow.

Seriously, what am I doing wrong? I used 4 heaping teaspoons this time and steeped for nearly 10 minutes and unsweetened it was slightly sweet water. Sweetener improved the flavors and it is really tasty, but nothing like the other reviews. For the record, the 4 tsp also makes it look darker and almost thicker in a way which leaves a pretty nice mouth feel. Still, I’m not sad that Teavana likely discontinued this blend. I’ll enjoy while I have it, but eh.

And I think I’m going to try combining this with another one of my chocolate-based teas and see if that helps gives the chocolate flavor more oomph. It certainly can’t hurt!

I never get a ton of chocolate with this tea. I like the banana sweetness to it, but I do find it works best when I just set it to steep and forget about it until the water is cool enough to drink.

Dexter

I couldn’t get past the color. It was the color of white wine and suppose to taste like chocolate – couldn’t wrap my head around that. They say you eat with your eyes first – it didn’t look like chocolate and therefore it didn’t taste like chocolate. It was also really thin – tasted watery too me.
You can try blending it with another tea, or you can toss a few chocolate chips in your infuser.

@mewakeling: Next time, I’ll do that.

This is rapidly becoming my go to for a banana tea. It has a little less nut influence, and a lot more fruit flavours going on, but the banana is certainly the dominant flavour. I find this one does best with a longer steep and a high water temperature. The banana is such a sweet flavour, that there is no need for any additional sweetening.

As I work my way through today’s apparent banana fixation, this one was a good place to pass through!

VariaTEA

I wonder how this would have tasted cold brewed. I got rid of what I had prior to learning the cold brewing method.

I have a bunch I got on sale a while ago, I shall set some up to cold steep tm and we will see what we get!

VariaTEA

haha I shall keep my eye open for that tasting note.

Tea #8 of iceday sipdown

Got this one from Jackie.

The dry notes are fruity, but not bananaey, a slightly chocolaty.
Steeped it smells banana like but also metal like. Which I often get from herbals.
This is delicious, very banana, slightly sweet, a touch of chocolate. So flippen good. It tastes like a milkshake.

I hope this wasn’t seasonal or anything… I haven’t seen it in my store.

They didn’t have it out at my store, they still don’t, I asked them for it and they pulled it from the back, your store might be hiding it too

I went in for my free cup of tea and somehow walked out with this. The aroma is chocolate bananas. The flavor is pretty sweet. Chocolate banana with hints of caramel. It’s smooth and creamy though. Super sugary aftertaste :\

Ok so I’m guilty of loving Teavana’s herbal dessert teas. I’ve been checking back with my local Teavana to see if they’ve gotten this in yet and yesterday they finally had it!! I ordered 2 oz and when the manager said “For this 4.5 oz you would only pay $18” I said “I don’t know if I like it yet, 2 is good.”

Now I’m almost through the 2 oz because the chunks in the tea are large, there are pieces of dried bananas that really complete the flavor but there aren’t a ton of them. The first cup I had I brewed a little too long for my taste, it was very sweet and tangy, to me it was really similar to Azteca Fire, which I love. The second cup I made sure to get some banana pieces and BAM…delicious. I brewed it for less time, probably 5 minutes, and it was still sweet but the tangy tartness wasn’t there and I could taste the caramel and chocolate as well.

Banana lovers or dessert tea lovers, try this! It’s not like out of this world good but since I love dessert teas, and this is an herbal, I can drink it at night in my bath without worrying about being up for all hours!

Backlogging from yesterday.

I received this in a swap package from Courtney, and I have to say after reading the description of it I was excited to give it a try.

Whoa, this is a sweet tea! No additional sugar needed. Lots of banana flavor which I really like. Surprisingly, I’m liking the chocolate, too. I’ve never been a huge fan of chocolate in teas, but it works with this one. It’s a really fun herbal, and I think it would make a great after dinner dessert tea for a dinner party. Or a kid’s tea party. Or a before bed treat….

Thanks for sharing this one, Courtney!

How mad am I that they are discontinuing this tea? It seems as soon as I find a tea I like, it’s gone, but if I hate the tea it’s on the shelf forever.

This is a very banana-tasting tea, as advertised. And there is just a hint of chocolate. It’s quite a nice caffeine-free dessert tea.

I had two delicious steeps of this tea this afternoon. It tastes a lot like Copabanana to me, which is definitely not a bad thing. I had a $10 off coupon with Teavana, so I got a few herbal blends to try out. So far, I’m quite enjoying them.
