Hm. Smells like rooibos and tastes like… something weird. I want rhubarb, I’m getting… something else. Hard to place. The aftertaste is a bit like panna cotta? Maybe? Rhubarb is a stretch. Going to wait until it cools a bit to add to this review.

EDIT: Added some cream and a drop of vanilla stevia glyerate to see if this gets better. Uh… it curdled the cream, which is weird, because the other drink I did the same thing with was just fine with the same cream. Pass.

First…THANK YOU Amanda!!!

Now…

I LOVE rhubarb but this smells REALLY FUNKY.

REALLY FUNKY.

It smells like a weird cheese, plantains, some kind of nut, butt, lime, and strawberry????

Totally random and totally weird.

Stinky.

The Taste…

I can side with Amanda’s comment about a yogurt tart flavor. It’s not good, bad, or indifferent…just something I noticed. I’m not bothered by it. There is a subtle rhubarb and lime-E type flavor I am getting that I sort of dig…so that’s not bad. It is sweet.

The taste is alright! The smell…OYE VAY!

I’ll meet ya in the middle with a rating (while I plug my nose!)

Dinosara

I love how you slipped “butt” in there in the descriptors of the smell so that you almost miss it if you’re reading too fast.

TeaEqualsBliss

LOL – that’s EXACTLY why I did it!!! Nice catch! :) LMAO!!!!

Mélissa

Sounds rather ODD.

Ninavampi

I had to read it 3 times to make sure I had read it right. I laughed out loud. People must have thought I was crazy! : )

TeaEqualsBliss

teehee…I’m CRAZY like that…

Infusin_Susan

Yikes. Think I’ll steer clear of this one.

ScottTeaMan

So…….you did say BUTT! :-D

TeaEqualsBliss

Indeed I did :)

Tisane of the evening…. (SRP #42)

This one comes from Amanda. Thank you!

Surprisingly, I was in the mood for a hot drink this evening as the temp is cooling pretty well and the humidity is going down. I think it got up to the mid 80s today which necessitated my favorite Lychee iced tea for the afternoon. I am so thankful for the break in the heat. My new a/c system (since the old one pretty much died) comes on Thursday. I can definitely handle a high of 71 for tomorrow! Since I grew up with a/c, I am such a wimp for heat and humidity. I know some love not using it, but I pretty much need it to function on hot days. Low 70s is my favorite weather!

I am usually not a fan or rooibos, but I will admit that this one is interesting. I do agree with other reviewers that it kind of reminds me of yogurt. I did not really get rhubarb, but I do detect a creamy tartness. After the first few sips, I sweetened it to the point where I actually could only taste the sweet and the rooibos, so that was kind of an error on my part. I know it is not something I would buy, but it is always good to see how different flavors blend with a particular tea base. I am always up for a little palate training as well as flavor blending ideas, so I am thankful for the chance to try this.

Mug method. 3 tsp, about 15 oz. boiling water for 5 minutes.

This came about as a recent swap with Amanda. Even though she gave it less than stellar reviews I wanted to try it anyway, plus I am always looking for some more caffeine free things.

I don’t love roobois much so I was thinking I might hate this but I did have a strawberry rhubarb tea once from Lupicia that I really liked.

Steeped for 5 minutes with boiling water in my $4 Daiso teapot.

Yeah the smell of this is pretty funky. It’s like a yogurt that went bad. I don’t think it quite smells like butt but maybe… feet? The flavor isn’t quite as bad though thankfully. I don’t quite know if I taste any rhubarb in here. I think it needs something. It was definitely better with some soymilk. And maybe it needs a pinch of sugar. Well I will find some way to make it more drinkable but I won’t be buying any…. :)

I’m glad I’ve never had a tea that smells like butt …….or feet. Also, I’ve had a slow tea drinking day due to football. Yeah….Baltimore lost…but why did the 49ERS have to lose?

momo

next time anything involves “panna cotta” I think I am going to ask how it smells brewed instead of just smelling the tea in a canister. Never again hahaha.

TeaBrat

@ Scott – I was too busy drinking tea to watch the game
@Amanda – I really had to try it to see if it was as weird as you described – yep!

Thank you Amanda for this Sample! I was just about to pull out the basket to stop the steep at 5 minutes when my cell rang….so I forgot and chatted another 5 minutes with my daughter about my Grandson’s story “My Wonderful Day With Grandma” where he got to break a plate at Taverna Greek Restaurant ‘OPA’ and spend the night. Soooo the tea went 10 minutes before I set it free to pour. Smells vanilla creamy…and very much like Panna Cotta with burnt sugar top. Where is that rhubarb? I know rhubarb is not just tart and can be cooked down to a warm and fat flavor, it really is a vegitable officially, almost in a vegital way but I could hardly detect it even as I enhaled deeply from the wet rooibos mix. It is there alright so barely that you have to know that it is not sweet or tart but more like a tomato is a fruit if that makes sense . As things go…if you like Panna Cotta this is fine and good. If you wanted Rhubarb it would be hard to find here. The fact that this is caffeine free is a plus.

additional notes: A Steepsterer sent me this tea years ago and since my sample STILL tastes good, when TeaGschwendner had a sale the day after I was thinking of this tea, I just had to buy some! If it’s the same, I know the flavor lasts for years, so it’s a good tea to stock up on. Sipping it now, flavor is so full. Rhubarb and cream! One of the best rhubarb teas. Yum. Raising the rating from an 84.

It’s tart, but it tastes more like it’s yogurt tart instead of rhubarb tart. It’s kind of weird, coming from a tea. (Probably like DavidsTea lime gelato, I’ll have to try a cold brew of it.)

I thought this smelled awesome but I’m not so sure about it. Something just smells weird about it now and I’m like second guessing taking a sip. Maybe there’s a reason you don’t see rhubarb yogurt in the grocery store?

On the plus side, I don’t think it’s got that rooibos-y taste. It’s creamy and tart, but the rhubarb seems more like a vague mixture of fruits. I’m having a hard time figuring it out.

If anyone wants some of this, I’d gladly share. I don’t think I can make it through 100g of it alone.

TeaBrat

lol. do you want to swap for a green coconut tea (also from TeaGshwender) or something else? If so PM me. :)

I don’t think I’ve ever had rhubarb so I can’t really tell you if this tastes like rhubarb. But, if you gave me this tea without telling me what it was and asked me to name it, I’d name it “Peaches and Cream”… maybe I’d even go as far as to name it “Peach Cobbler”. Yep, that’s what I getting out of it. Peaches. It’s good though. It has a nice flavor and the rooibos flavor doesn’t take over.

Update – I forgot to mention that this was a sample sent to me by my friend Lisbet! Thanks Liz!

I have actually found myself really liking this one. It was the risk of my TG order, and my favorite as it turned out. Mmmm..

Where’s the rhubarb?

I love rhubarb, at one job we made rhubarb consomme and served a shrimp, lobster, and celery slaw with it. That was yummy. This tea is yummy, but no rhubarb is in it! The apple is the main flavor, with some creaminess to it. I’m not a fan of overpowering flavor, but the name should be what the tea is.

I am just not a fan of TeaG’s flavored Rooibush teas. I have only had three, but from those, I think I will go elsewhere for flavored rooibos.

I wish I had some rhubarb jam, then this tea would be more to my liking. It’s still a nice tea, I’ll go through the 50g I bought. It’s just not what I wanted.

Having no idea what rhubarb tasted like (from memory, that is), I decided this tea’s description sounded good enough to risk ordering a bag. The aroma of the tea, dry, was deliciously sweet, just a bit spicy, almost caramel-like. Brewed, it’s sweet, but not overpoweringly or sickeningly so. It’s a bit like caramel popcorn, but better than that (as even when I type that out I think it sounds gross). For once, I’m drinking a flavored rooibos with enough flavoring to warrant its lavish description. A great dessert tea.
