From Plum Deluxe

Full Moon Chai was one of our original blends, now back with even more creative energy. We’ve taken our classic, signature masala chai and added a splash of vanilla butternut extract. This simple twist adds a depth, warmth, and vibrancy to your traditional chai, and also gives the flavor a hint of sweetness and creaminess without having to add lots of sugar or milk (though we do like this blend prepared as a traditional masala chai or chai latte).

It makes a great pairing for those indoor days where you need something warm and comforting. It’s also a lovely companion for those moments when you need a high-caffeine blend to give you focus and momentum, and it’s even good for a delicious chai cocktail or three!

(Please note ingredients also contain Vanilla Butternut Extract, not available in ingredients dropdown menu.)

This chai is actually pretty weak, I tried steeping it the recommended time, and also brewing it like the original chai with the whole spices and black tea. Brewing it for a longer period of time, makes the ginger come out and after brewing it even more then all I taste is clove. I wont be buying this again, I’d rather make it myself.

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea #11

Plum Deluxe blends are a little tricky to get a hold of, so I wanted to take this chance to try this one – even if it didn’t seem perfectly up my alley. The name, though, was also fun and made me curious to try it as well. I remember drinking it and thinking it was alright, but there’s not really anything memorable about the tea or the spice composition. It was a nice, but very average Chai IMO

Pretty much right down the middle.

I wanted a latte. A spiced, delicious latte with whipped cream. So that’s what I made.

This tea was one of two teas I grabbed in addition to the Plum Deluxe advent and I think I did that for free shipping purposes. At the time of the order, I just finished or was almost finished my Chaiwala chai and so I had that on the mind and I think that’s why this appealed to me.

Drinking it now, its nice. It’s not replacing the Chaiwala one as a favorite but its also got a nice balance of spices that are offset by a soft caramel. It has vanilla butternut essence but that doesn’t really come through much for me. I think that feeds into the caramel more than anything. With that said, I wish the caramel flavor was stronger since that’s the component that should be setting this apart from other chais.

This is a pretty decent chai. The main flavor is ginger. It’s not spicy, but the flavors are nice. It’s not super special, but it’s a quality chai. I enjoyed it without milk, but I liked it a little more with.

So, in my “Try new companies” tea goal, I’ve ordered a whole bunch of teas from Plum Delux. This is the first one I’ve cracked into it.
This is a good and strong chai, which is exactly the sort of jolt I needed this afternoon. The base and the spices are hanging out well together for this cup, and I enjoyed it, to be sure.

Chai might be my favorite kind of tea. I love the variety of its spices and the bold flavor. Full Moon Chai adds a new twist on chai, adding a splash of vanilla and “butternut” flavoring.

At least my bag of this tea, the cloves are the foremost scent, adding some of their almost-dr.pepper sweetness and spice. Other chai favorites, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, are also present, but more relaxed.

The “butternut” flavor comes off as a touch of butterscotch or toffee. This blend isn’t one of Plum Deluxe’s official dessert teas, but it certainly could be.

The blend of sweetness and spice are wonderful, keeping both my nose and sweet tooth happy with every brew.

Butternut sounds intriguing, for sure! Makes me think butternut squash, though. I’m not sure I would be able to get that association out of my head.

Ever had mashed butternut squash with butter and brown sugar? That’s a bit closer to that caramel/brown butter taste.

This is a strong, true chai to me. It is very heavy on cloves, and very light on the cardamom and cinnamon. (Cinnamon is more evident as it cools, but still evasive.) I suspect it would be great brewed as a chai latte or in milk – on its own as a tea, it’s a bit harsh but passable. I’m not going to give a numerical rating at this time as I suspect it’s very different brewed with milk rather than water – the water brewing, I’d probably give it a 65 as it just doesn’t have a great balance.
