From Mandala Tea

We are so excited about this tea and judging by the repeat buys, our customers are too! It possesses a creamy aroma with hints of coconut, hard toffee candy along with the classic floral undertone present in so many high-end Taiwanese oolongs. The producers aromatize high quality leaves from plants that grow in altitudes between 1,600 and 3,200 feet above sea level.

The Fall 2015 crop delivers the dessert-like notes in early infusions and a beautiful, balanced cup. In later steepings aromas of lilac and gardenia begin to move more forward. Production is an artform and those who create it are quite guarded about proprietary steps in processing. Through many tastings, our appreciation for their craft only increases. No “off” aromas and not a trace of artificial or chemical flavor. It is a wonderfully complex tea, sure to please most any tea drinker. And if they weren’t a tea drinker to begin with, they will be after trying this!

We highly recommend doing one rinse of 5-10 seconds (at 195 degrees) and then beginning with 15-20 second infusions for a bit before slowly increasing steeping time. It is not unusual to get 10 to 15 steepings out of this tea when prepared gongfu cha style.

I got this a couple days and am just now getting around to reviewing it! I am drinking it again this morning and I’m really enjoying it. I ordered two teas from Mandala and they were both winners. This is sooo milky tasting, I added a little sweetener and that brought the milk taste out even more. So far in my exploration of milk oolongs, this is my favorite! I will definitely be ordering from Mandala again, I’m impressed by the quality of the teas and customer service:)

Ooh, I gotta get this! I really want to order something from Mandala Tea but at the same time there’s so many other places I haven’t ordered from yet and that I absolutely want to try out… Just off the top of my head: Butiki, Verdant, Harney & Sons, American Tea Room, and so the list goes on and on!

Kamyria

I so want to order this from Mandala but their shipping to Canada has put me off… I might break down one day and do it anyways… lol

Garret

Hi! Kat! Happy you are enjoying this tea! Thanks for writing up your thoughts!

@Kamyria: we have been shipping to Canadian customers for sometime. We just charge actual usps rates. We never make money on the shipping. We charge for shipping so we don’t have to pad the prices of our teas. There really is no such thing as free shipping as the cost has to be built in somewhere. We’d love to ship you some teas and if there are things that you are wanting, just let us know what and in what amounts. We can then calculate the USPS shipping and get you a quote. As always, you’ll get some samples to try, as well. We have a lot of very happy Canadian customers.

Delicious. It initially has that bit of salty, almost marshy quality the first few milk oolongs I tried had in spades, but it’s very faint, and is quickly overtaken once steeped by a luscious sweet creamy smell and taste that’s wonderful. I’m not quite sure I love it more than the Teavivre one I tried, but it’s wonderful, a creamy warm treat in a cup, and if I wind up loving other Mandala teas enough to place regular orders in the future I’d definitely pick up more of this. Resteeps wonderfully too, of course. I’m such a sucker for sweet, creamy oolongs.

Exceptional! This tea is madness and makes me want to hoard it like a crazy person. Since I have purchased Mandala’s Milk Oolong, I have had no less than 4 cups a day, every day… sometimes more. I think about this tea when I’m not near it. I bring it to and from work in my best air-tight container and coddle it as if contained within lie the answers to mankind’s deepest questions… I think I have a problem.

While not my first foray into the world of oolongs, this was my first experience with a milk oolong and I cannot believe how good this tea is. This hurts my manhood to say, but the aroma and taste is pure butter cream frosting with sweet magical notes of milky carmel taffy and a subtle hint of buttered popcorn. Underlying all this buttery goodness is an exceptionally well balanced oolong base with sweet musky vegetal and floral notes that deliver consistent greatness for a seemingly endless amount of steeps. The first time I brewed this tea, I could smell it on myself for a good 30 minutes after I had finished.

The mouth feel is just perfect and somehow not unlike milk, triggered no doubt by a bit of synesthesia. It almost reminds me of sneaking a bowl of some super awesome sugary kid’s cereal at a friends house that I was otherwise forbidden to have as a young child. Yes, this tea elicits an emotive response.

I will generally do a hybrid (read: less-skilled) gong fu style in a brew cup starting with 30 second infusions and adding roughly 15 seconds. I have yet to reach the end of this tea with up to 8 infusions, which for me is a lot as I tend to prefer longer brew times.

As of right now, this is the best tea I have ever tasted. Easy 100, I cannot stop drinking it! Don’t order too much because I’ll probably panic when the supply gets low.

Sweet magical notes. If that doesn’t sell someone on this tea, then I don’t know what will.

Going through this very fast, partially because I can’t help myself sharing it with everyone I love. Will be ordering more, perhaps this time in bulk!

Sixie

Ordered more… a lot more and have been sharing it with everyone! This tea now sits in my rotation, as a heavy favorite. Every time I take a break from the milk oolong and come back I have that same “its not even fair” moment. Its just not fair… this tea is so damn good!

Finally I got to try this amazing oolong everybody is talking about. It’s not my first milk oolong. I quite enjoyed some from Della Terra and Teavivre. The smell is intoxicating condensed milk and coconut. Tastes sweet, buttery, coconuts. The smell reminded me when my mom used to make ghee. Sweet and savory at the same time. Amazing

Got this as a sample. Thanks!
It’s deliciously sweet and floral and VERY creamy. Creaminess and smoothness are too qualities that I really enjoy in my tea. I would definitely consider buying a larger amount. So far everything from Mandala Tea has been fantastic!

Received this as a free sample a while back, and wrote out a lengthy review on paper. However, said paper went MIA. I waited a while for it to turn back up, but well… it didn’t. (Nothing escapes the gaping maw known as my desk! MWAHAHAHAHAAH!!!) So, here’s what I remember:

It was delicious! Very sweet and creamy with fruit and pastry flavors. what it reminded me of most were the “pasteles de guayaba” that I used to get with my grandparents in downtown Tampa. It’s hard to believe that this tea is unflavored! I love milk oolongs, and this one was very unique. :)

Ok I love oolongs…and I’m desperately trying to love milk oolongs…they sound so delicious in the descriptions…but I feel my pallet may still need training in the art of oolong….oolong is like wine tastings to me. So many notes and flavors unfolding…I’ll get it…

On to this….

It’s easy to like this one…by far the best milk oolong I’ve had. I have been drinking the David’s oolong a while and it just never seemed to make majic tho it is good. This one tho….we have a connection…a deep and emphatic passion.

It’s the sweetest and most buttery tasting one yet, I get the milk, the cream. the sugar, the savory, the oolongs natural vegetal…i mean it really unfolds…caramel…just good.

I made the mistake of leaving it alone too long and it cooled to room temp…Ok I was chasing a 4 year old and probably trying to feed a baby….anyway…

Should I dare say it got BETTER? It was SO sweet and creamy!! IT was like sweetened condensed milk…SO GOOD!

Loving this purchase…we will be in a relationship for the long haul…I can see it.

Garret

May I say thank you for taking the time to write down your thoughts on this tea? Thank you! I am sitting in the tea shop right now and I am sipping this very same tea. I am so happy we have the supplier we do for this tea. It has been a favorite of ours and our customers for a few years now and it makes me happy to see that you are enjoying it, too.

Wishing you nothing but joy,
Garret

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I decided to try this tea, I only knew that it had a very high rating and oolongs are a tea I’ve been wanting to learn and taste more of. From my 1 cup which I have sampled so far, I can tell this tea and I will be getting along just fine. It’s bright, sweet, buttery, and vegetal with soft floral/ fruit notes, complemented by a clean finish. For being on the more “delicate” end of teas, it certainly doesn’t lack in complexity. I’m resteeping the leaves again momentarily to see what other flavors will emerge. Delicious!

Words cannot describe how incredibly surprised I am by this tea. My expectations were set pretty high from what others have said about this milk oolong, but oh my goodness that first sip was just magical. Broke my tea buying hiatus with this order (plus orders from TeaVivre and Verdant), but I think the deliciousness of this makes up for almost all of it.

Yum!
