Another one from dexter! I’m trying to switch over to some of my caffeine free teas on the off chance it decides to bug me tonight. I’ve got a meeting in the morning with a vendor so i need to be on my game!

This one reminds me a lot of the pumpkin rooibos from tealux i think it was. Sadly that also means that it reminds me of melon. For whatever reason it’s like honey dew/cantaloupe sort of melon. Enjoyable but man i miss the pumpkin tea terri sent me haha

Autistic Goblin

well then you need pumpkin chai from David’s Tea or Butiki’s pumpkin tea… Dang it I forgot the name of it…

Sil

Helena – i like butikit’s pumpkin burlee oolong, but david’s tea doesn’t do it for me. the pumpkin tea terri sent me is by far my absolute favourite though. real chunks of dehydrated pumpkin in it, made locally.

Autistic Goblin

Pumpkin Chai isn’t for everyone it’s more of a sweet treat to keep from snacking! Butiki’s pumpkin creme brulee is very good though. I tried a pumpkin spice from Tea Story a local tea shop and it was pretty good. Sometimes you just need that pumpkin fix :D

Sil

Yes! I agree…though now that it’s officially winter here, I’m sure I’ll be moving on to the Chais haha

Autistic Goblin

There should be a way to have your pumpkin and chai too…

Merry Christmas!

It’s midnight so I’m allowed to open my Christmas present! I chose these 12 Days of Christmas teas as my Christmas present from J (as he’s not big on Xmas and this takes the pressure off him, while allowing me to get more tea!)

I thought it would be fun to see how many of these I can drink on Christmas! So here’s the first one! It’s really pretty – you can see all the detail in the pic I uploaded. It doesn’t seem like your regular Pumpkin Pie tea, and I’ve had a few of those…

It doesn’t taste like pumpkin pie – it tastes fruity and light and really refreshing. As it cools a little, the flavours shift – the light flavours remind me of the airiness of pumpkin pie, but it doesn’t have the nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger spices that I expected.

Call me crazy, but it’s almost more lemon meringue than it is pumpkin pie.

I like it though! It’s a nice start to Christmas!

This one smells very interesting. It’s a blend of rooibos, raw pumpkin (almost like it’s been recently scraped out) and spices. The combination doesn’t sound that bad, but it sure does create a rather stinky scent.

Sipping… well, not as bad as I thought it would be. The rooibos and the spices come together quite well. It reminds me a bit of a spice cookie. I detect a little bit of something fruity, but it’s mostly a mystery fruit, nothing specific. There isn’t any pumpkin in sight, but the cup is still tasty. I also like the creamy bit that comes at the end of the sip. It seems to come from the rooibos, almost as if it were a vanilla rooibos base.

I think that pumpkin pie must be a very difficult flavor to create in tea form. I haven’t found a tea blend that has been able to accurately bring that creamy, buttery pumpkin PIE flavor to a cup. The blends have either been too heavy on the spice, strange and without anything resembling pumpkin pie. I’ll continue the hunt, but I’ve lost some faith in finding that perfect pumpkin pie tea.

Dustin

I find most pumpkin teas fail to deliver on the pumpkin pie promise as well. I think most rely too much on the spices to carry the association of pumpkin. I’m also noticing when I cook with pumpkin that it is a very delicate flavor that is easily overtaken by other flavors, and am guessing that plays into the difficulty of showcasing it in a tea.

QueenOfTarts

Dustin, I agree! A majority of the pumpkin pie blends that I’ve had are just pumpkin pie spices. I’ll keep my eye out for other pumpkin pie blends.. haven’t given up yet!

Spoiler alert for those wanting to keep the Herbal Infusions 12 Days of Christmas teas a secret!

This is day two of the 2013 lineup, and I’m a bit leery again of this tea. It has a LOT of ingredients, and of course I can only guess as to what they are. There’s definitely rooibos and cornflowers, and then the rest is a mix of… I don’t know what. Cavo did an excellent job with the pics; there’s something chunky and green, some large form of what looks to be a brown fruit (fig?), and a few other things that meld into the rooibos but aren’t obviously rooibos.

It smells interesting. Hard to explain. Fruity in a deeper, full way – again I think of figs, or something like them. Dates? Maybe even candied yams. Brewed up I didn’t notice the smell, and then had to help my son construct a superhero Lego universe, so this went cold on me.

Cold, it smells like rooibos. Drinking it is… confusing. My interpretation of pumpkin pie is very different than whomever blended this tea. I’m getting more yam pie than anything, with some really unusual flavoring I’m struggling to place. There is something flaky and cakey in the blend, which is nice. I assumed there would be spices in here (cinnamon, nutmeg, something) and I’m getting nothing along those lines.

I’m really unsure what to make of this, so am holding off on my rating.

I don’t know what to think about pumpkin beverages. I recoil at the very idea of the Starbucks pumpkin latte, but apparently it’s their bestseller at this time of year!

This is definitely an interesting interpretation of Pumpkin Pie. This lacks the usual spices one would associate with a pumpkin pie tea. Instead this is fruity. The rooibos is present but there are other flavors such as dates maybe or figs perhaps. I really don’t know what is going on in this cup. It is not bad but I would never have guessed pumpkin pie.

Sipdown (183/185)!

Ugh, this was so good! I’m so pissed that I left the last third of my timolino of it at work today! Stupid armed alarm preventing me from going back and getting it…

By the time I work again, this will have been sitting in the timolino for practically two full days; it’s going to be all gross and icky. No thank you! I want to remember this like the delicious tea it was today; mellow melon/pumpkin guts and a light dusting of “pie crust” – creamy with no unneeded spice. Perfect!

Thanks VariaTEA for the sample, it’s a true shame this is all gone.

VariaTEA

I am glad you liked it and I am sorry it is gone. We will have to watch to see if it comes back Cyber Monday.
