Lemon Herbal

Sipdown no. 28 for the year 2014. I’m counting it as a sipdown because I’m throwing away the sample packet, but I do have a tin of this as well. I think it counts if it means something gets to be thrown away? If I’m cheating, let me know and I won’t count it.

After my epiphany of the other day that it’s okay for me to like I Love Lemon, I feel less urgency about finding a perfect lemon tisane, which is quite liberating. I can just sit back and enjoy this one.

Pretty much everything I said in my first note about this remains accurate on this tasting, particularly with respect to the gentle quality of the lemon. I thought perhaps the bitter note was new, but I see I identified it before. It’s really only at the very first of the sip. By the time it hits the middle, it’s gone, and in the finish, there’s a sweetness to the lemon that does remind me of the aftertaste of a lightly flavored lemon cookie.

I feel very virtuous sipping my lemon while the rest of the family gorges on chicken wings. ;-)

OK then, time for something without caffeine.

After my “I Love Lemon” experience (not), I was a bit daunted by this to say the least…

the particles are very finely ground up here, I should have used a finer strainer since all of the particles settled to the bottom of my infuser mug, it’s a porcelain mug with matching strainer but the holes are sizable.

This is much more mellow than the Bigelow tea, thankfully. It’s lemongrass, lemon rind and lemon flavoring. The color is kind of a dull beige but the flavor is zippy. It isn’t too tart and I could drink it without sweetener. The flavor is nice but I’m not sure how I feel about this tisane. I almost feel that it needs to be blended with something, like a green tea perhaps, to give it a slight amount of body. This also would be a good one to mix with tulsi, so I think I’ll try it that way soon. I found it fairly refreshing, but I’m not blown away. Might be nice iced.

This smells mainly of lemongrass, but once steeped more of a lemon and lemon zest flavour come through. A little zingy (for a unflavored herbal), overall quite a nice cup to wind down with at night.

Poured it out. An entire carafe, iced and sweetened. It was that bad.

Too bitter for me. I tried it iced alone, with Splenda, with more Splenda, and finally with Splenda and cream.

The cream helped with the the bitterness and I did taste the lemon through out but the grassy bitterness really made this an unpleasant tea for me. I think though that is because I prefer a lemon without thee herbs.

Harney’s makes great tea so if you don’t mind the herbs, you might rate this one significantly higher. For me, I Love Lemon would be my go-to blend if I wanted a lemon tea.

Got this as a sample teabag. As other reviewers have noted, it leans to the bitter rather than the sour side of lemon, and the flavor overall is mild next to the punchy lemon offerings of Bigelow or Celestial Seasonings. It’s ok.

this tea bag + honey = nice evening relaxing tea. This is another teabag i took from the hotel lol and i’m glad that i did. It’s nice to be able to try a few more harney teas without committing to a whole tin! this is lemoney and refreshing and mostly just warm and comforting tonight. Clearly i’m crashing a little after 36+ hours on 2 hrs of sleep heh

I’ve been drinking this tea the last few nights. It’s good, but a little underwhelming. I’ve experimented with different steep times and think that it is impossible to oversteep. In fact, I’ve started to leave my tea strainer in for the whole time I drink the tea. Even so, the cup is still a bit watery. One last point, it’s key to use a really fine strainer. The tea is nearly a powder. Even with my finest strainer, the dregs are pretty thick.
