Bake it till you make it.

If you ask us, lemon pound cake is an unbeatable teatime snack. Buttery, tangy and not too sweet, it’s the perfect complement to our favourite cuppa. So, why don’t we have it more often? The answer is all in the name…The traditional recipe calls for a pound of sugar AND a pound of butter. No wonder it tastes so good. Luckily, our version is a little bit lighter – without sacrificing on flavour. We take a base of smooth-drinking oolong, then add fresh lemongrass, fruity lemon and a decadent touch of creaminess. Now that’s a treat you can enjoy all day, every day.

Ingredients: Oolong, lemongrass, lemon peel, sunflower blossom, white hibiscus, natural and artificial poundcake and lemon flavour.

Day 14 DavidsTea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar – Lemon Pound Cake. I made it all of 2 sips into this and gave up. Does it taste " just like a sweet slice of lemon pound cake" as it claims to? Yes, but not any homemade version I’ve ever tried. Maybe some Little Debbie mass produced nightmare of a lemon pound cake. I’ll give it that. But I wouldn’t eat a Little Debbie mass produced nightmare of a lemon pound cake, so I certainly don’t want to drink something mimicking one either. It also has an odd bitterness to it that doesn’t sit well.

If you like having your tastebuds walloped with artifice, sugar and lemon, then by all means go crazy. Me, I couldn’t hack it. Far too many layers of resounding Nope. I like a good dessert-y tea from time to time (emphasis on good), but this one ain’t it. DT keeps doing this to me: lots of fake and too much sweet, all too often.

(One last note: there’s an error on the advent calendar packaging and this is listed as a level 2 for caffeine, but it’s not that. On the DT site it’s listed as level 1, which I do believe to be more accurate.)

Sounds like we had the same experience with this tea. Such a shame because I like lemon.

Advent Calendar 2017, Day 14: I was skeptical of the idea of a lemon pound cake tea – but wow, this really smells and tastes like lemon pound cake. I want this with some lemon cookies. Delightful, refreshing, a dessert in a cup.

Day 14 of the 24 Days of Tea. The name alone makes me want to try it. I’ve read the reviews. Lots of people love this tea. I am not one of them. Maybe if I could smell it I would enjoy it more. But all I got was a sort of muddied, earthy flavor, edged with bitterness. So this one is not my cuppa. I am going to try it again when my sense of smell approves.

Am not as happy this year with the tea advent calendar from DAVID’s. So many of the teas are the same. Next year I may try a different one so I can get more variety.

Ya, does sound like we had a similar experience!

I was chatting with a friend in another country and we thought we might DiY tea advent calendars for each other next year. Nice way to try something we each would not have access to normally and we’d be less at the mercy of whatever DavidsTea wants to promote that season.

Not bad but for lemon flavors I prefer the La La Lemon. The dry tea smells great, but once it is brewed it has a very earthy odor. However, the taste is much better than the smell! The lemon flavor is very delicate, I think the oolong comes through well. It isn’t too sweet, which I like, but is reminiscent of pound cake.

The point of drinking tea instead of eating the cake is not feeling guilty but a piece of Lemon Pound cake sounds wonderful right now. The dry leaf has a magnificent smell. You get all the smells of what an actual lemon pound cake would smell like, well minus the frosting. The leaves are nicely rolled; based on their darkness this looks like a longer oxidized oolong. Definitely can taste some lemon and other citrus flavors. I wish they didn’t put the artificial pound cake flavor in there though… seems cheap.

This tea is so nice to drink. It smells like lemon pound cake, but you don’t taste the cream or butter associated with cake. You really just get a lemon oolong tea, even with a hint of jasmine I would say. I don’t find it bitter at all, and easily drinkable without any milk or sugar. It’s very smooth and even refreshing due to the lemon in it. I prefer mine hot, but can see how it would make a nice lemon iced tea.

I drink David’sTea instead of eating actual cake, and I feel pretty happy between Lemon Pound Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Birthday Cake and Carrot Cupcake (all amazing). Lemon Pound Cake tastes just like lemon infused cake topped with lemon-vanilla glaze, with a hint of gorgeous, vegetal oolong in the background. Yummy.

I’m not typically an oolong fan…but this tea is delicious. It really does smell and taste like lemon pound cake! The lemon is creamy and not overwhelming. It’s a really nice treat for the afternoon when I need a little caffeine kick and want something reminiscent of a sweet treat.

My friend’s little boy loves this tea, and I can see why. Soft, sweet lemon flavor and I get notes of fluffy cake as well. Delicious.

Aww, he has impeccable taste.

Okay I opened this pack and the whiff of lemon kick hit me like I just walked in on someone baking lemon muffins in the oven. In fact that’s exactly how I would describe the taste as a nice yummy lemon muffin.

I hope this is in the permanent collection. If not I hope they add it. Too tasty for it’s own good.

Arby

It is now in the permanent collection!

Autistic Goblin

Well I added it to my wishlist. I just need to drink my stash down a bit before stocking new teas :D

Maddy Barone

That sounds lovely. Years ago I got 50 grams of their Ooh La La Lemon. I didn’t like it. Tlo astringent and bitter no matter how I made it.

Autistic Goblin

I remember having previous lemon teas from DT and being disappointed. I was always looking for a good lemon tea from them and now I have found it.
