From DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock. (MK Kosher)

Price per 50g: $7.50

They had to of changed the formula, unless my tastes completely changed. When I had this tea years ago it was strongly flavored of rum and butter. Now it smells like rum but the rum doesn’t come out for the steeping, and the tea isn’t as thick tasting or buttery. I used to love this one as a latte but it’s too weak for it as is.

I was very tempted to pour a bit of my homemade vanilla infused rum into my cup to compensate. I’ll give it a few more tries, just in case I had a freak steeping or need new parameters.

I recently ordered this, and I agree! It doesn’t taste anything like the old tea. I even emailed David’s about it, but they denied everything, and said I must be steeping it wrong ;(

Oolong Owl

They changed it for sure! Ditto for the Pumpkin Chai and Oh Canada. All the teas I bought from them recently don’t taste like the ones I got previously. Pretty sad, I was hoping when they IPO’d things would stay the same and not cheap out. Even the tins changed, mine’s lid fell apart. :(

Tamarindel

Oh I missed the news on the IPO, but that makes sense. So sad though, they had a good thing going and who’s going to buy a luxury product if it doesn’t taste good?

Oolong Owl

Totally! I gives a market to the smaller tea sellers who use high quality ingredients. I guess like Teavana they just want to attract non tea drinkers who don’t know better. It’s not that the tea is different as well, it just doesn’t even taste good now, everything I got from them is watery and weak.

Tamarindel

Yep, I had 3 teas in my last order, and two of them were off. I’m totally for supporting the smaller tea sellers, but it was nice to go to David’s and feel like you had a 100 wonderful teas to choose from. Oh well, guess I’ll be shopping elsewhere.

Eadig

I recently purchased a new batch as this was on the fond farewells… This doesn’t taste the same as the older formula. Yikes.

Cold-brewed this overnight and I think I like it better cold than hot. :) Can’t really taste much of the base tea, but the flavouring is quite lovely – butterscotch, vanilla, coconut.

This one is tricky. Just enough dry leaf in your spoon and it is sublime coconut butter rum flavour on a gentle black base. The slightest bit of extra leaf in your spoon and it becomes an artificial fiesta. Easy does it.

Still one of my favourite DTs’ blends despite how finicky it can be.

Indigobloom

I always thought I hated this one for that reason… until it was made for me, properly
