From DAVIDsTEA

This fruity organic black tea is our ode to the blueberry. Long before the “superfood” era, blueberries were called “star berries” and renowned for their healing properties. Dark, sweet and plump, their juicy flavour comes through perfectly in cakes, jams – and this satisfying blend of black tea, elderberries, cornflowers and stevia. It’s the perfect companion to your morning toast.

Ingredients
Organic black tea, Organic black currants, Organic elderberries, Organic blueberries, Natural blueberry flavouring, Organic raspberry flavouring, Cornflower petals, Organic stevia extract.

Instructions
1-2 Perfect Spoonfuls of tea
475 ml (16 oz) of 95℃/200℉ water for hot tea or 295 ml (10 oz) for iced
Steep for 3-5 minutes
Sip hot or top with ice for iced tea

Additional notes: This is a sipdown of the batch that Will Work For Tea sent me a while ago because I bought a bit more from Momo. thanks so much to you both!

I am noticing the stevia a bit more, but that might be because it was the last of my sample. I think if stevia works with any tea it would be this one though. I really like it! I wonder if David’s uses the same black tea base for their teas. The base here is a bit weak. I think I have a couple other black teas to try from David’s so we shall see. I really like this one!

Oh how lovely this tea is right now! I just love how juicy it is and how it makes me feel like I should be eating a scone or a sweet croissant with it. This is another one of those transition teas I love. It was nice to have today as it was overcast and cloudy, and this just sorta wrapped warm arms around me saying, it will get better soon. It also said, I am so much better than all that water you drank this morning for the ultrasound, right? Oh man was that ever horrible. I can’t imagine being pregnant and having a full bladder and a baby pressing up against it while the tech pokes and prods with the wand, but I guess for the pregnant woman, the sight and sounds of their baby make up for the torturous discomfort.

Anyway, back to the tea….ahhhh! Yummy, juicy, sweet! I think the funnest thing with this tea is the colour it turns…it is vibrant pinky purple, and when you add the milk, it makes it a purplish tinged colour. Kinda weird, kind cool.

Used up the last of this today, so I will have to pick more up soon.

Kittenna

Ouch! My roomie had one of those lovely full-bladder-ultrasound experiences over the Christmas break. She said it was sheer torture. I’ve been lucky enough to only ever have my legs and chest ultrasound(ed?), which didn’t require anything special of me.

Plunkybug

OMG, yes, just torture! What was worse was the washroom that was connected to the waiting area, with the door WIDE OPEN, like it was just begging me to go. They have to have a full bladder to push the uterus up enough to see inside it properly. I didn’t even drink the full amount of water. They could not have come any later. I was just about ready to convince myself to scrap the appointment and go pee. I had actually gone to the receptionist desk to ask how much longer when I heard my name down the hall and was thanking any supernatural being that might have had some influence on the situation.

tigress_al

Lol, those ultraounds are so uncomfortable. My bladder was so full, it was almost exploding I swear. So they let me go to the bathroom just a tiny bit!

TheTeaFairy

Heather, you reminded me I have a lot of this tea and I kind of forgot about how much I like it, you made me want to brew a big pot of it right now!

Finally getting off my lazy butt to review this. There are only a few more days left before starting my new grad program, so better do this now just in case!

The first couple times I had this, I steeped it for five minutes. The blueberry was there. Very jammy indeed, and the base wasn’t astringent, but the slightest bit of soy milk killed all the other flavours. And without any additives, the blueberry wasn’t as prevalent, especially considering how many blueberries you get. So today I tried six minutes and adding a bit of soy again. The first few sips are bursts of blueberry, truly like blueberry jam.

But after a few more sips, the dreaded stevia shows up. This is the first time trying anything with stevia, I think, but the sensation I’m now getting must be from it because it’s a lot like an aspartame attack. Maybe not as annoying as aspartame, but this is getting too much in the way of the blueberries!

Better than most blueberry blacks I’ve had (whose base is always so astringent, or the blueberry is very artificial, etc). Not my favourite blueberry tea though!

Oooh, I’m so excited for this one! I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time because of all the great reviews here on Steepster.

Starting with the dry leaf aroma, it smells like blueberries and something weird. Maybe it’s the Stevia? Stevia was also in the Ice Cream Cake tea I had yesterday, so maybe that’s the weird aroma here too. But it’s strange because I have some Stevia (Truvia) and when I open the package and smell it, it just smells like cotton candy and caramelized sugar. Either way, the aroma of Ice Cream Cake was waaaay funkier than this Blueberry Jam. So, I think this will be okay.

The brewed tea aroma is a little calmer in the weird department. Now it just smells like blueberries and something super sweet. I guess it really could be the Stevia that’s contributing to that weirdness. The aroma is filling up the room, and I’m definitely getting a warm blueberry jam smell now. Awesome!

That super sweetness is in the beginning of the sip, and then it dissipates and the blueberry takes center stage. This is yummy! The aftertaste is heavenly and pure blueberry jam! That’s definitely the best part, the aftertaste. I’m going to add some skim milk now. Mmm, creamy smooth! Adding milk is interesting because it usually turns the tea an almond brown color. This tea is purple! Hahaha!

The blueberry in this is very strong and kind of overpowers the black tea base. But it’s still delicious! I don’t love it as much as BOO-berry from 52teas, but I also can’t buy any more of that. I agree with others that this would probably be better without the Stevia. It’s just contributing a funky kind of sweetness instead of a pure sweetness. I’m not sure why this is weird because I pretty much use Truvia exclusively and that doesn’t bother me at all. Perhaps it’s that the Stevia has sat with the tea leaves for a long period of time? I don’t know.

Second steep for 8 minutes. The weirdness is gone from the aroma! Hooray! It’s just pure, buttery, blueberry jam now! Yum! I added milk and a tiny bit of sweetener right away before trying it. Ohhhh yeaaah!!! This is the stuff!!!!! That funk is gone, and now it’s perfect!!! Sooo delicious!!! Perseverance pays off!

I thought about buying this but everytime I get something with Stevia in it, I’m not happy. :-/

CHAroma

The first steep was questionable, but I promise the second steep is perfection! You could always steep the leaves for 30 seconds, dump it out, and then do a regular steep.

I actually had a cup of this last night, after Keychange posted her note, but it was so good I made a cup just now:)

Today started amazingly, but no details into that. Lol. The fragrance of this tea is nostalgic really, this blueberry tea reminds me of well you guessed it, Blueberries!! Lol. Growing up in New Orleans we had different types of fruits and actually never had a blueberry before. When I was 10, my family and I took a beautiful family vacation to Boston, not only did I made my dream to go to Harvard, but I had blueberries for the first time! Fresh blueberries picked from the garden! (We were staying at a family friends house) I still remember my reaction to eating blueberries, it was juicy, and sweet, and questioned why is it called blueberries, if it isn’t blue? (Questioning the interior flesh)

Anyways, this tea is definitely tasteful, that isn’t artificial, I steeped it for 5 minutes and any longer could probably ruin the stevia flavor.

TheTeaFairy

I enjoyed reading this :-)

Abby Noelle

Thanks! The memory actually means a lot to me! I might try cold brewing this tea, I’ve never done it before and remembered I read something about it on another post!

TheTeaFairy

I usually simply use a mason jar and let it rest for 12 hours in the fridge. Then I just use a strainer and drink :-) You can sample it after a shorter time and adjust to your own taste. I have cold brewed almost every teas in my own cupboard this way, they almost always turn out delicious plus it’s so easy to make, no hassle! It just requires a bit of your patience. This tea is a great candidate, you don’t have to be scared to leave it for the 12 hours, it wont turn bitter. Let us know how your experience turns out:-)

keychange

This memory sounds lovely. I think I’m going to have this tea tomorrow! You’re right about how fresh it tastes.

Bought this awhile ago, initially loved it, then was put off abit by the strong smell.
Made a big one liter pot in the breville this morning. Added in a bit of extra leaf.

Well, the kitchen smells like blueberries- that is fine! Had the tea with steamed frothed skim milk – it is fine! I think I would like even MORE blueberry flavour…..maybe I will sweeten the next cup and see what I think…..or try an iced latte with some frozen blueberries……yes, that might be tasty…..

JustJames

this is one of my comfort teas after a long day…. i’ve been debating getting a tin and trying it iced, but i am trying so hard to behave with my budget, lol. maybe if it comes on sale… and then depending on shipping costs…

Lilysmom

I’ve had it as an iced latte….pretty yummy…..it was all I could do to not go into Davids today…..wanted to stock up on for iced tea and try the new tea of the month…..resisted, but not sure how long I can hold out……

JustJames

LOL. i caved yesterday and ordered cinnamon swirl bread puerh and a whack of samples from steap shoppe. the shipping was BRUTAL!

Lilysmom

Had never heard of steap shoppe! Now another place I want to order from – the cinnamon swirl bread sounds de-lish!

JustJames

that tea is brilliant but i have been warned that their customer service is rather lacking. so i will be checking my order once it arrives! and be assertive if it is erroneus! LOL

OMGsrsly

Uh oh. The tea of the month looks like it might be amazing iced. Or as a slush. Or a popsicle.

Arggg! I love this tea, and like DavidsTea Banana Oolong – I got to the bottom of my bag of tea, steeped it up and I got a pot full of stevia!

wahhh! Really sucks as I highly recommend this tea for blueberry lovers – I loved Blueberry Jam, bought it a few times. It’s really blueberry and delicious. End of the bag? Not so much. It’s just overly sweet, funky stevia mouth sensation and a pour out. Sigh.

I had to edit this note because this tea has easily become my absolute favorite tea ever. It is filled to the brim with blueberry flavor. Although I have only had this one iced so far, now that the weather is cooling down, I am eager to try this hot. If you like blueberries, you will love this tea :)

Dhart1214

You can absolutely have the rest of the bag !

Someone (dexter) was having this the other day and seeing the note reminded me of this tea and made me miss it. So I went out yesterday and bought some. I’m having it now. I do remember there is a lot more flavour if this is cold steeped but I am impatient by nature so I rarely, very rarely have the foresight to cold steep. Usually when I want things I want them NOW! I definitely fall into the instant gratification camp when it comes to, well, mostly everything. Because, you know, “you can’t take it with you” and “what if that day never comes?”.

There was an article in the Globe and Mail a few weeks back, discussing the two types of people. The “now” and the “later” tribes. It was an interesting read. It started with a scenario like: you’re on the subway platform and it’s crowded. Do you a) leave because the train is obviously not coming or do you b) stay because it’s obviously been a long time therefore the train must be coming.

Yeah. This became so not about this tea. Let’s rectify.

I added sugar. I taste blueberry. I usually have fruit teas cold because I think of juice that way but today wanted more of a blueberry Danish type feel so I added creamer for the first time ever (first time ever for any fruit flavoured tea for that matter). It’s going to be cold again tomorrow, and snow (wtf) so I wanted me some comfort. I’m also having it with blueberry brown sugar with flax cookies (lifestyle selections). The end.

Dexter

B> if there are a lot of people waiting it’s obviously coming soon.

LOL yes I was drinking this the other day (for the first time). I thought it was really, really sweet. I haven’t tried it cold or cold steeped – if I ever buy more of it I’ll have to try it. :))

TeaBrat

my answer is it would probably depend if I was going somewhere important or not. ;)

keychange

I have no idea about the subway platform, but I definitely fall into the instant gratification category. I keep not caring about too far into the future because I think it’s presumptuous to think I’ll live that long (not in like, a suicidal way—I just mean I don’t cling to any notions that I—more so than other people—am going to be the one with a long life). Also I am extremely impatient and want everything yesterday in general. I can’t wait to hang out-we’ll get on swimmingly.

Nxtdoor

Keychange, I think we are dangerously similar. I have a feeling I should leave most of my wallet at home during our meets.

keychange

I’d probably do well to leave mine (mostly) at home also. Although I must always be prepared to pay for…you know..emergencies and stuff. So I couldn’t leave it behind. Because these emergencies…you just never know when they’re going to happen. ;)

mrmopar

Yum for blueberry!

Tea #1 from Traveling Tea Box C

There was only enough of this for one cup, so I snagged it because blueberry tea in pretty much any form is something I end up liking.

There are so many blueberries here! Before I looked closer I initially mistook this for an herbal!

The tea brews up kind of a ruddy browny purpley color that honestly looked better in my cup than the gravity steeper. But the smell was amazing. It smells like blueberry dessert or hot jammy goodness. So good.

I think the smell might have lifted my expectations higher than they would have been otherwise, but this didn’t blow me away. It’s still really good, and the blueberry taste comes through and is delightfully blueberry-y and natural, and there wasn’t a weird stevia aftertaste like I was dreading. The base is simple and inoffensive.

It’s definitely a simple, but solid blend. I’m warming up to David’s little by little.

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec
Nxtdoor

It is so much better cold steeped. I agree, the smell was so heavenly I expected way more than it gave in the end. But since I had 50 grams I had enough to play around. Sadly, it sounds like you don’t have that luxury.

moraiwe

I definitely got the feeling it would be better cold steeped. I could seriously just steep small amounts of this tea and smell it. It’s like gooey blueberry pie filling.
