TIMES CHANGE. OUR TEA DOESN’T.

When I first created this tea, it was to share my love of Spearmint. That was the inspiration to blend handpicked tea from the beautiful tea gardens around the world with American grown Spearmint. Today we continue to hear that this is still the perfect blend, which is why we’re excited to change the name, but of course not the recipe, to better reflect how people feel about my tea. Thank you for continuing to enjoy my special tea – Eunice J. Bigelow

We are excited to share that we changed the name of our tea to Perfectly Mint which better reflects the perfect blend of American grown mint and tea.

Feeling like the market needed a refreshing mint tea, Eunice Bigelow took to the kitchen to create one of her first blends for the company. She started with a rich, flavorful black tea and then blended just the right amount of spearmint. One sip and you will see Perfectly Mint is clean and smooth with the perfect mint finish!

Ingredients: black tea, spearmint

Taste Profile: Strong refreshing spearmint with underlying mild smoky notes
Aroma: Enveloping aroma of soothing spearmint
Liquor: Dark amber
Recommended Temperature: 208º F

STEEPING INSTRUCTIONS
Be sure to start with fresh cold water and bring to a rolling boil. Pour over tea bag, steep for 4 minutes (or whatever time you like), remove bag (but no squeezing please!).

For Iced Tea by the Glass: Steep a little longer. Pour over ice.

Wow. The mint here definitely packs a wallop—a very strong, crisp, cooling mint flavor. No hint of the taste of black tea—it’s completely masked—not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. This will wake you up!

I love this tea. In fact, this tea alone turned me from a coffee person to a coffee-and-tea person! I love spearmint and the spearmint is the most pronounced flavor and scent. The black tea gives it a nice earthiness that blends perfectly with the sweet and cool spearmint. I’ve only had it hot but I can imagine that this would make a beautiful iced tea.

This was my mum’s favorite tea, so I didn’t get to taste it all that often. I used to steal a sip every once in a while, and was always astounded by the freshness in it. I knew it only as spearmint, not aware of it containing black and spearmint, because I never read the labels on the box.
My mom doesn’t buy it anymore, bent on spending less money, which is why my favorite brands of tea are lost to the ages, but she does still buy tea. A lot.
And spearmint is one of the types that I drink the most, surpassing even my green tea drinking. It’s our favorite tea, but I could never say no to a good cup of green, black, or chamomile.
I should write a review for spearmint alone, but my childish mind kept no track of what this one tasted like, other than the refreshing-ness.

I’m very glad to see that Bigelow decided to change the name of their Plantation Mint blend to Perfectly Mint. My bags still have the old name, but I’ve updated Steepster to reflect the change. Well, except for the pictures; I can’t change those. Having this with some blueberry pancakes for a late breakfast, but I don’t really like pancakes so I’m about to ditch for some pimento cheese or something. Oh yeah.

This tea is pretty straightforward. The spearmint flavor is obvious and proud, but it balances nicely with the black tea base. Mint on its own isn’t my favorite, more of a sick-time tea, but I like it mixed with black tea. I’ll up my rating a bit on this one. I may or may not buy it again, but I’ll definitely enjoy what I have left.

I tried to change the picture, and the new one is showing up in the edit page but not on the saved page. Weird :/

Thank you for trying!

Don’t? Like? Pancakes?!?!

Shae

Yep, I hate how they get soggy when just a little syrup touches them and I’d much rather have a crunchy waffle – all that butter tucked into the little waffle pockets. I LOVE waffles. But my husband likes pancakes so once every couple years or so I indulge him. :)

ashmanra

Shae – BUTTER IN WAFFLE POCKETS YAAAAAAASSSS!!!!! I did love it when my mother made me silver dollar pancakes as a child, though! I think they don’t get soggy because they are so tiny that they are all gone before they can sit in syrup very long! I haven’t made pancakes in years, but I am really tempted to gave waffles for supper now,,,

tea-sipper

Do it, ashmanra! Waffles for supper!

ashmanra

tea-sipper: I did! Ha ha!

Shae

Come to think of it, I do like the tiny pancakes best! There’s something so fun about having breakfast for dinner. It’s like a small rebellion. Did the waffles turn out as good as you’d hoped?

ashmanra

Shae: Absolutely! And I made bacon to go with them, to cut the sweetness of the maple syrup! Yummy!

It’s hard for me to find a BLACK mint tea that really hits the spot—I like a strong, crisp mint flavor—but this does it for me. The mint is clearly spearmint, so if that’s not a mint you like, steer clear of this. It’s really, really refreshing on ice.

I don’t mind the taste, but wish the smell wasn’t super strong.

Hello Steepster. Sorry I’ve been absent. Its not been my intention. I’m just very busy, and a little ill. My stomach is really choosy right now, making me loose my appetite, and not wanting more than a few bites. I didn’t want to try my usually beloved black tea, this morning, so my boyfriend rummaged and found some mint tea for me.
Good old mint tea. Does wonders for a jumpy stomach, and always makes me calmer. Its powerful stuff.

Probably the best blend I’ve encountered from Bigelow. Their herbals are too hibiscus-heavy, and their chais are weak— the astringent black base overpowers them. This one is perfectly balanced and reliable. I like the subtle earth notes and the cleanness of the mint.

That being said, I probably won’t restock it once it’s gone, which after tomorrow, it will be. It was pleasant enough, but not worthy of a permanent status in my cupboard. Onward!

The first time I ever tried this tea I was not impressed at all. The taste reminded me of the smell “eau de gym sock”. I avoided mint tea for the longest time after that, until I tried Moroccan mint a couple of years ago. Loving that, I bought a fresh boxc of Plantation mint to give it another go, and found it to be quite pleasant the second time around. Not an everyday go-to tea, by any means, but nice. I think that initial tea bag wayyyyy back when must of have just been ancient. I probably won’t restock this one, either, but I am glad I tried it again.

Lol “eau de gym sock.” Yeah, unfortunately I mostly end up settling for bagged teas during the week because they’re just easier to make at work. This one was just “tolerable” but decidedly not “fabulous.” I had to double-bag it to get a drinkable cuppa out of it.

Haley Dee

Your evaluation of Bigelow tea’s is spot on! I think Bigelow is generally the bottom of the barrel, haven’t tried this one but I’m weary of mint in general

teaqueen

Me too. Mint is overused.

My first sip of this tea was a bit disappointing; it tasted like I’d made a spearmint tisane. The underlying black tea was very weak. After “over steeping” it, however, I found that I had a smooth cup of black tea with the refreshing taste of spearmint. :)

The second steeping is much more black tea. There is just enough mint to have a nice refreshing tingle in the aftertaste.

Um…this tea is okay, but it always reminds me of being sick. Its a little too much spearmint and not enough other flavors.
