From Adagio Teas

Yunnan Gold black tea (also known as Dian Hong) is easily identified by its abundance of soft golden tips, and savory cocoa and black pepper flavors. This artisan tea hails from the Yunnan province of China, the birthplace of tea itself. Our high-grade Yunnan Gold is milk chocolate creamy and sweet, with pleasant pepper notes. The flavor becomes earthier and more layered as it cools. Soft, rounded cup, silky and perfect. It is also a very forgiving tea and will not taste bitter when over-steeped. Allowed to take only one tea to a desert island, this “golden” Yunnan would be our clear choice.

NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS FOR A PITCHER OF ICED TEA not the hot!

well, i should have noticed everyone talking about how not strong this tea is – 3 tsp steeped overnight in a pitcher of water in the fridge SHOULD have made a lovely strong brown frosty tea for today’s overbearing heat (106 heat index!! UGH). it instead made a lovely light brown flavored water. lots of sugar lovelied it up, but i guess i just learned a lesson about Yunnan Gold and iced tea, that is, NO.

i shall save the remainder of my sample for when i’m in the mood for a nice HOT yunnan gold, and treat it thusly.

I enjoy this – it is malty and bready and I felt like it had a sweetness, possibly even chocolatey lean. Too bad my cats chose to knock my mug over and I will now be wearing it to work as well.

The first time I tried this it came out bitter. I gave it the benefit of the doubt by assuming that was probably because I had followed Adagio’s deficient brewing instructions, which say to use boiling water. The next time I tried it I used pre-boiling water (probably 180-190F; I’m really just guessing though) and it’s pretty heavenly and not bitter at all. It tastes a lot more like it smells, too, like sunshine on fields and fresh sweet grass hay and all the best hints of wonderfully oxidized tea leaves.

Not bad. Meaty. Vaguely reminds me of soy sauce. Sweet finish.

I was expecting more flavor. This tea is just kind of ….there. Drinkable but not memorable. Will drink down but not repurchase.

I really wish I tasted some of that pepper from the description.

This was brewed using boiling water for 6 min. The tea smells great before and after steeping, but it has a sharp taste that I don’t appreciate.

I try to drink tea without sugar or milk, but it may be needed here. Toward the end of the cup, I started eating a red bean cake, and the sweetness of the cake gave the tea a nicer effect.

Next time, I will add a little rock sugar and see how that goes.

A very refreshing tea. It has an interesting flavor that I don’t come across too often.

It’s… dare I say it… very very weak. I used 2 heaped teaspoons in a 350ml cup, and it honestly tastes of water.

Anyone have any idea why? I have a 45g bag, which ran me 11 euro, and I don’t want to put it to waste.

Clean, buttery, smooth and silky come to mind with earth tones toward the end. Great black tea from the Adaigo sample set.
