From Adagio Teas

Premium white tea from Fujian region of China with sweetly tangy flavor of tangerines. A wonderfully smooth and subtle treat, delectable both hot and cold. If you’re new to white tea, this would be a good place to start.

Ingredients: White tea, orange peels, natural mandarin flavor

Steeping instructions: 2 heaping teaspoons per cup, 3-5 minutes at 180F

I can’t honestly say that I enjoyed this very much. The sweetness that I was expecting wasn’t there, and it tasted a bit too vegetal for my liking. I tasted way more of the white tea than the tangerine, which I hardly tasted at all. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing (especially if you like white tea like I do), but if you’re wanting a tangerine white, than I wouldn’t recommend this. On the bright side though, it doesn’t have any aftertaste because it is such a light tea.

Even though I only steeped it for just over 2 minutes, my mouth was left feeling curiously (and annoyingly) dry. I can’t think of why that would be, since I didn’t oversteep.

This is another one that I’d be willing to trade or give away if nobody takes me up on the offer.

So I’m not sure if I’ve ever eaten a tangerine before but I know what the flavor is and this tea has it. It follows suite with the other Adagio white teas I’ve tried thus far, a light tea with subtle hints of the fruit in it. I also lowered it’s recommended steep time of 7mins to 5mins per reccomendations of fellow steepersters.

Another winner from Adagio, I am drinking this as I post … lightly floral and relaxing at bedtime. I pour my first cup, and then let it steep a bit longer and add it to my cup, I like the differences between the lighter steep and then the darker notes… I let it cool pretty far and don’t mind at all at room temp.

Light tea that I drink at night to relax me before bed. It doesn’t have a strong tangerine taste, but the hint of flavor is the best!

I really love orange. Its one of my favorite flavors. And while this tea is called “White Tangerine”, its ingredients list show all orange.

Also, having fallen in love with Adagio’s White Grapefruit (2nd favorite citrus), I thought I really needed to give this a try.

This has a lovely mouth feel. But flavor wise, there’s just not much of anything. I feel like it could really use some of the zest or the essential oils from the zest.

The tea base itself isn’t bad. I’m sure its nothing to write home about, but its something that I can drink without any complaints.

I had had Tangerine White from Republic of Tea (which I could no longer find online last time I tried) and The Capsoul. Both were great. Wish I could get them again.

Like most white teas… I find this flavorless. Smells good though

Adventaggedon Day Fifteen – 6/6

I said it earlier in the advent but, when it comes to Adagio, in general I’m a fan of this style of singularly flavoured white tea. I do find this one loses flavour possibly the fastest with age, of the ones I’ve tried. I have a cup or two worth of it in my stash that’s getting pretty old and it’s still enjoying but definitely very different from when I purchased it. This cup, however, was noticeably fresher with a really delicious bright tangerine flavour that was really quite pleasant to start the day with. Felt so lively and energetic!

It looks like Revolution has stopped selling their Tangerine White to the public again. And I can’t find The Capsoul locally anymore. Might have to try this one when I start craving a tangerine white again.

This is one of the few Adagio white teas that wasn’t from the Meowster cupboard de-stash that I snatched up… I think I got it from my very first Adagio order, making it a very old tea. It is an opened packet, so I must have tried it at some point, but I haven’t recorded it here yet… I used the remainder of the sample to make a quart of cold-brewed iced tea.

Honestly, this reminds me of TeaSource’s Green Tea with Mandarin Orange, having that brisk though somewhat artificial-tasting orange flavor. This is the sort of tea I actually prefer iced, and it is pretty refreshing that way… the flavoring just presents better that way to my palate that way. Since this is on a white tea base rather than a green tea base like the other tea I’m familiar with, rather than grassy it has more of a hay flavor, and a very subtle note of melon. The orange itself isn’t too strong/overbearing, but that could be just the age of my sample now… personally I prefer it that way. It’s more subtle/less citrusy and the white tea is allowed to shine through a little more. I have a feeling that probably isn’t how it usually is, though.

I really enjoyed this tea, particularly iced. The flavors are very well balanced, and I found it to be very refreshing, though not super tangerine-flavored.
