Yumminess… I had forgotten just how tasty this tea is. I need to figure out how I can keep myself from going through my tin of this too quickly… Increasing the rating…

Yesterday I went ice skating to actually train (not just coach) for the first time in about a year. I found out two important things: One that I can still skate and pull of my jumps and spins and two that not skating for a year and then putting on your skates will result in many painful blisters. Also, I woke up this morning with my entire body aching. I either have to do this more often or never again… hahaha… To ease my aching muscles, this tea came to the rescue.

I love the sprinkles in this tea. The colors make me smile. The buttery vanilla scent (both in the dry leaves and even more so in the steeped tea) is incredibly seducing and I seem to always give in. With a little bit of sweetener, this tea never fails me. It is instant smiles in a cup.

Sadly, while I am smiling and content, my body still feels like I fell out of the window of a five story building… Argh… Why do I love ice skating so much that I am willing to put up with this!?!?! Silly me… : ) At least I get birthday Cake Tea!

Cheryl

I vote for “more often” (since you just admitted loving it) : )

Ninavampi

: ) I think that I might have to. Thanks for the vote!

K S

Keep skating. If you stop you’ll end up like the rest of us. We bundle trips to the bathroom with trips to the fridge because its too far to walk if done separately.

Ninavampi

K S you made me laugh out loud… OK, I will keep up the skating and try to avoid your handy suggestion of wasting fewer calories by economizing footsteps… : )

Cheryl

Shhhhh K S … don’t scare her about getting old
That made me lol too.

gmathis

Preach on, K S … Unlike Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, holding still and muttering, “I am the master of my own bladder” does not work.

K S

Oh wow.. Sheldon… the little Spock episode had m crying it was so funny. And they drink a lot of tea. Not good tea but it is tea.

Kittenna

Bahaha, just watched the little Spock episode. Love that show!

K S – also highly amused at your earlier comment :D

Bonnie

I understand your pain! I trained for the Olympics as a shot putter when I was young (16-27 even after having kids). Had an injury that put me out. When I was in my late 30’s early 40’s I coached guys and girls highschool weights and throwing and as a coach you demo…ha, ha, ha…what a show off I was…till I could not lift my arms above my waist! Stupid me! Sore and feeling really bad! Now I can’t do any weight exercise because of the fibromyalgia and I used to bench press 250 lbs.! Humbleing! (You never know what old people used to do when you look at them do you!)

Indigobloom

Oh man, I feel your pain… when I did squats for the first time (properly that is) a few weeks ago, I thought I was going to permanently walk like a penguin! so sore…
So I second everyone else, continue skating! keep up with the things that bring you joy :)

K S

I was just reading some of the comments to my wife. She called us dorks… Is that a bad thing?

Indigobloom

I’m proud to be a dork! :P

Ninavampi

Hahaha… K S, as far as I know being a tea dork is a good thing! ; ) Please do thank your wife for the complement! : D Tea Dorks join forces! I agree with Indigobloom, I am also proud to be a dork!

Bonnie- Wow… That’s amazing! I know how much a sport is missed… I won nationals (Ecuador Nationals that is…) quite a few years ago, but then had to quit because I had hairline fractures in both of my legs and it got to the point where it hurt all the time. I will always miss it at a competitive level… My Grandma also is an amazing woman, being older by no means equates to being older or untalented!

Indigobloom

YES!!! Dorks unite!! :P

TheTeaFairy

You poeple are just wonderful! Love all your comments :)

SimpliciTEA

I’ll throw my hat into this ring (as a dork, that is)!

CHAroma

Ninavampi, I know exactly what you’re talking about! I love horseback riding but hadn’t ridden in a while. I stupidly went out for a 5 hour trail ride and then woke up the next day and was surprised that I didn’t feel bad. So, I went riding again. The next day, I literally could not walk. At all. For an entire week. I’m not joking! I had to crawl around and call out of work. Stupid stupid me. Hahaha! So yeah, don’t wait too long between skating and definitely don’t skate 2 days in a row if it’s been a while. ;)

Ninavampi

Thanks for the excellent advice… I believe I have learned my lesson!

I add a decent amount of milk and sugar to this – it makes it a very dessert-y tea, but honestly, it’s called birthday tea – it should be dessert-y. Without milk and sugar, it’s just kind of fine, whatever. But with? Vanilla icing. Mmm.

Hey, sometimes you gotta have the tea equivalent of junk food.

i always accidentally overbrew this one. ok, maybe not accident. maybe i should stop generically brewing EVERY tea for 5 minutes.. haha…

Auggy

Hehe – yeah, for me anything over 4 minutes is… bitterly thick or something like that. Not so good.

Started my day off with this because hey, it’s my birthday, I do what I want. Adagio kindly included it as a sample with my last order, so that was exciting.

The dry leaves smell like vanilla cake, but I can smell the flavoring. Steeped 1tsp/8oz/212/2minutes; added a bit of milk and sugar.

The flavor is surprisingly light, but it’s still a decent tea. Not my favorite though… I think I’ll be celebrating for reals with a fancy oolong later on!

Adagio sent me this in my most recent order because my birthday is right around the corner. I previously bought this and had the worst time with it. So I’m hoping now things might be better.

So far I can confirm NOPE. Let the water cool, steeped it for 2 min, 45 seconds, and added milk and it’s still a tasteless, slightly bitter black tea.

However, this tea is saved by Nonna’s Biscotti…they have salted caramel and chocolate biscotti! SO GOOD. I dipped it into the tea so it added a decent flavor to the biscotti. And so in turn I’m hoping it makes the tea tasty.

It did not help. I really do not like this tea.

Claire

I’ve had really bad luck with Adagio’s teas for some reason. I keep wondering if I’m doing something wrong with them.

Kittenna

Nope. They’re just not great teas. :P

TeaLady441

Hmm. That’s too bad! I was curious because they had all those fandom names ones: http://www.adagio.com/signature_blend/fandoms.html?SID=1a57716d82354d50b740518e7ef69a9a They’re basically asking me to throw all my money at them with that sorta thing, except… there are too many fandoms for me to choose…

TeaLady441

Hmmm… looks like the fandom ones are marked up quite a bit. Guess that makes it easier to avoid too!

KeenTeaThyme

It’s not you, it’s Adagio. Their black teas, and flavored black teas, can be really nasty. I’ve mixed this with my own vanilla extract and sprinkles…and some sugar. Anything to combat that bitter black tea aftertaste.

Auggy

For me, I’ve found that I enjoy their flavored black teas only with a generous scoop of sugar and dollop of cream. Without additives, yeah not so much.

clockwork-faerie

Really? I’ve mainly had good luck with Adagio. Teavana and David’s Teas however, which I notice most of the populus of this site creams themselves over, have been consistently mediocre-to-bad as well as overpriced. Guess the Steepster community thinks a higher price means better tea.

OMG! Rachel spoiled me with a HUGE Sample Bags worth of stuff!!!! Thank so much, girl!!! This is the first one I am trying. It’s been on my TO-TRY LIST for EVER. This definitely smells like the FROSTING of a cupcake or cake. YUM.

Let’s see what it tastes like now…

It’s a medium strength type black tea taste with a vanilla/cream taste to it. As it cools a bit I am liking it better but not sure about actual cold tea or iced tea tho. It’s ok. I always have to try novelty teas and blends regardless…soooo glad I got to try this – thanks Rachel!

Preparation

Cofftea

I’m a sucker for novelty too:)

Auggy

I know you don’t add stuff to your tea but just in case, this one really does taste more desserty with some sugar and milk.

TeaEqualsBliss

Auggy – I was totally considering it…just from the reviews. I have enough for a cup still – might have to try it. :)

Cofftea

Coffee creamer might be a nice touch too:)

TeaEqualsBliss

Um…yes…liking this one as it cools, better…creamy, ahhh…I want to eat the sprinkles tho…lol…

Cofftea

How about topping it (once steeped) w/ whipped cream and sprinkles?

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

You’re welcome, I simply have more tea than any human that doesn’t own a tea company of garden ever should and if I can spread a little happiness I would be my pleasure. Glad you are enjoying an early X-Mas :o)

I grabbed a pouch of this tea in my last Adagio order. I’m liking this cup today, but a bit less than my first few. My pouch had no sprinkles in it.. C’mon Adagio! So I added my own rainbow variety (perhaps a bit too many). I’m also learning that Adagio’s black tea is strong and drying even with a short steep time. A 3 and 1/2 minute steep is too drying for my mouth, so I’m sticking between 2-2 and 1/2 minutes.

Well, I’m FINALLY making myself try this tea that I got from Adagio last month on my birthday- isn’t that sweet? How come every time I make a flavored black it comes out so much stronger than other leaves. I mean I don’t even know if you can call these pellets leaves but boy do they bring on the bold! I topped it off with some reddi whip and I’m all ready to party now lemme tell ya! WoooHoooo! Yes, it’s stronger than I like but a more refined version of this may taste just right for a dessert tea. The more sips I take the more bland I taste the flavors – definitely one dimensional and no notes coming from these teas! But its sweet and hot and possibly in need of a splash of milk. Yeah thats what it needs.. Are these blacks strangely stronger than breakfast teas and assams?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

silvermage2000

kat

Thanks guys um yeah I have some left if u want to try it-lets keep this par-tea going! Woohooo. Ok I’ll stop.

Cofftea

I’ll take some too:)

silvermage2000

Please may I have some do you need any tea in return please email me and I will respond back at silvermage2000@yahoo.com

kat

OK my girlfriend just walked into the room and called dibs on whats left in the little sample tin….sorry! Gotta make the wife happy guys. There really is not much to even send after she tried it – and I thought mine was STRONG, jeez, she’s got petro oil with some sprinkles in hers lol What can u expect though from a coffee press/triple espresso fiend, right? haha I love ya anyway honey!

silvermage2000

Ah thanks anyway.

Auggy

Don’t quote me on this, but I would guess that since flavored teas are usually lower quality leaves when compared to unflavored teas, it’s possible those in this one are smaller and a bit more broken than an unflavored tea. That would help it have a stronger, possibly bitter taste, even with a shorter steep time. Just a guess though, not a real answer. :)

kat

Auggy, would the caffeine be higher you think?

Cofftea

@kat- the smaller the leaf, the more leaf in a given measurement whether it’s by amount (i.e. teaspoon) or weight, and the more the more leaf the higher the caffeine so yes.

kat

ok good to know

Auggy

I have always been told that tannins and caffeine kind of go hand in hand, so the faster something gets bitter when steeping, the faster the caffeine can get into the water so more caffeine in a shorter steep. I think it has to do with how much surface area of the leaf is in contact with the water…

Happy Thanksgiving!

Had this for breakfast… err brunch. I slept in today. My boyfriend and I drove 3 hours away for my interview and came back last night. I have several more residency interviews to go, but I think I have found my top choice :) Anyway, this tea was great! Put some additives in there. Some sweet cakey goodness.

Thanks Tegan for thie sample of Birthday Tea!
I thought today was a good day to celebrate! I went with fear and trembling to pick up my Tax Return…ugh…knowing that I would likely owe a bundle this year. My Tax lady said “You don’t owe anything.” Are you positive?!"said I. “Yes, we get it right, I’m sure!” she said. Wow! Unreal! But, as I drove home something just didn’t seem right. I went over my return at home where I discovered the BIG error… she had failed to record the large IRA withdrawal from when I moved to Colorado and bought my condo and paid off my car and credit cards to qualify for the load in January 2011. Oh No! So I called and this will be corrected and I will pay Big Tax Bucks! Now what to do? Be mad or be sad? Nah, make some tea. Make some tea and review it. Pick a good name like Birthday Tea. (It’s not that great a tea really…too one dimensional… vanilla and that’s it). Some tea review huh. Tea review and life lesson review. I have too much to be greatful for. Not much money but lots and lots of tea! I love the tea people I have contact with also.

Indigobloom

Oh dear, taxes… they will be the end of us! Sorry to hear about your bill :(
I wonder if you can write tea off as a business expense :P

Indigobloom

(or health? I think we can do that in Canada, not sure about the US)

Bonnie

I wouldn’t owe any Tax then!

Indigobloom

Well only on certain items when they aren’t covered under benefits, and there is a limit… $500 I think so not that much comparatively. Ahhh but it is nice to dream! :)

K S

I like your attitude.

Bonnie

Thanks, I’m watching biggest loser and eating chocolate chips …ok…nothin wrong with that huh?!

ashmanra

LOL, Bonnie!

Indigobloom

chocolate chips… without tea?!? ;)

Thank you so much to RICKY for sending me a sample of this tea. It’s sort of “meh”. The sprinkles are a nice touch, but they are a superficial bauble. The tea itself is too “generic black” to get me really interested—but it’s not a weak black. I think that the overtones of vanilla are a little too muted for me to appreciate them. Ditto with the caramel.

It’s a personable tea and a nice idea, but I don’t feel tempted to purchase it.

Preparation

Believe it or not…I still haven’t tried this one!

threewhales

Ok, it is just not me. Ricky sent me a sample of this too! I totally agree with your review Doulton! I tried adding milk and sugar and still just Bleh…

Ewa

I just want to say that the phrase “superficial bauble” is awesome.

Ricky

I agree too! But I had to get it since it was Adagio’s signature blend =P

I had to see what the commotion was all about. Sprinkles are fun =P
