Tea of the Week for September 27, 2021!

A Chinese Sencha base with apples, some spices – cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg & a little bit of clove – & a hint of honey essence (don’t worry, it’s vegan!)

This cuppa tastes a bit like mulled apple & honey cider (more apple than honey!) – plus tea!

It’s organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!

more about this tea: It’s that time of year again! My favorite season of the year is fall – I love just about everything about it. The changing of the colors – the leaves change from their vivid green to beautiful shades of yellow, orange & red before the fall to the ground. I love the temperature change & especially after this past summer when we had some absurdly high temperatures here in the Pacific Northwest – I’m ready for some cooler weather!

But the thing I think I love most is the FLAVORS of fall – like pumpkin, apple & the warmth of chai spices. The only thing that makes those flavors taste better to me – is to enjoy them with TEA!

This fall inspired tea starts with a Chinese Sencha base – which I selected for this blend because of its sweet flavor – it’s light, crisp & refreshing. Then I added some apples (fuji & granny smith – I used both air-dried & freeze-dried apples in this) as well as some spices: cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg & a little bit of clove. Finally, I added a hint of honey essence (don’t worry, it’s vegan!)

The result is a cuppa that tastes a bit like a cup of mulled apple & honey cider (more apple than honey!) – plus tea! It’s a wonderful flavor combination that dances on the palate. Just sipping this makes me smile – reminding me that it is finally fall! It’s organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!

organic ingredients: green tea, apples, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch well before you measure to make sure the spices redistribute throughout the tea. use 3g of leaf & spice to 12oz of very hot water (175°F) & steep for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before you start sipping.

serving suggestion: a small amount of sugar (about ½ a teaspoon) will encourage the spice notes to shine through – it tastes good without the sugar, but it will taste a little bit more like “fall” if you add the sweetener.

I wanted a green tea this morning considering the day (Happy St. Paddy’s! It’s my turn in the March Steepster Birthday Madness today. Happy birthday to all the rest of you tea-drinking March babies!)

The dry leaf smelled fruity and spicy and hit that certain mix of fruit and spice that read to my nose as bubblegum (which is not a bad thing for me, I love pink bubblegum aroma and flavor). The aroma from the brewed tea doesn’t quite it that, though… the apple comes out more and it smells like baked sweet cinnamon apples.

I get the apple cider reference… the flavor is appley with a hint of tartness (I could do with even more bite, but my favorite apples are tart green varieties) and I can pick out the cinnamon and allspice (oddly enough, not the clove) adding a very mild and gentle spice. Some sips I get that bubblegum effect, but it is fleeting and doesn’t happen every sip. There is a nice grassy green undertone that works well with the flavors. Very enjoyable cuppa!

Thanks to amandastory516 for this one! This was from before I became a subscriber, so I’m happy to get the chance to try it! I steeped this for a shorter time than recommended, but even so, it ended up a bit bitter. I feel like my first few sips were fruity and mildly spiced, but then the bitterness built, and the other flavors unfortunately took a back seat. I had this twice, and though I enjoyed the flavor direction, I’d prefer it with a different green base.

I bought this tea based on the autumnal description. I agree with the creator’s love of fall and the smells and flavors evoked. I can say yes, I liked this tea—tho it smells rather different than it tastes.
Sniffing the packet of tea, it’s quite perfumy. It took me awhile, tasting it, trying to determine just what it reminded me of. Then I realized it was light and sweet, like…baby powder! No doubt that’s the honey flavor. The spices are definitely next in the taste sensation. There is a slight whiff of cider vinegar.
It is definitely a group of flavors which evoke the beginning of autumn. It’s early August right now, when the ripeness of summer is hinting at the changes to come. I liked this tea because it did remind me of autumn coming. But I’m ambivalent; I didn’t like it enough to recommend it strongly. So I recommend it gently.
Do try it; make up your own mind. It is enjoyable, but very mild.

(52teas (Anne) 2022: 28)

Although I love “green apple”/tart apple flavouring, I don’t tend to care much for apple teas in general, so wasn’t too stoked about this one. However, the honey flavouring adds a nice touch of interest – it seems like the same or a similar flavouring to that used by A Quarter to Tea, although at a bit of a better level (I found the AQTT teas with this flavouring to be a bit cloying). I only really taste the cider spicing at the end of the sip – it seems quite light. Overall, an interesting tea, though not a favourite.
