Tea of the Week for May 22, 2017!

Oh! My! Goodness! This is good stuff!

I had planned on making this particular blend a couple of months ago – but I didn’t have everything I needed to complete the tea so I scrapped it and instead made the Strawberry Genmaicha which went over quite well too.

But this tea was definitely worth the wait! This is so yummy!

It is sweet – obviously – after all, it is a cotton candy tea. It’s supposed to be sweet. So if a sweet tasting tea isn’t your thing, this isn’t a tea that I’d recommend for you. For the rest of you – you’ve got to try this!

I started with organic Matcha infused Genmaicha and blended it with natural flavors, then I added some amaranth petals and some purple heart shaped candy sprinkles. I don’t often add candy sprinkles to tea – in fact, I’m usually opposed to it because I like to decide if I want sugar in my tea or not. But since this IS a cotton candy tea, I thought it would be an acceptable addition for this tea (don’t worry, they’re vegan and gluten-free sprinkles!)

The result is a seriously tasty tea – and I don’t think that this one is going to be sticking around very long so you should grab a pouch now!

I do recommend tasting before you sweeten (if you’re one of those who chooses to sweeten automatically before you taste the tea) because as I said, it is naturally sweet and the sprinkles do add some sugar. Not a lot, but some.

organic ingredients: green teas, popped rice, amaranth petals & natural flavors

ingredients: vegan gluten-free candy sprinkles (sugar, potato starch, vegetable fat, maltodextrin, spirulina extract & color.)

This is a really solid genmaicha, but I didn’t taste any cotton candy/fruit/sugar notes.

Not bad – tasted some cotton candy, but wanted more. It was a bit overpowered by the toasted rice. Will chalk that up to age, though.

Today was my first exam and it was a shitshow. Now I’m no stranger to walking out of an exam and feeling like I failed but that was in undergrad when I never went to class or did a reading and basically expected to fail.

This course is actually the one I was most comfortable with for this exam term. I knew the info so well that people actually sought me out to answer their questions and I explained the course to multiple people. So walking out of this exam and feeling like I failed was crushing. I basically felt like if I was going to do badly like I did in undergrad anyways than why stress about studying. Obviously I know I need to study so I compromised (probably to my detriment) and took the evening off.

I also treated myself to a fancy milkshake and a meal. The meal ended up being bad since London isnt the best food city (especially coming from Toronto and Montreal) and it was expensive and just not great. However, my Squish order arrived today so things are looking up!

So now I have squish, drag race all stars, and this tea. Things are looking up.

I’m so sorry about the exam. Hugs.

Don’t stress about it. If you were as prepared for it, it’s very possible that it was a test designed to “fail” people and give them a shake up. Wouldn’t be the first time profs do it, won’t be the last. Either way, it’s over and you can focus on your other exams. You got this!

The day before the exam my prof told us that when he was going through old exams he realized they were asked to do a lot less with simpler facts and they were given more time. He said by the time he realized that, it was too late to change the exam and we’d all be in the same boat. It’s just frustrating because I keep thinking of things I know I wrote that was wrong or didn’t write so its incoherent.

It’s also possible that your answers were not as out there as you now imagine. And also possible that your prof will liberally apply generosity in marking, is. You cannot fail a whole class. Also, hugs.

So sorry. We have all been there. Hang in there, hopefully he will grade on a curve.

Sipdown (308)!

Thanks VariaTea for the sample!

52Teas flavoured Genmaicha are usually pretty solid, so I was pretty excited when this one was announced, although a little skeptical that it would taste convincingly like cotton candy, and not just generically sweet.

If nothing else – the dry leaf for this one is incredibly beautiful aesthetically though! Really nails the cotton candy aesthetic/vibe with the cute little heart sprinkles and fun pastel colours…

It did fall into the trap I was kind of worried about; bottom line this had all the flavours of a common Genmaicha tea but with a lot of extra sweetness. I didn’t really get anything that was distinctly ‘cotton candy’ and that was disappointing. However, my assumption was that if it was just gonna be a sugary sweet Genmaicha it would be far too intense/cloying and that didn’t exactly happen either; it was relatively well balanced overall and I thought the extra bit of sweetness atop all of the roastiness actually worked pretty well. In fact, if it reminded me of anything it was probably more of a lightly toasted marshmallow flavour rather than Cotton Candy.

Anyway, thanks VariaTea for sharing! It’s always really fun trying another 52Teas blend and this one was pretty good overall!

52 Teas flavored genmaichas are part of what made us tea twins so I always try to share when I have. Sorry this didn’t turn out like you wanted but I;m glad you got to try it.

I like this so much I’ve already gone through it. The popped rice flavor came through beautifully and it kind of reminded me of Lucky Charms, like a marshmallow vibe with a very light vanilla/fruitiness? Delicious.

This is the upcoming week’s Tea of the Week and it’s nearly sold out! I even made some extra of this tea when I blended it because I did anticipate that it would be a popular flavor and I think that’s the only reason why I still have a few of these in the taster size.

This is sweet and yummy – it tastes like someone melted some cotton candy in my teacup – or perhaps someone ground fine some genmaicha and added it to cotton candy sugar and created a batch of candy floss.

I really don’t know what else to say here – we’ve got cotton candy flavor – we’ve got genmaicha – and it’s a delight!
