I don’t think I’m chancey enough to buy a Republic of Tea canister without trying a sample (50 tea bags!) so I’m happy to receive a sample from them once in a while. I haven’t tried many RoT but this one is good and also my favorite. I guess I like teas with vanilla, especially if its a red tea. This is very smooth, tasty and vanilly.

Hmm.. I thought this was a green tea for some reason until I logged into Steepster and it was a white tea. I don’t drink many white teas, but this one isn’t bad. I actually like it more knowing now it is a white tea. The strawberry flavor isn’t enough! I am glad to be able to try any SpecialTeas though. thanks again, joeCool!

drank Genmaicha by Butiki Teas

Interesting! I had never heard of Genmaicha before. Toasted rice! Popped corn! With a green tea? What a surprise! It has a toasty flavor. I’m learning to appreciate a nice green tea because the green tea knows how to bring out the other flavors included. The smell of the toasted rice reminds me of a certain cereal from my childhood, but I’m not sure which. And I doubt the cereal was even made of toasted rice. You can smell and taste the popcorn, and there was only a couple little pieces in my sample. I wonder what a tea would be like with mostly popcorn? And would you add butter to it? :D

Let me tell you… this tea tastes WAY better than it smells. I can’t even keep it around my other teas, the smell is so strong. Before I drank it the first time, I was a bit hesitant to drink it because of the smell. I do like the FLAVOR though. I’ve drank this tea before (not sure why I didn’t leave a tasting note) but the local newspaper said to try maple syrup in tea. I didn’t know why I didn’t think of this myself. I thought I’d try a spoonful of the maple in this tea, as sort of a tree theme (you know, maple syrup, pine-smoked tea…) It is GOOD. I have never sweetened any tea with anything before. I usually like to drink tea by itself (and I get enough sugar elsewhere in my diet – I don’t need sugar in the one thing I eat that doesn’t have sugar in it!) The rating for this tea, is for how I might rate it without the maple in it. By itself, the tea is a nice smoky black. But occasionally, why not add a bit of maple to a cuppa tea?

drank White Christmas by Stash Tea

I’m surprised I liked this better than the Stash Holiday Chai I drank the other day. I usually love chai and hate white teas. This one wasn’t bad! I also usually like some spearmint if I have to drink peppermint. Maybe I was expecting it to be a lot worse.

I’m no coffee drinker. I prefer tea. But this lovely tea actually tastes like a mild coffee (it has caffeine), which is PERFECT for me. The second steep is darker than the first, tastier, and blacker than a cup of coffee. I did not know a “coffee tea” like this existed, and it will now be a favorite. Yum!

drank Holiday Chai by Stash Tea

This was the last ‘Holiday Chai’ from my Stash holiday collection. I don’t like it. I usually love chai. The flavors mix together very weird here. I’m not sure why.

A green tea with a lovely mandarin orange flavor. The package said to pour boiling water on it though, but that usually ruins green teas, so I waited a while before steeping. I’ll have to try some more St. Dalfour, though green teas usually aren’t my favorite.

drank Coconut Cream Pie by Butiki Teas

I love a good rooibos. This is very good. It works as a delicious red tea with a smooth vanilly flavor but I’m not sure why I’m not getting much of a “coconut cream pie” taste here. Maybe because a rooibos tea naturally tastes like that to me, or maybe because my sample had mostly rooibos and was missing the other good stuff to give it that coconut pie flavor. (It looked like plain rooibos in the package to me.) It may be because there is more tea out of the infuser than in it, so it just keeps steeping. (Though that is no fault of the tea, just my infuser.) Theories, theories. But if you like red tea, this is one to try anyway!

drank Peach Oolong by Butiki Teas

I’m not familiar with oolong teas. I didn’t expect the floral scent! I want to say a mild gardenia, if that sounds good. I don’t even like gardenia! And no matter how much I love the delicious white peachy flavor, I’m trying to smell it as much as I’m tasting it. A tea like this is like drinking juice without all that sugar. This would also work really well as an iced tea. This is my favorite peachy tea! And this can definitely be steeped multiple times! The second steep was just as strong, if not stronger. I received this as a sample in a very generous package from Butiki!

Most of the teas listed in my cupboard are actually sample sizes. I don’t really have 2,000 ounces of tea around here! Many of my teas have only one teaspoon left… maybe two. But I like keeping them in my cupboard list for reference to what I could be sipping. Usually, I write tasting notes once for each tea. I’m still drinking them, just not writing tasting notes each time!

I’m always in search of: Hattialli, Qu Hao black, Jin Jun Mei, teas using marshmallow root.

My dislikes: hibiscus, ginger (unless in chai), turmeric, bee pollen, charcoal type flavors

My ratings:
95-100 – Super awesome deliciousness favorites – cupboard essential
80-95 – Also pretty delicious
65-80 – Pretty good
50-65 – Okay
1-50 – Probably won’t want to sip it again

I’m planning on being a Steepsterer as long as there IS a Steepster, so if you’re not hearing from me, that means something happened to my health… if you know what I mean. (Or as evidenced by the great computer hiatus of 2019, something happened to my computer… I have a dumb phone so can’t access internet on that. As of 12/20/21 my wifi might start getting unreliable.)

Happy sipping!
