So thrilled to have won the 52Teas May giveaway box! It came in the mail today and it’s brimful of exciting flavors :) Many thanks to Anne and Amethyst!

I decided to try this one first because I was curious to see just how much it could taste like blueberry danish, and the answer is VERY. It smells and tastes spot on, right down to those sort of jelly notes from the filling. The base tea provides good support, but doesn’t distract from the blueberry, which is very clearly the star of the show. I don’t get much cream cheese, but I feel like when I’ve eaten blueberry danish, I didn’t get much cream cheese there either — like it’s just a little smear usually to keep the blueberry from soaking into the pastry. So overall, the flavor balance seems incredibly accurate. Usually when I get flavored teas they just sort of vaguely taste like whatever they’re named after. I want to know what kind of alchemy is going on here!

PS: Congrats on winning – we’re very glad that you’re enjoying the package!

Crowkettle

Hype! This is one of my old favourites :P

Also, congratulations!

Tamarindel

@52Teas Whoops! Sorry if I let the cat out of the bag, I wasn’t even thinking about that :/ But it is amazing! Thank you!

Tamarindel

Thanks for the congrats @CrowKettle, definitely hyped to be exploring more of 52Teas offerings, I’ve read so many mouth-watering reviews about them here :)

Not a big deal – although – this was an extremely limited reblend because I had a very limited supply of the Fujian black tea that I used in the blend. That is to say that I have a feeling that I’m going to have some disappointed individuals because the tea will sell out very fast due to the limited supply. :(

52Teas

On the other hand, I’m very happy to hear that you enjoyed the tea!

Fjellrev

Congratulations! That is so exciting.

And OMG, I need more of this in my life. My absolute favourite 52teas blend!

Tamarindel

@52Teas I can see it now — instead of the Hunger Games, we’ll have the Tea Games, everyone dueling for the last cup of this. I am not terribly literate about black tea bases, but I have seen ‘Fujian’ popping up in a lot of my favorite flavored teas. Must be an important part of the magic in this batch. Hopefully Fujian has a good crop this year and you can get more in :)

Tamarindel

Thanks @Fjellrev! I hope you can get some of this batch, the blueberries are huge! It’s been so fun trying this box, I’ve tried the cucumber one now too, and as weird as the flavor sounds, it’s delicious :)

Still working on these pearls that I ordered so long ago. On the plus side, they keep their flavor well. I’ve never gotten over the fact that they’re not as peachy as the batch I first ordered; I guess I was in the minority of people who liked them that way, because most of the reviewers wanted the balance tipped in favor of the jasmine and were probably glad when the recipe was changed.

Anyway, I still enjoy this once in awhile but it’s not the favorite it used to be.

drank Rainbow Sherbet by 52teas

I ordered three little taster pouches of this tea, and I’ve come to the end of the first one, so this is a sobering reminder that my supply is finite. Excellent tea though. Love the raspberry, citrus and cream notes. If I wasn’t trying extremely hard to ration this tea, it would be my daily afternoon cup.

drank Paris by Harney & Sons

A nice cup of tea saddened by the realization that this is the last of the tin. I am out of Paris. How does this happen so fast?

Rosehips

Mine also evaporates into thin air when I am not looking. One of the great mysteries.

drank Roasted Almond by Capital Teas

Got this as a recent sample. It is very reminiscent of David’s Forever Nuts, but Forever Nuts just seems a little stronger, a little more all around apple-cinnamon-buttery. Still good, but you know, not seeing anything here that would make me want to switch from the original.

Sipdown of this and it was more dust than leaf, but it still held up really well. A nice earthy, roasty kind of tea, tasted sort of halfway between long jing and a roasted oolong.

While roasted oolong is never going to be my favorite kind of oolong, this is still enjoyable. It has a pleasant mellowness. While it’s easy to detect the roast, it’s still a light-tasting roast. Lots of earthiness and a hint of nuttiness.

drank Butterbeer by 52teas

I always imagined butterbeer as tasting something like butterscotch or caramel with lots of cream. This is nothing like that. The epic sarsparilla notes make this hands down a root beer tea, but it’s such a good root beer tea, who could mind? Really happy to have this. I love root beer flavor, but I’ve never been a fan of the carbonation or the sugar rush. Root beer tea is the best of both worlds.

drank Jin Xuan by Zen Tea
672 tasting notes

This seems a little more mineraly than the average milk oolong, probably because it’s winter harvest. Still, great flavor and beautiful leaves. I got a hundred grams and I’m already wondering why I didn’t order more, which is what I wonder literally every time I buy Jin Xuan. You really cannot have too much of it.

drank Taiwan Ruby by Zen Tea
672 tasting notes

I was terribly sad to hear Zen Tea isn’t going to sell any more tea this year once their supply runs out, especially since my all-time favorite, Coconut Oolong, is already out of stock. The prices are so good right now, though, that I snapped up a couple of things from them that I’ve never tried before, including this Taiwan Ruby. Typically unflavored black teas are not my favorite, but whenever I have visitors I find that is what they ask to drink, so I try to keep an eye out for nice ones.

This one is very smooth and has a pleasant maltiness. I think I messed up the directions, because I see on the website they recommend using 2 heaping tsp., but I just used 1 tsp. It was still flavorful, but it might be better if it was a little stronger.
