I have a bit of backlog from last night, but nothing all too long, so yay for that!

This one was intended to be my last tea of the night; I felt exhausted and just wanted something caffeine free and sweet to close off on. It definitely satisfied those requirements and was super tasty. Except then I was suddenly hit with a wave of energy which resulted in more tea drinkage and my being awake until around 3AM…

OMGsrsly

I hate it when that happens! D:

Have to keep my review short because Tre just got home, but this comes from Boychik. It’s really good! Basically super yummy and creamy vanilla with a really pleasant white base, and just a touch of sweet lemon. In a pastry kind of way, not a rind or medicinal sort.

Essentially I’m slurping it up!

boychik

I think it’s very fine like royal. I appreciate this tea but not crazy about it.

So, I kept the steep time on this one short and the result was some tea which was pleasantly sweet and indulgent but not overwhelmingly spicy! Hooray! Downside is that it also made me realize that I’m starving and maybe need to finally eat something a little bit more substantial than an apple.

That’s the only food I’ve had all day. Oops. I got kid of distracted by tea and the computer and such… Heh.

Thanks to the amazing Boychik who sent me so much of this one! Seriously, I’m going to be able to enjoy a whole bunch more amazing cups of this tasty treat along with some other really good blends too!

This was just… Mmm.

I brewed up a large mug and just melted into my couch whilst simultaneously rewatching Princess Jellyfish clips and munching on some apple slices and caramel dip. I should be fretting over job hunting and rent and finances, but I’ve applied to all the applicable listings for the day, done my housework/chores, and have no prior plans or commitments today so there’s nothing keeping me from lounging around and destressing, for once.

Eventually I’ll work up the nerve to salt this one – but I just wanted some familiarity, so not today…

Tre’s been gone for an awfully long time today, which is awesome because more computer access for me, though I think his shift was supposed to be over hours ago? Maybe he went out with friends…

Courtney

That sounds like an awesome evening ahead.

Sipdown (194/196)!

I admit that this was a totally unexpected sipdown as I thought I had more leaf of this than there really was, so it was a sort of pleasant surprise. Thanks Lala for the sample, it seems like today I’m just going through a bunch of the teas you’ve given me.

I’m not really sure if I get the namesake for this one. Basically, it’s “White Tiger” – right? That’d make sense if the tea was either A) A white base – though it’s an oolong, or B) Was simply “tiger” because that’d maybe fit in with the oranges in the mix? Except since this tiger is white the orange tie in doesn’t seem too strong to me…

It’s nice enough though in taste. The base is very nice, maybe a teeny bit floral. And then the other flavours – the orange and the peach – are very well balanced and pretty refreshing. I think I’m maybe picking up the peach a little bit more, though only slightly. Super yummy and pleasant!

Overall, I wont seek this one out again. I’m too finicky about peach flavored things and it’s too difficult to acquire to make a fuss about when I likely wouldn’t want it on anywhere close to a regular basis, but it was really cool to try it out! Super tasty.

EDIT: Oh! Has anyone else seen this? I haven’t seen in mentioned in anyone’s tasting notes or on the DB. Thoughts?

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 4 min, 15 sec 8 OZ / 236 ML
JennyFur

I have the green of this that I got from like target and it works well enough, though the baskets small. Really small. I usually use it for herbals or things with large chunks so I dont need to worry about leaf growing room.

tigress_al

I also have the green one, I got it from superstore. I agree with JennyFur, the basket is too small for anything except herbals, but I like it anyway. Sometimes I use it just for storing iced tea in the fridge.

Thanks Lala for the sample! At the time you gave it to me I had yet to try a Pu’Erh tea and wasn’t quite ready to, much to my mother’s disappointment because we both thought this smelled absolutely incredible.

However, I’ve tried a couple flavoured Pu’Erhs now and I figured that I was finally ready to test this one out. I’ll admit, I did oversteep it a little bit so not totally sure how that may have played into the taste, but your sample was large even for at least one probably two more cups so I’ll be able to get it right/more on point.

Taste wise, it’s a nice enough citrus tea with a bit of an extra taste that must be the Pu’Erh. It’s a little like what I remember David’s Chocolate Orange tasting like (but way less “oily”) but not really anything like Weight To Go! tasted like. I guess I just, overall, don’t know enough about Pu’Erh yet to say anything with confidence – but I suppose that’s what trying new things out is for.

I’m a little sad this isn’t more creamy/vanilla flavoured as I expected and hoped it would be. For a creamsicle inspired tea its maybe just a bit too heavy on the natural/rind like citrus side. Though it did seem to get thicker in mouthfeel and creaminess as it cooled, which was pleasant. I may try this with milk added or as a latte too. I guess I’ll have to think about it…

Overall, pleasant enough but maybe not quite at the level my expectations were.

I over steeped this cup by about three minutes, and now I’m left with a bitter cup of lemon rind grossness. I’ll wait to see if it gets any better as it cools, but likely this is going to get tossed.

Damn user error!

Flavors: Lemon Zest

I love this one cold brewed.

Autistic Goblin

oops! oh well it happens. I don’t think I’ve tried this one but I’ll add it to my list :D

drank Bamboozled by DAVIDsTEA

Yay! I’m reviewing a tea on the day I’m actually drinking it! It certainly feels like that hasn’t happened in a while…

Anyway, this one is a cold brew that brewed for about 12 hours. Maybe a little bit more than that. I’ve had it cold brewed before (once) but wanted it again so a little while back I picked up 15g of it, which looks like it’ll be enough for the cold brew batch and a hot cup as well (haven’t tried it hot before, so that is a little exciting).

This is very peachy though, but in a really sweet and refreshing way! Super tasty, that’s for sure – though maybe just a tiny touch floral? I’m finding I like bamboo teas a fair bit though, Tea Desire’s Buddha Bamboo still being my favourite thus far. We’ll see how this holds up hot though.

Also, I’m finally watching the most recent episode of Bones so I’m very excited that I’m now all caught up on it.

Preparation
Iced 8 min or more 4 tsp 25 OZ / 739 ML
VariaTEA

I am watching Bones now too!! I am on Season 8, Episode 14.

Roswell Strange

Almost caught up!

VariaTEA

Yay! Now if only I were as on top of my schoolwork :P

Autistic Goblin

I love this one but it gives my mom a headache. I love it served ice cold.

Courtney

I love this one cold brewed with pineapple juice added.

Thanks Lala for the sample! I threw it into my mix of green teas last night while all snuggled up watching Princess Jellyfish last night/early morning (no, I’m not going to shut up about it; it was a beautiful anime).

I was a little cautious about this one because I’m not a big green tea drinker, but it smelled really nice so that made me a little less anxious about trying it out. Overall, I though it was pleasant enough though maybe too vegetal for my tastes. I really got raspberry out of this one though, a little less so the strawberry. And funnily enough, near the end of the mug I was tasting banana!?

What’s up with that!?

But yeah, this was good but not breathtakingly so. I may try cold brewing the last little bit, though…

drank Movie Night by DAVIDsTEA

Drank while watching Princess Jellyfish (I’m very, very tempted to rewatch the whole series again tonight; I’d say it’s tied with Blood+ right now as my favourite anime). It was the perfect light, kind of nutty, buttery counterpart with just enough sweetness from the apple!

Very gentle.

Autistic Goblin

I haven’t watched those yet. I’m glued to my Fairy Tail manga and I am currently watching Magi, Log Horizon and rewatching Sword Art Online as the new season is coming :D LONG LIVE ANIME!

Roswell Strange

My roommate likes Sword Art Online, but I’ve been putting off watching it specifically because he likes it, heh…

Autistic Goblin

if you like .hack//sign or Log Horizon than you will like Sword Art Online. It’s very good and popular. Well you could always watch Attack on Titan it’s popular… I don’t really like it that much though. Dusk Madien Amnesia is good, 11 eyes was okay, Another was AWESOME and creepy as hell. Watch out for the umbrella! (watch Another and you will understand)

Roswell Strange

I have a friend who really wants me to watch Attack on Titan, but the art style bothers me a lot… Right now I seem to be on a bit of a Bishounen/Shoujo kick, though often I lean towards more fantasy type stuff.

Autistic Goblin

Black Butler (kuroshitsuji) has a very nice art style and the manga just flat out rocks! Kamisama Kiss is good the manga is Kamisama Hajimemeashita. Also I recommend Ouran High School Host Club, Vampire Knight, Fruits Basket, My Bride is a Mermaid is funny, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (FMA doesn’t count) Fairy Tail of course, and umm.. dang it I’m drawing a slight blank right now but give me time and I can list more…

Roswell Strange

I’ve seen Ouran (albeit a while back) and Fruits Basket (also one of my favourites). I watched the first episode of My Bride is a Mermaid but it didn’t really do much to sell itself. Too many angry shouting Yukuza, and I got the sense that’d be a regular thing. My brother is watching FMA Brotherhood right now, and I’m waiting to hear his verdict. Fairy Tale is on my list of stuff to watch, but not totally sure I’m in the right headspace for it atm. I also really like Soul Eater, Digimon (up until Frontier), One Piece (I watch occasionally with my roommate, so what I’ve seen is sporadic), and Free! Iwatobi Swimming Club. I also very recently finished B Gata H Kei and thought that was decent enough, though I was disappointed in the ending.

AnnaEA

I love Ouran and Fruits Basket, and just finished a long weekend Hell Girl marathon. I’m debating what to watch next – either Sekaiichi Hatsukoi again (cute boys!) Or something new. B gata h kei did end a little soon – apparently the manga goes on a good bit yet, buf the anime just didn’t get renewed??

Autistic Goblin

well of course Digimon rocks, Black Butler is on Netflix season 1 rocks but the manga is better and still going, season 2 is weird and doesn’t count. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is awesome and I’m sure you’ll like it. I can’t stand One Piece but than I can never get past episode 1, or in the manga chapter 1 because the animation style bothers me.. it looks so childish… and I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Naruto before deciding it was stupid. Soul Eater is pretty interesting but I’ve only got to Death Junior I think his name was.. the weird kid with the obsession with being perfect. Angel Beats is a good show. Magi is really good!! It is kind of addicting to watch Magi so I warn you now. I’ve seen an episode of Free! Iwatobi Swimming Club and it’s in my Crunchyroll que but between Magi and Log Horizon it hasn’t got much attention… poor thing I’ll watch it tomorrow so it stops feeling left out.

Autistic Goblin

@ AnnaEA unfortunately a lot of animes get cancelled but the manga continues. Oh D Gray Man is really good but the anime and manga are both kindof in limbo at the moment but still worth it. I haven’t seen Hell Girl yet. Trinity Blood was good, Black Blood Brothers was also good if I remember correctly. GUNDAM WING rocked but then anything Gundam is usually good, Escaflowne the manga was deliberately done differently than the show and the show actually came first both were awesome though.

Roswell Strange

@AnnaEA, B Gata H Kei was supposed to have a second season but because of complaints/content and what not it didn’t happen initially. Supposedly it’ll be released sometime this summer. Supposedly. @Helena, Death The Kidd! He’s awesome. Definitely one of my favourites. The problem I have with Soul Eater is that I only like half the characters; I can’t stand Liz, Patty, and Black Star. I have a friend who likes Angel Beats and I watched the first episode with her, but I just didn’t enjoy it a whole lot.

Roswell Strange

They need to release the volumes of Princess Jellyfish faster. There are only 13. The sooner they make more of it, the sooner the anime can have a second season.

Autistic Goblin

well it got better after the first episode when you figure out everything it can be quite sad. Not nearly as sad as Clannad After Story even if it did have a happy ending.

Autistic Goblin

Inuyasha is always a must :D

Kat

I thought I was the only person who LOVES Blood +. #latetotheparty

Roswell Strange

Blood+ is my favourite anime (tied with Princess Jellyfish)!

Profile

Bio

Hello! My name is Kelly, though many people in the tea community call me Ros or Roswell.

I am a mid-twenties tea addict, blogger, and all around nerd. I grew up in the Prairies, but a few years ago I relocated to Quebec to pursue a career with DAVIDsTEA in the tea industry! I’m still working on getting my French language skills down…

My first introduction to tea, in any form outside of instant and bottled iced tea, was about seven years ago when I happened to stumble upon DAVIDsTEA while looking for a birthday present for a friend! I tried their Birthday Cake rooibos blend, and I’ve been hooked on tea ever since! In those seven years; I was introduced to the online tea community, expanded my interest in flavoured teas to include a deep love and appreciation for straight teas and traditional brewing methods, got a tea themed tattoo, started reviewing teas, amassed a sizable tea and teaware collection, became a TAC certified Tea Sommelier, & even came full circle by beginning a career in the tea industry with DAVIDsTEA!

I consider myself a Jack of all Teas, and strive to have a knowledge and appreciation of all tea types, formats, and styles of drinking. I don’t like to feel boxed in to just being a “flavoured tea” or “straight tea” drinker – my expectations may vary depending on the type of tea or how it’s been processed/prepared but if it’s good tea, it’s good tea no matter how it’s been made!

You name it, I probably drink it- and I’ll absolutely try anything at least once.

My default method of preparation is hot, Western style, and straight – but I’m not opposed to additions if I’m in the right mood. If I ever add something to a tea or use a different method of preparation I will ALWAYS call it out in the tasting note though.

I like to listen to music when drinking tea, especially when I’m brewing a large pot at a time or steeping Gongfu. Often I curate very intentional tea and music pairings, and sometimes I share them here in my tasting reviews. Music is something that I find can deeply affect the experience of having tea.

I’m also one half of the “tea and fandom” podcast GeekSteep where, weekly, we discuss newly explored fandoms over tea as well as try to figure out the perfect tea to pair with each fandom. You can find us on Spotify and Apple & Google podcasts.

Favourite flavour notes/ingredients: Pear, lychee, cranberry, cream, melon, pineapple, malt, roasty, petrichor, sweet potato, heady florals like rose, hazelnut or walnut, sesame, honey (in moderation), and very woody shou.

Least favourite flavour notes/ingredients:
Lemongrass, ginger, strongly spiced profiles (and most Chai in general), mushrooms, seaweed, chamomile, stevia, saltiness or anything that reminds me too much of meat that isn’t supposed to taste like meat…

Currently exploring/obsessed with: Sheng from Yiwu, Yancha (Qilan in particular), anything with a strong sweet potato note. Also, I need to try ALL the root beer teas! Searching for a really good caramel flavoured blend, ideally with a black tea base.

Please contact me at the instagram account listed below if you would like me to review your teas.

Currently I’m employed in the tea department of the DAVIDsTEA head office. While I’m still sharing my own personal thoughts on new & existing DAVIDsTEA blends, I am no longer numerically rating them due to the obvious conflict of interest. Any comments expressed are a reflection of my own thoughts and opinions, and do not reflect the thoughts and opinions of the company. Any DAVIDsTEA blends you currently see with a numeric score were reviewed prior to my being hired there and have not been adjusted since becoming a DAVIDsTEA employee.
