drank Chai by Adonia Tea House

I first tried this chai in-house. It was quite delightful, especially with the little chunks of rock sugar they offer.

At home, it’s not quite as good. Maybe it’s something about someone serving you tea vs. making it yourself. I like the spice mix. The tea itself is meh. If I could get this spice mix in a David’s Tea or Shanti tea, I think I would have my perfect chai.

EDIT: I tried this a little later on in the day with a half mug of steamed milk, lots of sugar and half a mug of tea. Much better. Almost close to perfect maybe. Increased the rating a little bit.

I didn’t really believe that this was going to be a chocolate-flavoured tea. My brain just said that it wasn’t possible. So I guess I’m not super disappointed that there was only the slightest hint of chocolate in my tea. The main thing I noticed was the bitterness of the green tea. What is with me and green tea??? I just cannot get the timing right to avoid messing everything up! I did get the cinnamon notes which was really nice.

I’m going to have to try this again before I give it a rating. And maybe drink it sometime other than right after dinner when I would much rather have real chocolate LOL

Try steeping it at a lower temperature. I absolutely hated this tea when I first got it because of the bitterness and overwhelming cinnamon flavor. I made it last night at about 180 degrees and steeped for 3 minutes. Much, much better.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll have to give it another try :-)

Mmmmm, morning tea on my day off. Bliss!

I’ve been drinking this for a while, then finally realized today that I’ve never actually logged it. I’m a big fan of Earl Grey tea, and this is the first loose leaf version I’ve tried. I love how the bergamot comes out strong. Yet it still has a lovely creamy feel that keeps things mellow. A teensy bit of bitterness this morning that tells me that I put too much in the steeper, but I don’t even mind that too much.

After reading the reviews, I’m definitely going to have to try this as a London Fog at some point. Since this has a permanent place on the shelf, it’ll be easy to do :-)

drank Jessie's Tea by DAVIDsTEA

I’ve upped my rating for this one. The taste is growing on me. It has a nice creaminess that I enjoy, and it is a great tea for bedtime. I have sleeping issues so I’ve been trying to use lavender to help me wind down and get into sleep mode. This and a lavender candle seem to be helping.

drank Moroccan Mint by Shanti Tea

My tummy’s not feeling so great today, so mint tea it is. This is a very nice mint tea, not too strong for an upset stomach and not so weak that you’d think you were drinking hot water. I like this. I’ll have to try it again when I’m feeling well to really appreciate it though.

drank Vanilla Rooibos by Shanti Tea

Meh. I love Rooibos teas, and I generally love vanilla flavoured teas. This just didn’t stand out for me. Don’t get me wrong, this tea is good. The sweetness of the rooibos and the vanilla both come out in the brewed tea. I just feel I’ve had better.

drank Kashmiri Chai by Shanti Tea

Yet another tea in my quest for the perfect cup of chai. And yet another that doesn’t make the cut :-(

I can smell the spices in the dry tea, but nothing shows up once it’s steeped. I too taste an odd aftertaste that reminds me of old bags of Red Rose that have sat around for way too long. I need a chai with more kick.

So far, I’m 0 for 2 with the Shanti chai (this and Om Chai). I’ve got one more in my stash; hopefully that one will be The One.

(I have about 2/3 of the tall tin of this tea left. Does anyone want it?)

drank Copabanana by DAVIDsTEA

I don’t like banana flavoured stuff. I even go out of my way to pick smoothies that don’t have any banana. I like fresh bananas and banana chips, just not banana flavour. So, I didn’t have high hopes for this one.

I opened the bag and all I smelled was banana. Yikes! But, I like all the other ingredients so I figured I might as well give it a try. I’ve never actually had a tisane before so I didn’t know how to accurately measure all this chunky stuff. Oh well, I wanted something before bed so this was it.

I’m pleasantly surprised. It has a nice fruitiness to it. I don’t have the words to describe what I’m tasting, but I like it. I put a small dab of honey; I probably could have forgone that. The more I drink it, the more I like it. I’m not sure I would necessarily buy it again, but I’m happy that I tried it.

drank Darjeeling Black by Shanti Tea

It’s pretty rare that I drink a pure tea (meaning non-flavoured). Today, however, I wanted something different. This is part of a pile of teas that I bought from Shanti Tea through a swarmjam deal.

I’ve never had darjeeling before so I have nothing to compare it to. I can say that I really like this tea. It feels rich and has a nice aroma that lingers after I’ve had a sip. This is nice for those days when I don’t feel like playing with all my flavoured teas.

Enjoying the last evening of 2011 with a huge mug of Creme Caramel Rooibos, an oldie-but-goodie that I found in my tea stash.

Dry, it has a great caramel scent. Brewed, it has the combined sweetness of the caramel and rooibos to make me very happy. Just a touch of milk and a little maple sugar tonight – perfecto! I am a big fan of rooibos teas because I have such a sweet tooth and I don’t have to worry about caffeine keeping me awake if I have tea before bedtime.

I’ll have to savour this because I used the last of it tonight. It’ll definitely make a come-back to my tea shelf but I’ve got to get through some others first. Happy New Year everyone!
