1024 Tasting Notes
A big beautiful mug full of this delicious brew got me through a rough morning after, if you know what I mean.
I’m not sure exactly the combination of events that left me feeling like this today but I’m going to point most of the blame at 1. staying up playing DnD until 3:30am and then 2. overindulging at the market this morning (I didn’t expect there to be both bagels and doughnuts left by the time I got there, a blessing and a curse).
In any case, I didn’t want another cleansing green like the other day, but I wanted something… similar. Same same but different. What a picky cow.
Reaching for a lovely and delicate plain black, however, was the right idea.
After a couple of days of lattes it felt time for a nice clean green, so this afternoon I reached for my samples from Grounded and the Dragonwell called my name.
This steeped tea is such a vibrant yellow, wow! I was surprised to see such a crazy colour.
I’m definitely not a green connoisseur and I’m generally not even drawn to them but this was just what I was craving this afternoon, so that’s interesting. It tasted spot on from what I’ve come to expect from a good green leaf. Great job, Grounded!
A creamy chocolatey treat, this one! Another great sample from VariaTEA — this is my first try of mate but I couldn’t really differentiate its flavour from the rest of the chocolate and cinnamon, seeing as I haven’t tried it before. (That’ll change soon—I got some straight mate in this month’s monstrositea box.)
All the “energiser” warnings made me hesitant to have this as an after-dinner treat so I finally got around to it today. Another latte (I’m trying not to smash through those awesome matchas until I get my proper matcha whisk in the post) that settled quite comfortably in my stomach.
I was so SO excited to finally try a Red Leaf matcha, it was probably the main reason I leapt at a swap with VariaTEA because she put one on her list—and then sent me another THREE to try as well! I’ve been so overwhelmed that I haven’t gotten around to them yet.
UNTIL TONIGHT!
I opened some almond milk and made a quick latte and it was a perfect desserty treat, which is exactly what I expected of this. Awesome!
I tried a sample of this on the T2 counter today when I dropped in, because for me it was the most appealing of this month’s three limited edition teas (theme: chocolate).
The smell of this tea was INTOXICATING and totally lamington! Super strong coconut and chocolate notes.
Unfortunately the tea itself wasn’t anywhere near as amazing as the scent—the black base was totally overpowering and the more exciting flavours got lost in it. It was actually kinda astringent, even.
I love T2’s creativity but I think they need to take a serious look at the base tea they’re using. This isn’t the first time one of their amazing limited edition teas has suffered with a poor base (looking at you, Banana Bake). But I’m pretty over it by now. I won’t be buying this. Take a break, wallet!
I was super tempted to order this (and stock up my melbourne breakfast at the same time) but i was cringing at the $35 international shipping change – looks like your review came just in time for my wallet!!
Ha! I’m happy to be your international hookup if you need some T2 any time, I know I can ship it at about half that cost. DM me any time :)
Bee, have you tried the Brisbane breakfast? That one is gorgeous. I need more. The Adelaide is lovely too.
Adelaide is tasty, was not a fan of Perth, and Ive not tried Brisbane but it sounds tasty with the mango! Looks like I might get a sneaky quick trip back to Oz in September so you know my first stop after picking up all my missed foods will be T2 – Really appreciate the offer Memily, I’ll definitely keep that in mind :)
