7 Tasting Notes
I enjoyed the texture and look of the finer, grassier Japanese teas. This yielded a somewhat bitter, very spinachy cup. While decent overall, it isn’t really my cup. I prefer my green teas a little less bitter; I have black teas to satisfy that itch!
Flavors: Cut Grass, Herbaceous, Spinach
Preparation
Despite the reviews I read claiming this tea to be “salty” and harsh, I actually find it to be quite clean and subtle. This is my first encounter with a bird’s nest pu-erh, and I hope it won’t be my last.
Flavors: Apricot, Flowers, Seaweed
Preparation
Not my cup. While I do enjoy the smell of seasoned wood in a fireplace, the pine scent is completely overpowering, and while the taste is relatively pleasant, it’s smoky beyond my tolerance.
Flavors: Ash, Pine, Wood
Preparation
I don’t enjoy most oolongs and hate the charcoal taste that most of them have when they’re inexplicably roasted. This one, however, isn’t roasted and retains wonderful flavors and aromas, even when steeped for a 3rd and 4th time.
Flavors: Asparagus, Malt
Preparation
When I opened the sample from Steepster Select, I was awed and confused by the look of these leaves. A 3 minute infusion yielded little change in color and I knew I was in for an extremely delicate white tea. While I tend to like my white teas a bit more potent, this was delicious. The subtle flavors and aromas are intoxicating, and I plan on purchasing quite a bit more of this stuff in the future.
Preparation
I absolutely adored this sample and was pleasantly reminded of how enjoyable jasmine can be when done right. This is one of the cleanest-tasting, pleasantly vegetal and floral green teas I’ve ever had. I’m normally not partial to a tea that’s so delicate, but this is a winner and I hope to buy a ton for my roommate and me once it becomes available for purchase on here. Great job this month, Steepster Select!
Flavors: Flowers, Grapes, Green Melons
Preparation
This is my absolute favorite green tea. It’s brothy, smoky, and sweet all at once. I am going crazy that I cannot find it anymore, nor can I find any links to purchasing any teas from this estate. Does anyone know why green teas from this region are now impossible to find? I’ve been rationing the precious little amount of this tea that I have left and will be borderline inconsolable once it’s gone.
