drank Citrus Paradisi by Simpson & Vail

Really enjoying this refreshing Earl Grey variation today- I made a quart and have been sipping along for several hours. I find that with most S&V flavored blacks, brewing just under 3 minutes works best. Although I enjoy Citrus Paradisi hot, I like it even more as it cools down to room temperature. Bergamot and grapefruit notes are both there-grapefruit may be more dominant. I like it best with a little stevia.

This is one of several oolong samples I received from Teavivre. Its been quite some time since I’ve had a roasted oolong. There is nothing not to like about it. The roasty flavor is just right, and of course, it stands up to multiple infusions. Nice.

I’m starting my morning off with this yummy concoction. The very popular Laoshan black is skillfully blended with organic lemon peel, orange peel, rose petals, and bergamot. The nuances shift as the tea cools, with the bergamot becoming more pronounced. The rose is very subtle. I actually enjoy Laoshan Black in blends such as this and Laoshan Village Chai more than straight up. I sweetened this with some stevia, but my husband enjoyed it unsweetened. I’d like to try it iced next summer, as the website suggests.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with the osmanthus but am enjoying it quite a bit. I favor black teas, but was pleased to get several oolong samples from Teavivre, and its always fun to try new teas from them. I’ve had good experiences from pretty much everything they’ve sent me. This oolong has a subtle floral aroma. The brew is smooth and refreshing- pleasantly floral but not overpowering. I look forward to several more infusions.

This is my first tea from Nepal. Upton says it is a peak-season selection from the Misty Valley Estate in the Ilam district. I was interested in trying this because Nepal is high in the Himalayan Mountains like the Darjeeling District in India with a similar climate. Their teas are said to have a comparable taste but can be more affordable. Lately, I’ve been enjoying some Darjeeling teas finding them to be an interesting and unique change of pace from other black teas that I typically drink. If I didn’t know better,as I sip this,I would assume it was a Darjeeling. Apparently my palate is not sophisticated enough to tell the difference. The dry and wet leaf, along with the brew itself have a very nice fragrance. The flavor is light and complex with a nice balance of musky sweetness and slight astringency. The brew is smooth and clean with some fruity notes. As I sip it, I can imagine that much of what makes it so appealing comes from the misty fresh mountain air. I’d recommend this selection, especially to Darjeeling fans.

As a darj fan, I really enjoy some of the Nepal teas! At least for now they’re a great value too.

I received this several months ago and it slipped out of my mind. I’ve never tried a flowering tea. The label says Happy Holidays! New Flowering Tea. I’m not sure if it is the same one as everyone else has commented on. Like others have reported, it doesn’t have much if any jasmine flavor. I like it though. Its smooth, mild, slightly vegetal (and no bitterness)-a pleasant experience.

I can’t believe I never reviewed this delicious chai but glad I had just a little left from last year. With the weather cooling off, I’m now in the mood for some of the teas that I enjoyed last fall and winter, but was no longer craving in the summer. This is a delicious chai-the flavors are perfect. I added some frothed milk and stevia for a chai latte. I’m reordering.

Really appreciate receiving the oolong sampler from Teavivre. This one is the first one I’ve tried and it was quite enjoyable. As is typical with oolongs, I got several steeps and could have gotten more I’m sure. I haven’t been drinking oolongs too much lately, so when I took the first few sips, it immediately brought back some memories of how nice an oolong can be. I was lazy and brewed it Western style. It was lightly floral and mildly vegetal. Very nice.

Received a sample of this with my latest Verdant order. I brewed it Western style on 2 separate occasions, using about 1 1/2 tsp per 8 oz, 3 1/2 min. on 1st infusion, 5 min. on 2nd. I realize this is totally different than most of you would probably do it, but for me, it worked very nicely. I picked up the roasty, malty, earthy flavors that others have mentioned, and yes a bit of chocolate. Very flavorful, but would agree with someone who said Laoshan black “light”, which for me is a good thing. My favorite Verdant black of the moment is Zhu Rong Yunnan, which I’m glad I just re-stocked on, because now they are out. Yu Lu Yan Cha is unique- its something I’d have for an occasional change of pace when I’m in the mood for something different.

I gravitate toward black teas most of the time but I made this for my husband tonight and decided to re-visit it. It has a delicate, creamy, sweet flavor-a nice change of pace for me.

Tea became a passion for me a year or so ago. I fell into it almost by accident, but now I would say it has captured me. Tea is more than something tasty to sip on, it is an experience-it helps create a mood and is quite interesting to read about and study. I discovered loose tea at the tea store at my mall. I was looking for alternatives to Coke Zero and white wine. Say what you will about that mall chain, but I’m sure it has raised awareness about tea where I live, in the land of bagged mass produced black tea prepared with lots of sugar, Atlanta, Georgia. That’s what happened with me, and then I started perusing the internet and found Steepster.

When I take on an interest or a hobby, I go into it full force and become a little obsessive about it in the beginning. I have always been adventurous when it comes to trying new foods, and once I discovered there was so much more out there than the Lipton tea I saw my mom drinking when I was growing up, I started trying many different varieties of loose tea. I have discovered I like all kinds of tea. I I veer a lot toward straight teas, especially blacks, but occasionally drink flavored also, especially Earl Grey. I like flavored Matcha lattes too. I’ve completely given up diet cola, which was becoming too much of a habit. I think tea is a lot healthier. When I rate a tea, it’s just my personal taste, so I don’t tend to post on things I don’t care for. Also, I tend to sweeten my tea with natural stevia (a no no for some!) I am a married Registered Nurse, with two kids in college and one in medical school. My husband is not hooked like I am, but he often enjoys a cup with me. I enjoy many other interests, including reading, gardening, and the arts. I’ve taken up hiking in the past year too. Anytime I can include tea in these pursuits, I do! It has become a bit of an obsession for me.
