I like this one a lot. It’s similar to the Qing Pin tea from the same company. It’s very flavourful and not bitter at all. It has a cocoa smell but it doesn’t really taste like it. I prefer the Qing Pin over the Jin Pin just because I find the chocolate taste is stronger.

I absolutely love this tea. I haven’t tried brewing it gong fu style yet, I used an infuser mug. It has very strong chocolate notes, even more than laoshan black from Verdant in my opinion.

Sample sipdown (136) I picked this one up with my last Yezi tea order just to try another white tea. They generally not my favourite, but i keep trying to see if there are any that knock my socks off like the one i tried from MF.

This one is tasty, but again falls short, only because of my inability to really appreciate white teas. It’s not overly floral and there’s a smooth, sweetness to this that i quite like. Overall a nice little tea, though folks who appreciate white teas will likely enjoy it much more than me :)

I enjoyed my last cup of this last night. Thanks again to KiwiDelight for allowing me the pleasure. This was a very relaxing tea for me and I definitely see a Yezi order in my future.

This sample comes from KiwiDelight. Thank you!

I tried this back in December when i was first starting to taste straight black teas. It is interesting to read what I thought of it then. I am really enjoying this tonight. I didn’t realize this was such a rare tea. This is coca, with hints of caramel and honey. It is really hitting the spot! Thank you for sharing one of your favorite KiwiDelight. I am glad I got to try this one again.

This is expensive, I keep only one brand in stock. So good!

I may not have used enough leaf for this cup. I am comparing this to the 2 other teas I received from Yezi Tea. This is my least favorite of the 3. A little weak, a little more bitter than the other two. Still a good cup of tea, but if I had to choose I would choose one of the other 2 to buy again. I am comparing to Gao Shan, and Qing Pin.

This sample is another from KiwiDelight. Thank you!

This is putting me in tea heaven tonight! This is taste slightly sweet, with a honey-sh flavor. This has the wonderful breadish taste and is just pure delicious. As before, I think I like this a bit more than Jin Jun Mei. I think Jin Jun Mei has a much stronger cocoa flavor and this is a bit more bready flavored. They are both wonderful though!

Oh, tea heaven is my favourite place! Sounds very yummy :-)

I agree! Tea heaven is a wonderful place to be.

I am trying this along with 2 other teas I received as a sample from Yezi Tea’s, Gao Shan, and Jin Jun. I would put this slightly above Gao Shan. This is sweet and smooth and delicious.

I haven’t been able to drink a cup of tea in a week. I manged to pick up hand foot and mouth from my daughter and the blisters in my mouth have been angry at any hot or cold liquid. It is freezing outside and to try to warm up a bit I decided to try a hot cup again. I am trying all 3 of my generous samples from Yezi.

This is very yummy. I haven’t done much tasting with straight black so to be able to try 3 right next to each other is really fun. I get a bit of a bitter sweet, chocolatey taste from this one. I would definitely buy this again, and in comparison to the other 2 that I received, Qing Pin and Jin Jun, this ties with Qing Pin.

Backlog:

This is a seriously awesome black tea!

A bold, very satisfying black tea – it’s got some heft to it. One of those teas that I like to drink in the morning because it can get me going on the days when I’d rather be sleeping. (Which is most days.)

A nice, bittersweet cacao note with caramel-y undertones. Rich and rewarding. Here’s my full-length review: http://sororiteasisters.com/2013/08/30/gao-shan-high-mountain-black-tea-from-yezi-tea/

I received my Black Friday order from this company today and I am impressed by how fast it got here and how nice it was packaged. I opened all the tea pouches because I was too curious to see and smell them and they all seem very high quality.

This is very good! Maybe it helps that I am eating caramel chocolate bark with it :) I find that this tea has no bitterness or astringency at all. I can’t really taste the smoky flavour though, maybe I didn’t steep it long enough (I didn’t follow Yezi Teas’ instruction to brew it gong fu style). I am not a scotch drinker so I can’t really comment on the similarities in flavour.

These thick leathery leaves have a very clean and smooth taste to them. I’m picking up granny smith apple and clementine notes mixed with warm cream, quickly changing to a honeysuckle finish that lingers.

This is a very unique flavor. I don’t know what to make of it yet. It reminds me, sort of, of the smell of a musty used-to-be-a-smoking motel room. The kind that is clean and looks comfortable, but it still has that smell, you know? Strangely comforting if only because you are so tired and just grateful that you found a motel room before sunrise. Or maybe this only makes sense to me, having gone on so many family road trips, and my parents never making reservations.. . always an adventure :)

I can also see, unlike many teas with the same description, how this one can compare to a scotch.

I’m not rating this now because I am not sure how I feel about it just yet.

I’m not getting the cocoa notes from this that the rest of you are getting. Just honey. That same honey flavor that I used to describe as mushroom and that I’ve recently discovered morphs into “muscatel” in a darjeeling. Clearly, I have no idea what I am talking about when it comes to describing black teas. But According to my own personal tea descriptors, I dub this mushroom tea and it shall not be my tea.

It tastes similar to Jin Jun Mei also from Yezi, which I compared to Zhen Qu from Butiki. Should I be finding such overlapping characteristics between these teas or am I on my own little tea planet?

(I keep wanting to type random German in the middle of my English. . .this is a good sign. .. well, not for all you reading my notes, probably. haha)

ok, back to the tea: The one thing ‘mushroom’ black teas have going for them is that they do not upset my stomach the way a ‘mushroom’ oolong or a darjeeling does.

Here’s to hoping that the real tea gurus out there don’t make a fuss at me for trying to compare such individual categories of tea, likely deserving of their own unique taste descriptions. :)
