Backlog:
A really delightful flavored Oolong. The Oolong is sweet, creamy and slightly vegetative, and this melds nicely with the notes of tropical fruit. Floral notes also complement these flavors. I tasted notes of peach, mango and papaya, with a distinct pineapple note.
Here is my full-length review: http://sororiteasisters.com/2013/02/19/tropical-heaven-oolong-from-kally-tea/
Bleh, having a slow day with emails piling up and crochet bits of owls I need to stitch together. I didn’t nearly drink enough tea today, but my thighs are dying!
I did the “Call Me Maybe Squat Challenge” http://youtu.be/xDpB8pWEjhk which I survived! I died at the end and was like “omg, no more” and realized it was done! WOOT!! Take that squat challenge! A overweight, though burly brazilian jiu jitsu gal finished it first try! Oww my thighs!
So, iced tea? Okay – Wild Watermelon iced is MUCH better! I added german rock sugar and a teeny bit of light agave for sweetness. You know, this tastes like a watermelon jolly rancher! Actually, I like this better than a watermelon jolly rancher!
ps. Being a tea fanatic – I was eyeing the giant tea cup in the background of that workout video the entire time! OMG I want!
Preparation
Thanks to Rachel Sincere for a sample of this! TY! Wild Watermelon kinda looks like DavidsTea Goji pop.
Wow, this is pretty good – it’s a refreshing and watermelony with a grassy tang of lime. Its slightly sweet, but could use more sweetener.
I got another cup’s worth, which I will save for an iced tea later on.
Preparation
Wow, so I’ve been through a whole 2 ounces of this and haven’t reviewed it???
This is a wonderful yunnan. Gorgeous dry leaves – very prominent golden tips. Wonderful, deep malty smell and flavor. Golden brown mahogany color liquid. I could drink this every single morning. This is what I was chasing since having my first golden yunnan back in November. This simply must be kept in the cupboard at all times.
Since you can’t really see the tea very close in the picture from the Kally site, here’s one that I took this morning.

Preparation
This is my first plum tea, I have the chance to taste it thanks to Sil
It’s a very mild cinnamon-y tea perfectly balanced with the plum aroma. There is a slight tartness on aftertaste.
The tea base is really nice and present, not too strong neither.
I preferred it very hot rather than just warm, so I need to hurry up to finish my cup !
Preparation
I thought that I had to try this one again. I steeped it for only 3 minutes this time and added some rock sugar. This made it much less hibiscus. It is definitely a sweet, fruity tea, slightly creamy, but I would not say it was orange. I still get the rockets candy flavour. Overall the tea seems really weak becuase I steeped for less time. But it is better than when I steeped for longer.
Thanks Sil for this sample.
On first smell it is very delicious orange creamsicle smelling, then BAM – Hibiscus! I figured I had to give it a try anyway, sometimes hibiscus can be deceiving.
I am unsure of the smell of this tea. I can’t quite put my finger on what it smells like. Maybe creamy hibiscus.
I am also having a hard time describing the taste of the tea. I am getting the Rockets taste, like Raritea. There is creamy vanilla, citrus, hibiscus, slightly floral, but not necessarily rose. There is a sweetenss to it but it is also tart. Knowing the name of this tea I can certainly understand why it is called sweet orange cream. But if I had this tea in a blind taste test without knowing the name, I am not sure I would come up with sweet orange.
Overall is a good tea, but it feels a bit all over the place. I have some left and will try a cold brew to see how that tastes.
Preparation
so uh… in terms of orange cream… you need to try the one from herbal infusions that we just got lol. it’s SO much better than this one. it tastes like this one smells….
Not the proper way to end this one. I kind of steeped way too long because I walked off to look for a guitar cord and strap – and of course they weren’t where I thought they were. So this is a bit harsh. Still drinkable but not its best. The caramel comes off as kind of vanilla.
I started tasting this and quickly decided to read the Steepster reviews. This is NOT typical earl grey so don’t let the name confuse you. This is highly caramel and with the strong black base it comes off as kind of burnt caramel. Very nice. The fruity flavors stay way behind and add support to the cup. Like. Thanks Nicole.
Preparation
Eh….. Sil & Indigobloom, both of you clearly like this more than me. A 3-minute infusion, and I’m getting HIBISCUS. And a bit of orange. Some hibiscus. Maybe cream, if I think about it. HIBISCUS.
Yeeaaaaaah. I definitely get where Raritea is coming from on it tasting like Rockets though, because I just caught that exact flavour. Tart citrus.
So anyways, I don’t really like this tea. Too freakin’ much hibiscus. And hibiscus, to me, tends to smell and taste a bit like… barf. Maybe if I picked it all out, I would like it. Sil – would you like the rest of this back for iced tea in the summer??
Preparation
Totally up to you. I willrink it and enjoy it so sure but if you wanna just have it hang around the house, kicking it old school with your other tea that’s cool too lol
I think it would be in the best interests of this tea to come and live with you, then :) I’ll note it down.
Shared some of this with my boyfriend’s mom yesterday, and she quite liked it. I got more of a rich fruitiness out of it this time, instead of sugary toffee/cream, but it was quite enjoyable. I have about a pot left that I’ll reserve for sharing with her. This seems to be an excellent way to reduce my stash of herbals :D
Reasonably tasty rooibos. Again, not too much rooibos flavour, and a nice dose of creamy toffee, as should be expected. Even the resteep is pretty good. I have a few servings left, so I think I’ll pop it in a bag to head to the bf’s mom’s place as she prefers caffeine-free options in the evening.
Ok… my taste buds are influenced because I just brushed my teeth…. but I kind of like this one. Less sweet and more flavourful than other rooibos’ with similar flavourings. I’m getting a bit of fruitiness as well, but it’s really tough to tell what my minty toothpaste is contributing (although I have to say, this combo isn’t too bad, especially compared to how awful nearly everything else tastes post-tooth brushing!)
I just wanted a few non-caffeinated things before bed, so brewed up some options…. and promptly went for a shower and brushed my teeth. Not the cleverest one, sometimes…
Giving this a tentative rating for now; it may increase when I try this again properly. I certainly feel like I’ll be wanting this again at some point! (Side note: I used 2 tsp of tea for 8-10 oz. I have been overleafing rooibos’ lately as they taste better that way IMO.)
Preparation
oh yeah baby! Sipdown! come to mama 155, come to mama! lol I steeped this one a little too long today but that made the re-steep much more pleasant. This is a pretty decent plummy tea, though the spice is slightly overwhelming in the first steep. This might be the one tea i’ve had where i generally prefer the second steep.
lala – absolutely nothing haha BUT my goal this year was to get to 150 for boxing day specials…so that i could take advantage of those without feeling guilty that i had too much tea.
For this week, i’m really just trying to get down as far as i can since i have about 30+ teas that will be arriving at my house this weekend. I was very nearly going to be almost at 300 with those incoming when i got back from china. Now i’m feeling much better about my stash lol
Esepcially since though my cupboard is at 150 there are probably another 10+ teas that aren’t logged because i picked them up in china and have no real way to track them.
HAHAH i love this! i spend a lot of time thinking like you are. (’i ordered 8 more samples but there are 34 samples in my backlog tasting drawer and i really should move those forward before i try the new ones blah blah") ie i have too much tea. yay boo yay.
it makes me feel warm and fuzzy knowing you are trying to tame yourself a bit too. i can super relate.
Go Sil! Sipdown and Win!
generally once a month i go through my cupboard to pull out teas that are within 1-2 cups. then i get to do a few sipdowns over that next week. It just so happens Kittenna; Indigobloom and Raritea are coming over next weekend and we’re meeting up to exchange all of the teas we jointly ordered over the past month or so… haha
omg hah quit braggin! that is so cool! i hope one of you can take pics and maybe put’em on instagram or something. that’s gonna be a great day.
Figured that I should probably try this tea since i’m sending it out for a swap lol. Not that i haven’t wanted to try it, it just kept getting put to the side since i have a bajillion unopened teas in my house.
I am totally digging this one. I really like how the plum is blending with the spices to make it better than your average spice tea. Looking forward to other steeps since the plum flavour comes out moerso for others.
1 tablespoon for 375 ml
Apricot-fruity taste on the sip. Very slight astringency from the black tea. Black tea notes are very quiet. Slight buttery quality.
Thank you to Indigobloom and Sil for sharing this with me!
Preparation
Sipdown! 817. Wow – I was pretty harsh on this tea last time! I still don’t think that there’s anything particularly special about it, and I don’t really taste anything resembling honey nut biscotti, but it tastes like a decent, ambiguously flavoured tea, which I’m perfectly happy to drink. I do wish it had more flavour, but part of that could have been age. Hard to know.
Preparation
Hrm. I’m really not getting much from this tea other than a sense that it’s flavoured, and some astringency. Perhaps 4 minutes was too much? I guess I’ll have to give this one another proper shot later! This is drinkable, just… nothing really tasty/special at all.
Thanks to Azzrian for this sample!
Preparation
Sip down! (by my roommate)
Successfully converted roommate to teas – mostly jasmine greens, roasted mate, pu’er and blacks. Another win for Team Tea!
Go Team Tea!
EDIT: Oh boy, I think he got tea drunk. At first it was “Wow, there’s something happening to my head” to “Woooo I love tea!’
Now picture it being said by a 6’4” 220lb guy waving around a small mug dancing around.
I’m still not used to the climate here in southern california. Friends and family back home are talking about the snow melting, and it was 20c here today. Of course, not used to the dryness vs. Vancouver rainyness and I’m coughing more plus allergies are starting! Boo!
ANyways, I needed my required pu’erh intake – I swear when I drink pu’erh any slight cough I have goes away. And after this cup, I have only 1 cup left of the tropical white pu’erh – that went fast! I dig the tropical flavor here – totally reflects living in this warm climate. 1.5 minute steeping was very nice!
I miss the rain and wearing my awesome daisy print rain boots. I almost wore them yesterday because I felt like it, even though theres no rain in sight and it was warm outside.
Preparation
Having a reward cup of pu’erh after 2 hours of making kimchi.
I was up to my elbows in reddy spicy garlicy sauce! Phew, so much work but so worth it. I used this recipe http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/easy-kimchi
I did a really short steep of 45 seconds, so I can have a lighter cup, but with a bit of tropical flavor. yum! My roommate likes this tea way more than I do, but I love the bold pu’erh taste mixed with tropical combination.
Preparation
Yay! Homemade Kimchi! It’s almost time for me to start a new batch. The one we’re eating now is a root kimchi, with burdock, radishes, carrot, turnips, etc. I’ve really enjoyed it, but it is almost gone. Did you include the squid?
I didn’t find any good fresh squid, so I left it out for this batch. Hopefully next time I can find some fresh squid.
and yes, I’ve had kimchi fried rice – love it! Though, I’ve only made it with store bought kimchi, so this’ll be a treat when I make it.
Oh, I really want to make her daikon kimchi. It looks so good. Maybe if I do like 1/6 the recipe. :)
I’ve never put squid or anything like that in my kimchi. I grew a lot of daikon this year, so we still have tons of cultured daikon. I did some with ginger slices & some with chili’s & garlic & the rest went into kimchi. I also tried a jar with lime slices from my key lime tree: Fail!
We live, we learn…
I heard some people put pears in their kimchi – I wanna try that out too!
My husband loves radish, so I wanna try the daikon kimchi too! Too many recipes to make! Though, for my recent kimchi I made half her recipe, and gave a mason jar full of kimchi to my in laws.
Nice! I buy those little 1C jars & give them away to people all the time, as a sample. :)
That way if they don’t care for it, it won’t sit in their frig forever. When they bring the jar back, I fill it with the newest creation! Right now I have a batch of pink kraut fermenting. I want to start a batch of ginger carrots, I think that will be awesome!
