I like it! yum.
For a juice tea, this is alot better than I expected.(even though I was very curious and hopeful!)
Now, on the first part of the sip, it’s all sour hibiscus and a hint of vanilla. Tart is not so nice! but then it changes from hibiscus to orange in the sourness followed by a creamy smooth finish. I wish the cream part was more dominant.
You know, I think this would do really well in cooking. Scones, reduction sauces, glazes… yep, I do believe I have some experimenting to do!

Sil

so funny story… guess what arrived yesterday? NOT the zen tea order we placed back on dec 10th… the 52 teas order from FOUR days ago.. i have your browncoat genmaicha in my house now lol

Indigobloom

are you kidding me?! I guess he rushed it for us? sweeeeeeet.
Hoping the Zen order isn’t stuck at customs

Sil

Well not sure why it would be stuck at customs given its from Vancouver…..

Kittenna

Wow, you guys haven’t received a within-Canada order from Dec 10?? I got my Della Terra order on Sunday that was shipped out then (to Saskatoon, even!). Still waiting on S&V though.

Indigobloom

Oh right, haha. Darn, what the heck is the holdup! good thing it isn’t a gift…

Sil

Yeah….they’re going to reship if we don’t have it by dec 31. Or refund….personally I’d rather just reship since I’d still like to try the teas :)

Indigobloom

Def agreed on that! I could use the time to clear out some cubby space anyhow heh

Sil

haha yeah i feel you. I’m totally thinking about placing a sneak order from upton…even though i’m not supposed to order any more tea until i get down to 150 teas in my cuboard!

Indigobloom

150… ahh, I can’t even dream about that at this point. I haven’t even added all of mine to my tracking sheet because I’m scared of what the number will be…

Sil

i’d rather have 95% of them logged so that I can motivate myself to watch the countdown. And that 150 includes a bunch in a box for swaps lol so technically they shouldn’t count..but i don’t want to take them out of my cupboard until they actually leave my house.

Indigobloom

Samples, I track them on my sheet but no way would I do double time and add them to Steepster, most aren’t suitable for swaps!
Every time I get my number down to something that resembles hope, I end up getting more tea either as a gift or purchase!

Kittenna

Haha guys, I have four boxes of tea here with me, and am waiting on the order from S&V. I have enough tea to drown in just here on holidays… and it’s merely a fraction of my stash! I’m scared to put everything into excel at this point. Just drink drink drink. (I am very pleased with myself with my newfound routine of filling 2-3 travel mugs every morning! Uses up 6 cups worth of leaves! And then I still have tea in the evening!)

Sil

Kittenna – that’s so me…. 2 travel mugs of tea, 1 large water bottle with matcha…. Make a cup of tea at work when I can and then tea int he evening lol

Indigobloom

Hehe, I tend to make two cups at a time… but then end up making more through the day now that I am at home. If I’m lucky, I get to make some for Dad or a friend.
My travel mug has to be hand held. The taste of plastic bugs me for some reason

Eh….. Sil & Indigobloom, both of you clearly like this more than me. A 3-minute infusion, and I’m getting HIBISCUS. And a bit of orange. Some hibiscus. Maybe cream, if I think about it. HIBISCUS.

Yeeaaaaaah. I definitely get where Raritea is coming from on it tasting like Rockets though, because I just caught that exact flavour. Tart citrus.

So anyways, I don’t really like this tea. Too freakin’ much hibiscus. And hibiscus, to me, tends to smell and taste a bit like… barf. Maybe if I picked it all out, I would like it. Sil – would you like the rest of this back for iced tea in the summer??

Sil

Totally up to you. I willrink it and enjoy it so sure but if you wanna just have it hang around the house, kicking it old school with your other tea that’s cool too lol

Kittenna

I think it would be in the best interests of this tea to come and live with you, then :) I’ll note it down.

Indigobloom

LOL I wonder if all the hibby sunk to the bottom or something? mine wasn’t that tart at all!

1.5 tablespoons for 375 ml of water

On the sip, hibiscus is not overpowering. I’m not detecting a lot of orange flavour on the sip- it is more present in the aftertaste. I’m getting a flavour that reminds me of the hard extruded candy “Rockets”. I am detecting rose taste in the background. The flavour doesn’t seem to have a focus. I am tasting everything separately. Smooth pleasing tartness.

There is something very comforting about this blend- it reminds of of the bagged herbal tisanes (Celestial Seasonings) I would have as a child.

Thank you to Indigobloom and Sil for this sample!

Thanks Sil for this sample.

On first smell it is very delicious orange creamsicle smelling, then BAM – Hibiscus! I figured I had to give it a try anyway, sometimes hibiscus can be deceiving.

I am unsure of the smell of this tea. I can’t quite put my finger on what it smells like. Maybe creamy hibiscus.

I am also having a hard time describing the taste of the tea. I am getting the Rockets taste, like Raritea. There is creamy vanilla, citrus, hibiscus, slightly floral, but not necessarily rose. There is a sweetenss to it but it is also tart. Knowing the name of this tea I can certainly understand why it is called sweet orange cream. But if I had this tea in a blind taste test without knowing the name, I am not sure I would come up with sweet orange.

Overall is a good tea, but it feels a bit all over the place. I have some left and will try a cold brew to see how that tastes.

so uh… in terms of orange cream… you need to try the one from herbal infusions that we just got lol. it’s SO much better than this one. it tastes like this one smells….

Lala

I will have to keep this in mind.

Sil

If I buy some of the other one, ill send you a sample..just poke me if you see it turn up in my tasting notes again lol

The final sample from my swap with Sil. Judging from the colour, there’s a lot of my friend hibiscus in here. While the scent is orangey, it’s also quitge spicy to begin with, although it does take on a notable creaminess as the steep progresses.

To taste, this is surprisingly sweet and creamy. The spicy notes I got from the dry mix made me think this would be quite sharp and tart, but it’s not like that at all. It actually reminds me a bit of Refreshers. Given that there’s probably a considerable amount of hibiscus in here, this is actually one of the nicest fruit teas I’ve tried in a while. It lives up to its name perfectly, somehow managing to be sweet, definitely orangey and creamy despite all indications to the contrary. A really enjoyable tea that I’m glad to have had the opportunity to try. Thanks again to Sil for sharing it with me!
