15350 Tasting Notes
Mmmmmm this is a really nice tea. I don’t recall why I decided to purchase this tea. I don’t often enjoy white teas. I’m glad that I picked it up though. This had a really nice taste. The black currant in the tea is sweet without being overly so. I added a bit of rock sugar to the tea which really brought out the black currant taste even more so.
Preparation
Rally glad I got a chance to try this before it was sent off for the season. This is a really refreshing blend! I really like that the spearmint isn’t dominating the cup (though I’m doing a few more steepings so we’ll see) its a refreshing kind of tea. Wish I could say more but I’m busy focusing on this tea….mmmmmm
So I can’t remember who it was that ordered this in a black base, and having tried the usual green base, I’m sooooo wanting to try it in the black base now!
My matcha order was the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
I’m running out of red leaf tins to pop my matcha into so I’ll have to pick up some more in my next order! I ordered this matcha because I was curious as to how close to an Oreo it might be. My nickname for a while in highschool? Was Oreo – in part because I could devour entire bags in no time flat and because it became a game with our friends to have nicknames that we could use the letters in it to mean something else. Anyway…i digress, on with the matcha!
Opening this bag up, the kitchen was soon flooded with cookies n’ cream! I was a little excited because it really does smell like an oreo…only a much better quality oreo haha
I think this would be really good hot, but in my usual fashion, I’m trying it first the way I think it will be “less” tasty. No bananas for me today so my smoothie was a little less thick than i like it to be but nice and cold – just the wake up I needed since the time change is wreaking havoc on me for some reason. This is a tasty matcha. I’m beginning to wonder if red leaf can make a matcha that i dislike! Again, this doesn’t compare to cheesecake and caramel but it’s a nice change of pace. I keep expecting to see flecks of black cookies in my matcha!

This is totally a tea for a long steep. When I initially opened the bag the cinnamon was overwhelming. Th only other honey bush tea from frank that I’ve had (and really enjoyed) was the cinnamon bun tea which has oooooodles of cinnamon. So needless to say I was a little worried when I opened this one. The instructions call for 6-10 mins of steeping on the package so I popped it on my desk and did some work. What was fantastic is that as I sat there working away, the strawberry flavour started increasing and taking over the cinnamon. Soon I had a delicious smelling strawberry cup of tea.
When I finally got around to trying the tea it was delicious! I actually want to steep it a little longer to see if I can bring out more of the strawberry taste as it still had a bit more cinnamon than I wanted. Thankfully I love cinnamon :)
aaaaand that concludes the last of that sample from stacy! Good thing i just placed an order with her to pick up more of this AND the grapefruit dragonwell so that I can do a taste comparision :) I really enjoy this one. Maple cookie delicious goodness!
Ok so first off…apparently i forgot how hot my tea traveller keeps hot water, so I kinda of burnt my mouth on this one. That being said, i do NOT like this tea. Rather than it being the jasmine that’s throwing me off, which I thought might happen – it’s the rose petals. They are coming on strong! I almost feel like this is a rose petal tea more than it is anything else.
I’m glad i got the chance to try this in sample size before it was discontinued. I feel like i might enjoy the winter 8 treasures yabao so I may give that a shot since it doesn’t have the rose petals.
I actually wish it tasted more like the initial scent of this tea. That smell was so promising when i opened up the package!
Yep heh could very well be that my sample wasn’t balanced enough and had too much rose….our not. But hey, that’s alright :)
I received this as a sample when I was in the store in San Francisco. I was glad because it was one of the teas I had wanted to try. This is the bagged version, but I assume the loose version would be similar. The scent from this one is really strong. It smells like sour cherry. When steeped, this tastes like a subdued version of how the smell would taste…if that makes sense. Id be interested in trying the green tea version to see how it compares. While this won’t be an order for me ever, because of the taste, I wouldn’t turn down a cup if offered
Another hit for me from Red Leaf! Now I have to say that this is NOT as yummy and delicious for me as the caramel or the cheesecake matcha but it’s still what I’d hoped for when I ordered it.
My matcha order was the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
As usual I have Red Leaf’s small tins as well, to keep all of my matcha looking the same. I also love that you can peel the label off their bags to put on the tin! Saves me having to try and make my own label.
I ordered the Berry matcha specifically so that I could use it in my smoothies in the morning. We’re heading into winter here (although some would tell you we’re already in winter! But I refuse…I’m still wearing dresses to work with bare legs!). I want to be able to have that Berry taste all winter long instead of having to fumble with frozen fruit or paying up the wazooo for fresh fruit. I also ordered this one since it hasn’t been reviewed yet, and I was hoping to return the favour for Red Leaf by getting at least one review up.
I was a bit worried with the Robust flavouring because the Pear matcha I ordered was too strong in that flavouring, but this is alright!
As usual, cutting open the bag is always exciting for me. It’s that first whiff of the delicious things to come that keeps me wanting more lol I don’t know how to place this smell…it’s like a mishmash of fruit/sweet flavouring.
Soooo even though this was purchased to have in my smoothies, I opted to make a hot latte with this one. I wish I could say that its because that’s what I really wanted, but mostly it was because we didn’t have much in the house. Coming back from vacation on thanksgiving = no stores are open except the small convenience stores!
Now this MAY turn a few people off but I didn’t mind it. This matcha reminds me of the old school Flintstone vitamins that used to be around when I was growing up (are they still?). Kids used to eat them as candy, which of course was seriously expensive candy haha. I need to have this a few more times to figure out the balance of matcha to liquid that will make this perfect. However, I’m not disappointed! Really can’t wait till I can get groceries and make a proper smoothie with this one. Perhaps a Berry Caramel smoothie…. hmmmmm

I was SO going to order this, but I was torn on whether or not to because I wasn’t sure how it would smell. Even though I love berry, I already have the boysenberry and cherry, and I found the strawberry more candy sweet than anything else. Would you say this is on the candy side?
Let me get back to you on that rachel (along with the coffee review) heh. I have the black cherry at home that Im hoping to try tonight and it’ll give me a better sense of the sweet factor in comparision. I want to say no..but then it reminded me of flintstone vitamins which, i suppose in retrospect are kind of artificial and candy like.
Mmmmmm back to work “monday.” I’d forgotten how busy it is coming in to work and how noisy people can be in the morning. Good thing for me i had my traveller’s mug full of this tea! I only have enough of this left for one more cup so it’s a little sad. BUT it also means more room in my cupboard for another order! I really love the velvety tones in this tea, and also if you’re anywhere near a Ghiradelli chocolate place…go buy some of their pumkin spice chocolates. Don’t like pumpkin? Just do it anyway. It’s their limited edition chocolate for this time of year and it is HEAVENLY! Rich wonderful chocolate wrapped pumpkin spice caramel…omg so good…especially with this tea. :)
Ghiradelli also does not support child labor and pays workers a fair wage!!! I support them for that too (and love the chocolate)!
Thanks for reminding me of how tasty that tea is! I only had a sample, but really enjoyed it, & I have to remember to get more with my next Butiki order!
