drank Golden Fleece by Verdant Tea

I feel that I’ve come to an important step in my tea odyssey to drink this tea. When I first started hanging around steepster I kept seeing references to this ‘golden fleece’, whatever that was. Everyone was raving about it. So, here I am, with a cup of this famous limited harvest tea in front of me, all the way from China just for me to enjoy. It’s a pretty cool feeling.
Sniffing the brewed tea I accidentally stuck the tip of my nose in the brew. :P Whoops.
Okay. I read this tea was silky, so I felt I was prepared. But I was not prepared for this tea to just slide down my throat like that! It’s like I went to swallow, and bloop, it’s already gone.
Whoa, there’s the sweetness.
I just finished my first cup and the aftertaste is really hitting me. This is a tea to be followed by no other at a tea party, that’s for sure!
Second steep I’m really picking up on the spiciness. Still really nice and mellow. I’m also picking a bit of cocoa; I can definitely smell that in the wet leaves.
Third steep the tea is changing a little; I don’t how to say so, but it is. More earthiness maybe? Perhaps this is the morel showing up here? I have no idea really, but it’s good.
Fourth steep those morel notes are coming out further. I also taste mineral; that warming spiciness is still there.
At first I was hesitant to spend $4 on only 7g of tea but I am glad I did, especially now that it’s out of stock and I may never get to have more! This tea would be perfect on a snow day; you could hours picking part it’s nuances or just plain enjoying it.

I saved the leaves from my first try of this tea and put it in the fridge to cold brew. 2 days later, it is delicious! The spices leave my tongue tingling! I am sipping it but I think I am going to leave it for another day and see how amazing it is tomorrow. XD

I took a large bottle cold brewed to the Highland Games in Estes Park and it was perfect!

This is one of the Verdant teas that seemed like a must-try. I am only in the middle of the first steep and I feel like I must start talking about this immediately! I used about 3g for my medium sized mug, and gave it a rinse like they suggested. Then steeped for 25 seconds. It starts off honey sweet and leaves a cinnamon-y tingly feeling on the tongue. To me it is distinctly sweet potato, but it’s a sweet potato loaded with spice and served with something meaty and fruity at the same time. ?? It’s amazing! My mouth feels like its in the middle of a turkey dinner!
Second steep 40 seconds. Pretty similar to the first steep but that spice is a bit more prominent.
Third steep 50 seconds. I am eating lunch with this steep so the notes are difficult to distinguish but it doesn’t seem to have lost any flavor.
This is delicious!

I am so thrilled my Verdant order came today! I ordered over 20 sample sizes of teas I had been wanting to try. This is the first I am trying of the bunch! And I am not disappointed. I am drinking it straight up, no milk or honey this time. I am pleased with the balance of spice in this blend. I like the spice to linger in the aftertaste, and this certainly does. But it’s not too strong either, and it has a really tasty chocolate undertone that must be from the Laoshan black base; I ordered a sample of that as well but haven’t tried it yet. This is just amping up my anticipation to try the rest of the samples!

I love these cute little tuochas! I made the mistake of using the term ‘tea cake’ in the hearing of my daughter and I had to make sure she didn’t try to eat one! Hehe
I rinsed this tea for about 20 seconds, then steeped for one minute. The first steep was very mellow and complex; the only word I can think of to describe it is wood. But, that makes it sound bad. It’s a good thing!
Second steep, 2 min. This was my favorite steep! Still had that woodsy taste but much sweeter.
3rd steep was a combination of flavors of the first two, but I think I needed to steep it a little longer as it seemed to lose the complexity it had at first.
This is a comforting brew that I enjoyed! Thank you to Teavivre and Angel for another generous sample from them!

Huh. I was afraid to try this because of the hibiscus but it’s really not bad! I wouldn’t mind trying a version of cinnamon/hibiscus/tulsi that was a little more amped up, as in, a loose leaf version. :) The addition of lemon peel and orange peel adds a nice citrus note; thankfully it’s not too citrusy and not too tart either.
This is the last of the tea bags TeaEqualsBliss sent me; thank you very much!!

This is a bagged tea sent to me by TeaEqualsBliss! Thanks lady! :-)
I was a bit apprehensive to try this one. I have to be in the right mood for an herbal tea. Tonight’s it! I am overtired and have one of those weird headaches where it hurts behind your eyes; if this does help me sleep tonight it would be a plus!
The smell is not very promising. This will be only my second rooibus ever.
It’s not that great. Pretty boring, and tastes like tea bag. Not much lemon flavor. It’s not bad enough to dump down the drain but I’m not going to go searching it out either!

Edit: this is my 100th tasting note! Yay!

Bonnie

Hooray for you reaching 100! Big milestone!!!!

I love tea. I first tasted loose leaf when my grandpa brought some back from Russia and I remember just savoring it. Not sure what kind it was; all I remember is that it was loose leaf and it was good. =)

I really enjoy oolong, jasmine tea, and white tea. I especially love those black teas with chocolate notes! Also, chai is a constant favorite. I enjoy green tea, but need to be in the mood for it to actually want it.

As far as tisanes go, I enjoy chamomile and occasionally a mint. I am interested to try rooibus and honey bush. I do prefer teas without artificial flavoring but I’m willing to try most things.

I know next to nothing about puerh, but I like what I have tried so far.

I am consistently amazed at the flavors contained in one leaf. I am on a quest to discover all of them! Slowly, though. Good tea is expensive. :P

Other things I enjoy: Books. My family. Truth. Campfires. Animal Rescue. Gardening. Sushi. Mountain biking. Documentaries. Trees. Music. Culture. Sour cream raisin pie. Not necessarily in that order. :P
