From Silk Road Teas

Grown on an island off the coast of Zhejiang Province, this hand-crafted tea is an excellent choice as an everyday green tea. Fresh green leaves brew to a nutty and vegetal flavor with a sweet aftertaste. Cups to a green-gold liquor. Brew for 2 minutes in water temperature of 175 – 185 degrees.

(Added for Organic Variety New Tea) Characterized by flat broad leaves with hints of rich gold colors and a delicious aroma, organic Dragon Well is an early-pick leaf that offers a nutty, sweet flavor. Handmade in the traditional manner of firing in a wok, this tea is excellent alone or after a heavy meal. Brew for 1 – 2 minutes in water temperature of 165 – 185 degrees.

What I had left of this tea was over a year old, so I decided to cold brew a big pitcher of it to use it up. That’s the main reason I don’t usually make my tea iced- it uses up a lot of tea leaves! This is a good thing however, when cleaning out the tea drawer. :-) I will update note tomorrow when I actually get to drink it!

Edit: Hooo-weee I made this a bit strong! Wow..these leaves had a whole lot of punch left!

Writing as someone who doesn’t generally like green tea, this is just about my favorite: strong, rich, complex flavor.

OK was some of the best Lung Ching I have ever had at the cheapest price I have ever paid for it! First of all, I was hesitant to order 4 ounces of a tea I hadn’t tasted but having read in Heiss’ new book that this was a reputable company, I got 1/4 pound each of four different Chinese green teas. Dry leaf smells like a classic Lung Ching…toasty goodness! The leaves were larger than most Dragon Well I’ve tried before so I added an extra teaspoon to about 10 ounces water at 175F. Brews golden and smells delicious. Taste is toasty-almost yeasty breadish with a nutty background. I can’t wait to try the second steep. Second was not quite as flavorful as the first — having been spoiled by oolongs lately, I have to remember the greens don’t last as long. :( Oh well, at the price of $2.25 an ounce, two steeps is good. I like that all the teas came in resealable containers too because presently, all our Teavana containers are full.

Mastress Alita’s January sipdown challenge Tea #3: New tea

additional notes:  Since sipping down a NEW tea would be near impossible for me, I decided that “new” could mean a tea from the first three pages of my Steepster cupboard if ordered by ‘recent’, so here we go.  This one counts as “new” to me? Yes? Sure.  It was a lovely sendoff- somehow I was tasting mostly almond, actual almond.  I’m glad I could finish this great green before it was years old.

I think dragonwell is my favorite green tea variety—it sounds like you choose a good one!

No sir, i don’t like it. Some of Silk Road’s stock might be getting a bit old, considering that 2010 wasn’t a great year for tea in china. But this stuff did nothing for me.

Nice golden color after brewing, and a great aroma as well. This tea definitely has a good toasty, nutty flavor to it. Pretty happy for my first go at Lung Ching.
