206 Tasting Notes
Yay finally one of the rose teas that I truly enjoyed! Thank you Sephanie for the variety of rose teas:) I truly loved the selection I will have to add this one to my shopping cart. The rose pairs perfectly with the green tea. Its not too complex, just simple. Love it. And I love the story behind the tea. How and why it was created. It makes me want to buy it right now just so I can help the cause. But I cannot afford to:/ It will have to wait in my shopping list until I can. I have two more left Stephanie !! I can’t wait for you to get mine:)
Preparation
Man! I was looking forward to this one… After the white rose tea I just had yesterday. This is another tea from Stephanie and I don’t know what went wrong but I didn’t smell any mint. After steeping it for the correct amount of time, the water was untouched, not a drop of liquor in it. Not even the slightest discoloration. So I tasted it and it tasted of soap:/ rose soap. No white tea flavor or mint. I have no idea what happened. :/ dang it. It got such great ratings… I wanted this to be good. Ill have to try again some other time. 3 more teas left in Stephanie’s swap. Sip down!
My last one for the night from Stephanie. I was very excited to try this one. I got home from the first night out to dinner in the new city of ours since we moved and I went straight to this tea for bed. The smell when I opened the bag was amazing!!! Exactly like a cinnamon roll, all down to the dough and frosting. Amazing. As I was steeping it, the smell intensified. However the taste was mainly cinnamon, you can slightly taste the dough and the frosting is in the after taste. It has a creamy essence to it, but just a tad. I will have to try this in the morning as a latte or even iced or both eventually! Thank you again Stephanie for this generous amount in our swap:)
Another sample from Stephanie !!! I was so excited to try this!!! I absolutely love Butiki Teas Watermelon Xylophone and I dont know why but just the look of this tea reminded me of that. And guess what?! I love this one too! The odd thing is though, I absolutely can not stand the actual cantaloupe melon, but love cantaloupe flavored things. My first encounter with cantaloupe flavors was when I went on this boba/bubble tea/smoothie kick and cantaloupe became my absolute favorite. Odd, i know. ha ha. Well anyways… at first glance this tea is so beautiful. The blooms are breathtaking. The smell is very…hmmm… cantaloupey. ha ha. I love it. i love it. I absolutely love it. Thank you thank you thank you Stephanie …I just wish there was so much more of it! I want this iced but unfortunately there is barely enough for one more serving. I have hover been re steeping this. I am on the third steep already and am still loving ever drop of it. I just really wish I had the money to order this, but I am a student, on my own. Definitely on my wishlist. Amazing blend Butiki Tea. I love everything you do!
The watermelon xylophone is one of my faves too :) and this one of course. Have you tried the creamy eggnog or maple pecan oolong? Those are the other butiki teas I can’t live without!
I had this for breakfast this morning. I do not know why but I love rose teas. Maybe its because when I was little I loved these mints that literally tasted like a rose scent and then had a little rose seed in the middle and I have yet to find them anywhere anymore. "/ I would love to have those again. Anyways.. back to this tea. I am determined to get at least 4 teas sipped and logged today from Stephanie ’s swap.
This is my tea from her cute little package, and this is the one I was most excited about. Unfortunately this steep, all I tasted was green tea and rose. I was confused though because on the package it says white tea but in here says green tea ha ha. It did steep like a white tea and the color of the liquor was that of a white tea so i say it is a white tea ha ha. I will have to steep again and see if I can find the lavender, mint and jasmine. :) thank you Stephanie for this full package, and I cannot wait to see what different types of things I can do with tea. I love rose and floral teas cold steeped:)
I am usually intimidated by all the “fancy” teas, I feel like I do not deserve to drink them because I know little about them, and nothing about there background like most of the steepsters on here. But I have to say I was rather surprised that I really enjoyed this tea. The aroma was that of floraly, orchid, and honey:) the flavor was the same the first steep. As it cooled, the flavor became stronger. I love this tea. I only have the half ounce sample of this, but with how many steepings you get from each serving I am glad this one will be around for awhile. Thank you Verdant tea! I feel fancy drinking this:)
You don’t have to earn the right to drink certain teas. If you have them in your house, and you enjoy them, you should be drinking them. Drink what you like. If that’s a Verdant Oolong or a supermarket tea bag, it doesn’t matter as long as you are enjoying it.
I cold steeped this one over night last night and had it for lunch today. I have to say this was a really pretty color and was really neat to watch it steep. The color bleeding into the water. The smell reminded me of a citrusy fruit punch. The flavor the same with a touch of tart. I really enjoyed this one. So far DAVIDsTEA has not let me down:D I’m loving having summer as an excuse to make all these iced teas everyday:D I wish the flavors were stronger, but some how I just can not get the hang of steeping in boiling water and then turning it into iced tea. I never get it right. :/ It always tastes funky. Any tips?
Maybe not so helpful as I’m not good at measuring, but what I often do for these fruity ones is brew strong in boiled water (maybe double or triple strength) and if I want a glass then, will pour over ice after 8-10 minutes or so. I then fill the container with cold water for steeping longer in the fridge to have later.
If you are finding the flavors not strong enough when you cold steep, but are enjoying them when the tea is hot brewed, I would just hot brew and then let cool. I can never get the correct ratio of leaf to water to ice, when I hot steep and then pour over ice. I just hot brew as normal, then let it cool to room temp on the counter, then put it in the fridge. I will often brew multiple steeps and just dump them together, let it cool, put it in the fridge. I know this doesn’t work if you want iced tea NOW, but it is quicker then cold steeping.
If you are finding the teas lacking when cold steeping, I think you need more leaf. I usually use 1.5 times as much leaf when I cold steep as when I hot brew. If I normally use 1 tsp/cup hot brew, I would use 1.5/cup to cold steep.
I think it depends on the tea. Some teas are AMAZING cold steeped, other I prefer to hot steep and let cool.
This is just how I do it, hope you find some thing that works for you.
Caile so you brew it stronger then usual and pour it over ice and then you re steep the leaves as a cold brew? did I get that right?
Dexter3567 Thanks that helps alot. I will have to try that and compare the flavors with some of the ones I have already cold steeped. I like the idea of mixing the different brews:) thank you for all the advice:)
Thank you to Stephanie for including this little sample in our swap. I was really tempted to try this as I love anything banana and seeing as chocolate banana is my favorite combination. Sadly… I was not a big fan of it. I am glad I got to try this though. The smell was definitely that of chocolate banana, the taste however was weak and tasted mostly of old banana:/. I did add sugar after and then milk after a few more sips…only masked the banana flavor and brought out the white chocolate. I have a serving left of this maybe ill go nuts a try it as an iced latte. Now that sounds intriguing. :D
ha ha maybe it was a sign. Because if i did end up loving it, i would have been let down knowing I could not buy it. ha ha. Thank you for the sample!
I am really sad. I was looking forward to this tea. It sounded amazing online!!! And when I opened it the colors were beautiful, but the smell, I could not get past. I was a funky, different smell. But I decided, what the heck, why not! I overnighted this one in the fridge and the color was just absolutely breathtaking. A color I have never seen before. Unfortunately the flavor, did not agree with me. The ginger was very overwhelming for my taste. I felt like I was eating the ginger you get with your sushi. The leaves after steeped were so beautiful though! I would keep this tea just for the look… I am really sad that I did not like this tea. I will do a hot steep before I give up on it though. Maybe it will change my mind.
While packing up my room, as I am moving to San Luis Obsipo this weekend after signing my lease on saturday, I sipped on this with breakfast. I love all chai’s and I was very satisfied with this one. Probably one of my new favorites. As it sits though and cools it does tend to get bitter. I will have to try this one as a latte and iced:) Very happy with this persimmon tree tea.
I can’t wait either! :D I love having tea “on the way” though. It’s the best! So glad you liked some of my selections for you so far, too.
one question there is a little sample that has a white label that just says “balance”. what company is that from?
OH! Sorry about that- Nina’s! http://steepster.com/teas/ninas-paris/34933-libra I know its a tiny amount but I wasn’t going to drink it anyway. I do not like rooibos at ALL!
hmmm. interesting. I am not a fan of rooibos either but will definitely try it. No rooibos is left behind before trying:)
Oops, lol.
no oops. I always try them, but they aren’t something I would buy:)
