35 Tasting Notes
I am still trying to figure out pu erhs. This is the first loose leaf type pu erh I’ve ever had. I brewed it as per the instructions from Persimmon Tree – 3 minutes (western style). The liquor is dark – just like black coffee. It smells like burning leaves or cigarette ash – but not in a bad way at all – woodsy and smoky. It is not bitter at all but rather a little smoky. This is the first steep (I did a short rinsing). I do not get any fishy smell at all. This is the first infusion.
Preparation
This green tea behaves much like a white tea imho. I steeped it for the recommended 1 minute the first time but found it much too mild. I steeped it again for a bit longer and got a more flavorful cup. It tastes very light and the liquor is only slightly tinted yellow. Because I do not have much experience with green/white teas in general, and tend to enjoy harsher flavors, I will reframe from giving this one a rating.
Preparation
This was my creation for one of the Design a Tea sample. This tea was so drinkable, sweet and aromatic. The combination smelled to my like the jasmine flower – although neither the honey nor the hazenut where necessarily distinguishable. While personally I might look for a little bit more of identifiable flavors, the combination was very pleasant.
Preparation
I picked this up for two reasons, well three really:
1. I love vanilla
2. I am really getting into rooibos as an alternative to black in the evenings
3. I very much enjoy Teavana’s Vanilla Honeybush and I am looking for others similar to it.
This tea smells like mellow vanilla, nice and warm, not so strong that it overpowers everything. It brews into a dark color. A full bodied liquor that smells nice and tastes sweet but not at all overpowering. It is enjoyable as a dessert treat or a late night yummy.
It is less sweet/strong smelling than Teavana’s but then again no surprise there.
Preparation
This tea is incredibly juicy! It has an astringency almost sourness that you might get drinking orange juice. I am finding that fruity tisanes are not really my favorite flavor. However, this tea is so full of fruity flavor and it smells incredible. I think I will try mixing it with some plain rooibos or black. For those who like fruit tisanes this might be a great choice.
Preparation
Well I tricked myself with this one because I assumed it would taste somewhat like raspberry. However, this tea uses the raspberry leaf – so no raspberry flavor. My mistake.
This is a great afternoon/evening tea. It is mild in taste but somewhat full bodied. A bit woodsy/grassy in a nice way. The liquor is a golden color and the smell reminiscent of an oolong earthiness.
Edit: I got home tonight and was craving this tea again. So I made a pot. I also hiked up the rating as this tea seems to be growing on me.
Preparation
I had been wanting to try a milk black tea and I finally got around to put it in my tumbler on my way out the door this morning.
This tea tastes to me as if I had brewed some black tea and added some milk, in just the right mix. It is great as a morning tea and while I took it without honey, I think with a teaspoon of honey this would be perfect -
Preparation
This tea is strong. Smells the way I imagine a breakfast tea should smell. A bit bitter but somehow, drinking this piping hot makes me feel up and at’em! The bitterness increases as it cools down.
I enjoy it very much with some honey and milk – a good replacement for a breakfast coffee in my opinion.
Preparation
This is my first oolong. The first steep was a very soft flavor, a bit wood/grass like. The second steep tastes more floral and grassy and a bit more complex flavoring.
I tend to favor black teas and sweet flavors but I want to try more oolongs, although my unrefined palate might not appreciate them sufficiently.
You didn’t like Green Caramel? howww? haha
haha I did! I just wanted to try it once more with different water/tea ratio – I got most of the caramel smell but not much of the flavor.
Do you tend to pick up caramel in teas? I don’t like /any/ teas with Marshmallow for example, mainly because I can’t taste the marshmallow at all.
That’s a really good point… I do not know I think this is the first caramel flavor in tea I’ve ever had, I’ll have to try others and see if it’s me :)
