My second sipping of this. The first time I could not taste much. This time i did 2 tsp in a pot and let it steep longer. Definitely taste it now.

To me it’s not that good of a taste but I can see how it can appeal to some. WIth my recommendation, I put no, but it could be yes for a certain crowd. To me it reminds me of alcohol and tobacco. Those two aren’t bad in themselves with tea or other flavors, but this isn’t my favorite from Harney by far. I wouldn’t order again but it’s drinkable.

With my remaining I may mix it with other teas and experiment. I have a full tin left.

I still don’t taste any smoke or lapsang. It is strong - but I do not enjoy Harney’s Lapsang much, this isn’t what I’d call a smokey tea.

This was another freebie satchet sample.

Is it horrible? No. It’s just a very basic, bland English Breakfast. There are better blends out there, especially from Harney and Sons. Without sugar it was strong, bold, bland and one-dimensional. Adding sugar enhanced the flavor quite a bit and made it much more enjoyable. Hard to explain, but I like English Breakfast with a little more layers. This is passable, but not something I would order.

Would I recommend? Yes for some, no for others.

Depends what you’re looking for.

I am not crazy about mint tea - I don’t mind it in a blend. This one is pure mint and smooth, so if you want a candy cane type or full mint, this may be up your alley. It’s strong but not artificial tasting, and reminds me a bit of mint candies or candy canes. Sugar or sweeteners aren’t needed.

I may have oversteeped slightly with my satchet sample. I steeped 3 minutes. User error could be to blame, but I’m not sure. Either way, this was extremely bitter and that’s all I taste. The tea is a golden yellow and I detest bitterness in tea, especially when it’s overpowering.

Not going to do a rating of this one since the sampler is old and I don’t feel fully fair with the flavor notes. I liked it, but it’s not something I would order more of to drink on a casual basis. Definitely different. First time trying a Genmaicha or with the rice. I like the toasted feel but did not catch more of the green tea flavor enough to really tell. I brewed for the recommended time of 30 seconds with 1 tsp., then brewed slightly more after a few sips.

I’m sipping down old tea samples that have probably lost a little of their potency, so bear with me. I’m trying to clear through several of them today. I had a sample of this in the cupboard awhile. It’s unusual for me since I’m more of a black tea drinker familiar with that; green is a world waiting for me to try.

I liked this one. It’s mild but different. I steeped the minute with 2 tsp. as recommended, then added a bit more time to see the difference (again, older). It’s very earthy and makes me think of mushrooms a little. It’s roasted and cozy. I’d buy more of this one.

I love hojicha! And it’s definitely a good choice of green tea for a black tea drinker. :)

Cameron, it was a nice surprise and I agree, I’m curious on trying others of this type. :)

Hojicha is one of the green teas I enjoy as a black tea drinker as well!

Lupiress, I can send you some samples to try if you’d like!

Lupiressmoon

That’s so sweet of you, Cameron! I don’t really have many samples so don’t trade I’m afraid. Expecting some new ones soon, been doing some small orders

I’m not a regular sipper of Darjeeling, I’ve had some I didn’t enjoy as much. To me this one seems fuller and silky, a small undertaste that’s pleasant but I can’t pinpoint exactly. It’s not rich or potent, but it’s pleasant. I don’t think it’s something I would purchase another container of, but it’s a nice cup of tea for this Sunday afternoon and I can’t find complaints about it. Earthy and comforting.

A pleasant tea with a small undertaste of chocolate and a sense of something nutty at initial sip.

What I don’t sense is spice, cinnamon, pepper, chai. I steeped a bit longer than recommended, and added sugar after initial sips to see if brought the spice complexities out. It did not. Sniffing the mix, it has a chocolate smell but not spice or chai.

Drinkable but it does not deliver what it advertised, so I cannot wholly recommend

I did get the pepper at the bottom of the cup.

Looks like my note wasn’t saved when entering on the mobile phone - this is a beautiful purple/blue color and much fun. You get a tart that isn’t overwhelming, a fruity hot tea that’s full without needing sugar or additives, it’s bold and fragrant. I haven’t tried this iced but heard that’s recommended for this one. Will buy a larger portion and experiment with it.

Finally! I sample for affordable lapsang souchongs often. This is the closest I’ve found for a replacement for the strong and enjoyable Zen’s tea life from Canada. Drank two cups of this tonight, absolutely delicious. very smokey. I can finally stop my hunt again.

Bio

I have a drink obsession in general – daily lattes and coffees, and of course teas of many varieties. I mainly drink hot tea in Florida, but still enjoy the occasional southern sweet iced.

My preference is black tea, although I’m open to trial and error with others. I like the old fashioned English style tea cups, tea parties, food pair-ups, mini desserts and pies, cubes of sugar, small collection of Rose Red tea pets, you get the idea. I will always have an old fashioned tea kettle on the stove, but have recently purchased an electric tea kettle that I absolutely adore. I’m lazy by nature, so I have switched to stuffing tea bags for the loose teas to save on clean-up and disposal with other strainers.

I love smokey teas, non-bitter, not overly astringent, strong tea background mixed with flavored teas, no artificial sweetener tastes, balanced florals IF there must be a floral. I used to love spice, but it has to be done right. A former chai fan – now it reminds me of colored pencils. Cinnamon sounds good but so many teas have it artificial or odd tasting. Same goes for chocolate, some things have to be done just right to work.

Most missed tea place and tea: Plum Brandy Cheesecake by Butiki

Very picky with anything Roobios, and Darjeeling/Oolong are hit or miss depending on the blend and my taste buds. Mint works in a mood but I’m not a big fan. Gravitate toward good name blends and fall themes when doing yet more sampler orders.

I like adding a cube of sugar to almost all teas, not usually milks. I don’t like stevia or any artificial sweetener taste. I adore honey, but to me it doesn’t suit tea unless I have a sore throat as both the tea and the honey change their flavor profile quite a bit if I mix them.
