871 Tasting Notes
I am pleasantly surprised. This tea has a strong citrus scent, smells exactly like grapefruit juice. I was expecting a tart tea. What I got was a subtle citrus tea with spicey notes, slightly tart aftertaste that does not linger long. I had anticipated needing some kind of sweetener with this tea, but I did not need to add anything. A little disappointed it didn’t taste like grapefruit juice, but it makes a delicious, refreshing, smooth tea.
Preparation
I thought I had to try this tea, just from the name and the description. My hopes were not too high after reading some of the reviews here.
On first smell of the dry tea, it definitely has a chery cola smell, but it is almost medicinal and definitely artificial. It did remind me of those sour cola gummy candies.
On brewing, the liqour smelled the same as the dry tea, but the taste was horrible. It had a faint cherry taste and very medicinal. Very flat tasting. Left an astringent after taste. Not much change with adding a litte, and then a lot of sweetener.
Not sure if I will finish my sample of this one. I may try it with the addition of some vanilla, but am not holding my breath.
Preparation
This is my all time favorite chai. Unfortunately the company does not make it anymore :(
I have been hanging on to one last can for way too long, using it sparingly for special occaisions. And also hiding it from my sister, who is also in love with the blend.
This chai mix is different as it blends green and black tea with spices, I have found no other chai tea similar and have been unsuccessful at re-creating it myself.
The tea is bold and spicey, but does not burn your tastebuds, the mix of black and green tea is smooth.
I will be sad when I use the last of this tea.
Preparation
This tea smells absolutely divine. You can smell notes of citrus, orange, and grapefruit. After brewing, it still retains the smell of the dry tea. The taste is a light bitter citrus, but improves with sweetener. The taste is not as defined as the smell, but you can still taste the orange and grapefruit and there is a slight sour berry taste (almost like cherry). Despite the citrus flavour, it seems to be a relaxing blend, perfect for after a heavy meal.
This is a herbal tisane.
1.5 tsp in 8oz water
Smell of dry tea: very aromatic, notes of citrus, orange and grapefruit.
Appearance of dry tea: various different sized pieces of dried fruit, apple slices, orange peel, and flower petals.
Appearance of steeped tea: deep ruby red colour, dense.
Smell of steeped tea: aromatic, light citrus smell, more bitter citrus than sweet citrus.
Taste of steeped tea: citrus fruits, orange, grapefruit, slight sour cherry taste. Bitter. With rock sugar (one piece), sweeter taste. Light and refreshing.
Preparation
After reading the description of this tea, I could not wait to try it.
When I first smelled the tea, it smelled delicious. It smelled like a champagne mimosa with strawberries. Once the tea was brewed, the liqour smelled quite artificial. The strawberry no longer smelled like real strawberry.
Overall the taste is not disappointing, but I wish it tasted less artificial. I found the rose flavour overtook most of the flavour in the tea. It almost had the flavour of champagne but not quite, which was perplexing to my taste buds – I couldn’t quite place the taste.
I did need to add some rock sugar to sweeten it up a bit.
I will finish what I have but will most likely not purchase again.
Preparation
I feel like I am doing something wrong with this tea.
I used 8 pearls in an 8 oz. cup. The pearls appeared to have a hard time unfurling. Even after leaving them in the cup for 10 minutes only one leaf completely unfurled, and the others only partially. The liquor is almost clear, slightly straw colour. The colour becomes a bit darker the longer you steep it, but still remains clear. The taste was very mild and mellow, not so much vegetal or grassy, but a bit more like wheat or grain, slightly sweet.
I generally don’t like to steep for to long, but this is a tea that I can leave the tea leaves in the bottom of the cup for as long as I’m drinking it, and it doesn’t adversely affect the taste.
I am going to play around a bit with water temp and steeping time to see what happens.
Preparation
My new favorite!!! This tea has a strong smokey smell. It retains a smokey flavour once brewed, but is not so strong that is overpowers. Once brewed it makes a medium brown with slight hint of red liqour. The smokey taste is slightly sweet. There is a bit of a smokey after taste but it is not unpleasant. Reminds me not so much of a campfire but of a smoke house, (ie. used to smoke meats). This tea makes you feel warm.
I brewed a second cup and added two organic rose buds (also from Cuppa’T). I was inspired by the posts of Anna Karenina from The Republic of Tea (which is on my wish list). While the smokey flavour is still present, the rose buds smooth out the taste. The rose buds a bit more sweetness. There is also less aftertaste, then when brewed plain. Love this tea!!!
Looking forward to many more cups of this one.
Preparation
Today I made this tea iced. I used 8 tsp in 64 oz. of hot water. I added 1/4 cup white sugar for sweetener. It brewed a dark ruby red liqour. Smelled sweet and fruity. It tastes sweet and fruity, the liquid feels heavy in my mouth. It tastes and feels like I am drinking a fruit juice! I am happy I tried this one iced today. I am going to have to do this again in the summer, considering it is currently a cold winter where I am right now. But as I’m drinking it, I’m dreaming of the beach :)
Preparation
I don’t mind this tea, although it is not my favorite. There is a fine line between getting the right steep or steeping too long. If it steeps for too long it gets quite bitter. It leaves a harsh sour aftertaste in your mouth. I find it makes a good mint green tea when mixed 1:1 with spearmint (I used David’s Tea spearmint).
I will most likely finish the tea I have but will try other brands/companies for something a bit more smooth.
Preparation
I have had experiences with Gunpowder tea being a little too strong or too lite when it comes to the use of mint. I never experienced much bitterness but mostly tannins from the bulk tea I buy from World Market stores. I recommend to get Gunpowder in Adagio, it has
a smoky profile, with a touch of nuts and straw. Its not minted however, but goes well with fresh mint and has a balance between tea and the mint.
It’s been just one of those days. Woke up late, broke two glasses (one of which contained milk and got all over my breakfast of toast). So had to go to work with no breakfast and bad Canadian winter roads; took an extra half hour to get to work.
As I’m feeling sorry for myself, my awesome co-worker brings me in my usual order from Tim Hortons: a steeped tea. I am forever indebted!
While it is not the most delicious tea it still somehow manages to hit the right spot every time. It is dark, almost looks like black coffee, the orange pekoe flavour is strong, but not bitter, it feels heavy and it leaves a creamy after taste.
My day is now back on track, and thanks to this tea(and my co-worker), this day looks like it will be pretty good after all.
