This ones almost gone. One more serving perhaps.
Flavor was a little more woody this time, less malty. I prefer the malty taste, so I might need to order a different brand next time.

A very smooth black tea. Dark brown color. No bitterness. The leaves were a similar color mixture as golden monkey, but smaller. No maltiness in the flavor however.

Preparation
Boiling 1 min, 0 sec

Haven’t heard of this type of Keemun before. How does it differ from Hao Ya and Mao Feng?

Kryptryx

No idea. Its the only Keemun I’ve tried. I was very pleased with it, and do intend to try others. When I can get some that is.

Geoffrey Norman

Canton Tea Co. puts out a killer Keemun. And Jing Tea puts out a Keemun Mao Feng. A company called Vicony Teas also puts out primarily Keemun. They tout in their bio that their family was there from Keemun’s very inception.

drank Nai Xiang Oolong by TeaSpring

Somewhat dissapointed. The milky aroma is very slight, and brewed, hardly present. Not a good example of a milk oolong. Longer steeping may bring out more flavor, but maybe also more bitterness.

Short steep. Tea still has good body, while very light in color. Very soothing.

Is this the same as a pre-rain Dragon Well? I adore that stuff.

Kryptryx

No idea. The name comes from their web site. I’ve not heard of pre-rain.

Geoffrey Norman

No problem. I was just wondering. Qing Ming usually refers to a spring festival in China. Picking of tea leaves often takes place after. I had no idea if it correlated with rainfall or not, hence the query. :-)

drank Lapsang Souchong by Wegmans

Had to try this. The leaves were very smoky, similar to a barbegue grill. The flavor of the brew less so. And I didn’t enjoy it. And I think it gave me a headache.

Kryptryx

Followed it up with some dragon well green tea, and it all went away.

Jaime

Sad that you got a headache from the tea! I wonder if it’s smokier than the LS that I drink…

Tabby

I can’t get into lapsang souchong either. :/

JacquelineM

I’ve been taking smoky baby steps but am still too much of an infant for lapsang :)

jenny wren

I love LS, but you can’t really think “tea” in your head when you drink it…I crave it on those nights I wish I was by the camp-fire under the stars.

This time, there was a distint milky taste. Not as present as a milky oolong, but definite. More so as the tea cooled.

I’ve got to get me some of this tea. All the reviews make it sound so good.

Broke the lid of my tea pot. Needed some Tea I could trust. This is the one.

So sorry to hear about the lid. Maybe it’s fixable? I’m going to also have to find a milk oolong to try; I keep reading such great reviews!

Kryptryx

It was glass. First my glass strainer, now the glass lid. The cosmos is telling me I need to upgrade my stuff.

Jaime

I wouldn’t argue with the cosmos, then.

Meghann M

I feel bad “liking” this. Hope you find a suitable replacement soon.

I also keep reading about milk oolong and it is making me very curious…

Just to confirm, used water at 180. Not as good as boiling water. This oolong is a very dark brown, almost black. Maybe it does need to be treated as close to black tea.

Tried more tea than usual. Improved the flavor. Delicious when cooled, but still warmer than room temperature.

I used extra tea, and a short steep. I let the brew cool a bit before tasting. The medium body had a very smooth texture. The taste floral and sweet. No bitterness. Bumping the rating.
