This is my second cup today at the office. This morning I enjoyed Blackberry Guayusa after a late night watching the VMAs. I had a bit of an upset stomach after lunch, and this delight had the most ‘healing’ ingredients. Not to mention, it’s one of my absolute favourites. I’m finally about three cups away from running out of my tin of this one. A solid two years later. Now we shall look at another H&S order.

Perhaps I’ll make a cup of Tokyo next.

drank White Rhino by Butiki Teas

I’m spending my Friday evening studying calculus, rather than seeing Mission Impossible with my girl. Sigh.

I was really in the mood for a light tasting Lupicia green oolong, you know, for inspiration for calculus. Well, imagine my surprise in knowing they are nowhere to be found. I searched our entire flat. I was just rattled. So, right to the big guns it was.

White Rhino. Ahh, White Rhino. How I love thee. This tea has always been nothing short of phenomenal. The sweetness and hay combination just can’t be beat. I will be forever saddened once my stash is gone. I’ve been on the lookout for something similar I could order when the time comes, but suggestions are always more than welcome.

This one was just sooooooo fantastic! It will be missed, as will all Butiki Teas.

Enjoying this at my desk this morning, sitting in my dark office. I love when I don’t have to turn on the lights and the sun powers my day.

This tea is delightful as usual. The blackberry lime mix is just fantastic. Once my wee stash is gone, this will be terribly missed. It’s a perfect break from coffee too. I’ve now officially stashed my desk with a few different types of tea for the office. My last two mornings have included a cup of tea at my desk, while replying to emails. Now to make that a habit.

I’ve yet to find a replacement for Stacy’s guayusa blends

This is one of my favourites. Had this one last night from my awesome teapot with my favourite girl. Definitely a great combination. Even though this tea in now two years old, it’s still great. It was Alexa’s first time having it, and she loved it too. Perhaps a H&S order is in the near future. Some new samples, and old favourites would be nice to reinvigorate the tea love.

drank Tokyo by Harney & Sons

I haven’t been feeling tea for a long time. It seemed to be getting worse and worse. Even Laoshan Black was near to repulsive, and let’s be real – that’s just ridiculous.

Then, this morning, while I was packing up teas to have in my desk, despite this awful feeling, jessiwrites posted a lovely picture of her tea and I felt actual excitement. I had packed Tokyo for work and I thought maybe a green tea would work more in my favour than the black teas I’ve been trying. It seems to have helped, yay!

Tokyo was delightful. I sipped it slowly while I answered emails all morning. It was subtly grassy with a hint of caramel. Maybe this is all I needed to get back in the tea game. I may stick to my two greens – Tokyo and Bangkok – for the time being, at least until I’m brave enough to venture back into my favourite black teas.

drank Ripe Mango Oolong by Lupicia
1444 tasting notes

I opened my teas and pondered what to have on this lovely afternoon I get to sit inside and study deuterostomes. I opened the bag for this one, not expecting much, and the scent wafting out just seemed right.

I really need to be in the proper mood for an oolong, particularly a green oolong. The mango flavour never ceases to amaze me with Lupicia. They are just great with these delicate flavours. I love their pineapple oolong as well. But back to mango – the mango is coming through clearly with the green oolong flavour ever so slightly less, which is perfect for me.

drank Campfire Blend by Verdant Tea

I ordered this one a while ago, in place of Vanilla Citrus Spice being gone. I’ve learned to steep this one longer than the first time I ever had it, which must be at least a year ago now.

The cinnamon comes through clearly, along with the ginger. It’s a delightful second option to Vanilla Citrus, but ultimately I’d take that one over this, because it seems to have more body with the black tea.

Regardless, I just put in a Verdant order and threw in an ounce of this one, just because. It’s never a bad idea to have a tasty herbal around.

“Whoo this is an interesting smell. Whoa. I smell bread. It’s unsettling. Like, right when it comes out of the toaster before we put cashew butter. Unsettling. This is bread. It’s fine. It’s fine to drink, but I don’t know about the scent.” – Alexa

In case you guys didn’t know, I really enjoy Soba Cha. Perhaps she wasn’t ready for this type of tea. I made the evidently fatal error of thinking she had tried genmaicha before.

I find this one comforting and delicious. Whenever I get around to another H&S order, this will be part of it.

Thanks for the sample VariaTea!

For the comparison I’m really getting the stonefruits in this one. Very clearly. I prefer the Tippy.

We decided to each make a different cup to do a comparison of sorts. I put this one in my cup, and Alexa has Golden Dragon Black, Lot 241.

This one reminds me quite a bit of Bailin. It’s light, yet not, with a malty, nearly light syrupy flavour. The syrupy-ness could almost be a light honey flavour, though I am so picky about my honey flavours. It is definitely tasty though.

I love black tea and this is usually what’s in my mug. I’m also happy to enjoy a cup of green or red rooibos (green preferable to red), herbals, oolongs (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted), whites, and subtly flavoured greens (mango or pineapple, yum!).

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it (Camellia Sinensis Earl Grey Cream is one of my favourites).

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan with an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I usually just pick them out of blends).
