2022 sipdown no. 47

I found this tea to have a full mouthfeel and a fair amount of complexity. The mix of black teas in the base is really lovely and ‘soft’, while completely lacking astringency. The flavours are subtle, but add to the tea with almond creating hints of sweetness and pastry-like flavour. I would order this one in the future.

2022 sipdown no. 46

Ahh, any Butiki sipdown is a sad one. I will remember this tea fondly. For my last cup, I cold brewed this 24 hours as I found that cold brewing this made the lime and blackberry pop and this cup was no exception.

You will be missed!

Freshly steeped, the jasmine is quite apparent here with more subtle scents of bergamot and juniper. I’ve perhaps let this cool too much (lukewarm) because most of the flavour is also jasmine. Jasmine seems to be a bit pesky in that it takes over other flavours. Though, I appreciate the black base against the jasmine (as opposed to a green or herbal base which are the only other teas I’ve tried with jasmine).

I have one more bag left, so I’ll try to actually drink it while it’s hot.

I can suggest crushing the berries in the bag with teaspoon to release more from juniper.

I couldn’t pass this up because of how unique it seemed. I loved the idea of mixing coconut with citrus to make it ‘sour’. The steeped scent is very sour lemon-y with hints of coconut peeking through. The overall flavour of this tea is mostly a softened lemon, mellowed out by the coconut. I’m quite interested to try this one chilled.

The name grosses me out ha ha, but I do think coconut and lemon can be nice together!

Courtney

Hahah I initially thought that and scrolled past, then did a reversal and I’m quite happy I did!

Interesting blend for sure!

drank Dandelion Coconut by Teeccino

A tea from Cameron!

This really wasn’t bad, and I was a bit concerned. I added just a splash of soy milk. The dandelion base was exactly what I expected and the coconut flavour wasn’t fake or cloying at all. Overall not a bad cup, but not something I need in my cupboard.

A tea from Cameron

The cinnamon scent here is quite alluring. I would say this does embody a cinnamon cookie and is lovely against the puer base. I was busy and didn’t make a lot of notes on this one, but I would order this in a Lupicia order.

I would say this has the essence of tiramisu. You know it’s there somewhere, but is it just imagination?

Thanks Cameron!

The taste here is fruity with hints of candiness that I really only noticed when I made a fresh second cup. The flavour isn’t specifically passionfruit to me, or ginger, though it’s fine to drink nonetheless.

Thanks for sharing Cameron :)

drank Chestnut by Lupicia

2022 sipdown no. 41

This tastes like candied chestnuts to me because there is a sweet scent and sweetness to the taste. The green base is not my favourite here — it’s almost fishy (this is not the exact correct word, but I can’t come up with something better) in the scent (though not in the taste)? The combination of the candied sweetness and green base is not my favourite. This type of chestnut would probably be delightful against a black base.

Thank you for sharing Cameron!

Their Joyeux Noël is a lovely chestnut black tea!

Thanks for the tip! :)

Freshly steeped this has a lovely scent of pear with hints of cinnamon, akin to a warm apple (pear) crisp coming out of the oven. The pear flavour stays throughout the cup and is really like warm, liquified pear. I get no candy-like flavour whatsoever. A really lovely pear tea. I didn’t try this cold because it was so tasty warm! If I was wanting for a flavoured white or pear tea, I would consider this one for sure.

I love this one! So perfect for fall too.

Courtney

It really is! :)

Kelmishka

This sounds so good!

Courtney

It surprised me! I would definitely consider ordering it. :)

ashmanra

I love it, Ashman finds pear to be floral tasting and he doesn’t like it. It isn’t floral to me. (Shrug)

Cameron B.

I find pear a bit floral in some teas, but I think the little bit of warming spice keeps it at bay in this one.

Bio

I love black tea and this is usually what’s in my mug. I’m also happy to enjoy a cup of green or red rooibos (green preferable to red), herbals, oolongs (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted), whites, and subtly flavoured greens (mango or pineapple, yum!).

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it (Camellia Sinensis Earl Grey Cream is one of my favourites).

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan with an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I usually just pick them out of blends).
