16 Tasting Notes
I’ve been trying for several tastings to figure out if this one is my favorite Earl Grey, but it seems I have run out of the other one. So for now I will call this a very serious contender!
What draws me to this one is the tea, with a bit of lemony zest from the added bergamot. So I’m enjoying it more for the tea than as an Earl Grey, which is unfortunate because it could be more “Earl Greyish” and might seem lacking to some. The tea has a bit of a lightly spicy earthiness to it which I find pairs well with the lemony touch.
Overall the whole thing is a hint on the mellow side, so again perhaps not what some Earl Grey seekers are after. But I really enjoy it.
Now the question is whether to order more of that other one.

Preparation
I’m starting today with a pyramid bag of this, which I picked up with some other brands a couple months back when I decided to see what all this Earl Grey fuss was about (yes, my life was indeed spent living under each and every rock).
Initially of the six I selected, this was my favorite. Then it became less favored. Now I consider it rather highly but am quite frankly unsure what to think overall about all this Earl Grey hullabaloo.
The citrusy bergamot flavor is very forward, teetering just short of being overwhelming. The tea itself is quite good but I find it hard to pick out specific characteristics among all the citrus. I suspect that the tea on it’s own is probably light and citrusy to try and complement the bergamot as opposed to providing depth or contrast.
I definitely like this one. Of the Earl Grey’s I’ve tried I would choose this as the first one a new Earl Grey drinker should sample. But it’s not my current favorite of the ones I’ve tried. Earl Grey is a rather vexing thing for me.

Preparation
This is my current favorite. I only bought some because I loved the flavor of the H&S English Breakfast tea so much and saw that this was their biggest seller. Every time I have some I make yummy sounds, I actually like it that much. So why am I not rating it 100? Because I’m still new to tea and expect to find things better than this. But for now this is, hands-down, the best tea I have ever tasted. Take pity on me for that if you must, but I am loving every minute of it!
Preparation
I am really enjoying this stuff at breakfast. It falls on the side of a strong tea, yet quite mellow. The taste is more earthy than malty yet still delivers a satisfying strong black tea feel. I actually find it fun to drink as it’s just a bit of a surprise, really, and has a lovely taste in my opinion.
Flavors: Earth, Malt
I am not an Earl Grey lover, preferring my bergamot on a Keemun base, but this is my favorite Earl from Harney. You may want to try Diamond Jubilee if you like this one.
Thanks, I was considering another Harney order and will definitely get some of that.
I tend to prefer lighter Earl Greys as well! There’s really a wide range when it comes to the amount of bergamot added.
